If you have a family farm you just have to hold your wedding celebrations in the fields don’t you? That’s exactly what this lovely couple did and boy oh boy did they do it in style.
Robyn and Callum held their wedding on the 7th August 2015 and opted for a church ceremony and tipi reception. They hoped to create a festival atmosphere with food trucks, live music and camping for everyone. This is one of those weddings where you’ll wish you were a guest.
The blooms were jaw droppingly beautiful, think whimsical designs with big blousy coral peonies. My favourite. The gents wore mismatched attire, Robyn donned a beautiful strapless gown while the maids were in blush. Pretty pretty pretty.
Many thanks goes to Amy Lou Photography for sharing these utterly wonderful shots.
THE PROPOSAL | 25th August 2013
THE VISION | Our own little festival at home on the farm.
THE PLANNING PROCESS | We knew right from the start that an outdoor wedding was the only option for us, you can’t live on a farm and not have a party in the fields!! We contacted various companies offering Tipis and Marquees and eventually found the brilliant Tina from The Unique Tent Company. We couldn’t have done it without her. She proved to be the biggest help in planning every tipi detail from layout to marshmallows on sticks. Tina also helped us source our caterers and DJ. We decided on a colourful country vintage feel for the day and so set about acquiring all manner of items, lampshades, jam jars, deer antlers…. the list goes on.
THE VENUE | The Holy Trinity Church, Seghill followed by Tipis and Camping on the family farm, Avenue North Farm, Seaton Sluice.
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Both the daytime and evening dresses were from A J Bridalwear Boutique in Newcastle upon Tyne, what a brilliant place this is, those ladies are like your favourite mad aunts and would bend over backwards for you, I highly recommend them.
The shoes were Brides Design and enhanced by @freckled_betty, a lovely lady I found on Instagram.
Necklace/Earrings – Swarovski.
FINDING THE DRESS | This was easy after I found A J Bridal, I had a few choices on my rail (decisions, decisions), but once I’d tried on my final choice and opened the curtains, me and my friend shared some tears and we knew it was the one. Having that dress moment is a must! No tears or lump in your throat?? Try more on!
GROOM’S ATTIRE | A mix and match from all over: Shoes – ASOS, Trousers – River Island, Shirt – Topman, Waistcoat – Next, Belt – Ted Baker, Buttonhole – Feathers & Fluff.
THE READINGS & MUSIC | Corinthians 13:4.
Robyn entered church to Jackie Wilson – Higher & Higher.
We left to Barry Louis Polisar – All I want is You (The Theme from Juno).
North east cover band JustSO provided the music whilst evening guests arrived.
First Dance: Lovers of the Light – Mumford & Sons.
Then Camden band The Din then played into the night (cue some choice dance moves!).
Our last dance was amazing, everyone piled on the wonky dance floor and ended the night with a very bouncy group hug with us two sandwiched in the middle. Not sure on the song though… bit of a blur!
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | For the bridesmaids we took a gamble, one of those “cross your fingers and pray” decisions to order online from China. Luckily they were fantastic and mother of the bride Sue made any alterations needed and added the sashes.
Flower Girls/Pageboys: All dressed in H&M clothing, with Mother Sue sashes, Converse trainers and dolly shoes.
THE FLOWERS | The flowers were amazing, made up by PureGround Flowers; we had 5 bouquets, buttonholes for mothers/grandmothers and an archway complete with deer antlers!
THE CAKE | The idea for the cake came from Pinterest and was cleverly constructed by the groom’s mum. She did a fantastic job of recreating a picture and making it even better.
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Amy Lou Photography, such an absolutely incredible girl. She fit in to our wedding so well and did a fantastic job capturing the whole vibe of the day. We were only her third wedding at the time but no one would have known, super friendly, very professional and just look at the results!!
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | 40m of home made bunting all fabrics from 1st For Fabrics, several lampshades from various charity shops, home made decorated masons jars filled with fantastic flowers from Pureground.
Table names and guest book made/illustrated by the groom’s cousin (Things of Wonder) and a fort made of straw bales for the kids to play in surrounded by windmills and BIG peony flowers courtesy of Country Baskets.
Evening Guests fed outside in true festival style by 3 pop-up caterers; Monsieur Crepe, Heavenly Manna and a Hog Roast.
THE HONEYMOON | A week in Salisbury, staying in a family owned cottage. No phone signal, just the two of us in the countryside, perfect!
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | A 6.30am walk along the beach for Robyn and her best friend and bridesmaid, an amazing sunrise and perfect waves. Clay pigeon shooting in the morning with the Callum and the groomsmen.
Pie and mash wedding breakfast!
Sunset… wow, all of our guests standing out in the field admiring the most beautiful of sunsets, the perfect vibe.
Callum getting up on stage with his old band for the first time in 6 years and the dance floor going wild!
The final dance, so much love!
Camping – many of our guests stayed the night, we awoke to more beautiful sunshine and the smell of sausage, egg and bacon on the grill.
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Do whatever makes you happy, we found it very liberating ditching some of the traditions and breaking some rules. Remember you can say NO to people, it’s your day!
We also went over budget a bit…. but it was more than justified by how perfect the day was, and anyway, you’re only going to do this once!
Just have fun! Things may go wrong but nothing should ruin your day.
