We’re going all vintage glamour today with WWW readers Rachel and Kieran, who tied the knot on the 31st October 2015. They chose to marry at Victoria Hall in Saltaire which is nearby to them and a place where they have enjoyed frequenting.
I just have to start with the fabulous attire. Rachel chose Jenny Packham‘s ‘Julianne’ which looked stunning accessorised with a feather stole and vintage jewellery. Kieran meanwhile opted for a mod look with a tartan suit and DMs, they both looked amazing.
Red roses, simple décor and scrumptious cakes completed the wonderful celebrations. I have to mention the epic Las Vagas honeymoon too, it sounded a blast.
Thanks so much to Shutter Go Click Photography for sharing these sensational images today.
THE PROPOSAL | On our anniversary we decided to go to York for the day. We were sat outside the Minster when Kieran took from his pocket a bundle of photographs from the year previous. We sat and looked through them together reminiscing of our amazing time together. I started to get up but before I had chance he said ‘wait, there’s something else’ and proceeded to get down on one knee. I could hear his heart beating out of his chest, and as he pulled the beautiful bespoke white gold and ruby engagement ring from his pocket the bells of the Minster began to chime. It really was the most magical moment of my life.
THE VISION | We are not a traditional couple so the thought of having a traditional Church wedding was never really an option. We wanted to do things our way, and keep it simple.
THE PLANNING PROCESS | We had a year to plan the wedding which I thought at first may be challenging, but as we organised all the major things early on we had a massive head start! I think the trick is one thing at a time, and looking for recommendations from friends and family for suppliers.
THE VENUE | We chose Victoria Hall in Saltaire, the one and only venue we decided to look round. We live just down the road and had frequently visited Victoria Hall for vintage fairs, movie nights, craft events etc so we immediately felt comfortable in the venue and most importantly, could imagine our wedding taking place there. It really is a spectacular building and the staff are incredibly helpful and can tailor make a package to suit your requirements and budget. The venue even came with its own wedding planner, Charlotte, who did an incredible job and made sure everything ran smoothly on the day!
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | I opted for the Jenny Packham Julianne dress, with an ostrich feather stole, vintage accessories and a bespoke feather headdress.
FINDING THE DRESS | There were only two boutiques who stocked Jenny Packham in my area, so my mum and I visited The Bridal Boutique in Harrogate. Hayley, the owner at the time (the business has since changed hands) really understood my vision for the day, my style and personality and it was actually her suggestion to try on Julianne. She really went above and beyond in her service and made sure my experience was as special as possible.
GROOM’S ATTIRE | Tailor made mod suit in dark green tartan with a navy shirt and burgundy knitted tie. Shoes were burgundy Dr Marten tasselled loafers. Burgundy braces and a pocket watch with chain to finish.
THE READINGS & MUSIC | I walked down the aisle to Patsy Clines Walking After Midnight, the song which was playing the first time Kieran said ‘I love you’. Every time I listened to it at home I couldn’t help but burst into tears, and I was worried I wouldn’t make it through the ceremony without breaking down! Strangely, on the big day itself, when I heard the first few bars of that song it washed a calm and composed feeling over me. Every time I’ve listened to it since I’ve reverted to crying my eyes out, tears of joy of course! As part of the ceremony our registrar read the lyrics to the classic Johnny Cash song Walk The Line. The words really came to life in her reading and there were a few tears shed!
Our first dance was a surprise for everyone, including us to an extent as we never practised it once! We relived the classic scene from Pulp Fiction featuring Mia Wallace and Vincent Vega in the Jack Rabbit Slims twist contest. Teenage Wedding by Chuck Berry blasted whilst we twisted and jived our way toward each other.
We had a 1950s/60s Rock and pop classics band called The Jailbirds play at our reception, who got everyone up twisting and shouting!
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Had six bridesmaids including my Maid of Honour. I asked them to wear whatever they wanted and be themselves. They all turned up looking absolutely stunning and I couldn’t have been happier.
THE FLOWERS | We kept it simple with a white and red rose and babies breath bouquet. Kieran’s family are all from Lancashire, so they wore red rose button holes and corsages, with my side of the family with white roses for Yorkshire.
THE CAKE | We couldn’t decide on one cake so we treated ourselves to a red velvet cake with a New York cheesecake filling, and a peanut butter chocolate cake called the Elvis cake! Courtesy of The Yummy Yank.
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Ryan Learoyd aka Shutter Go Click was our photographer. He did an outstanding job at capturing the magic of our special day and has become a good friend of ours as he’s such an awesome guy! We can’t recommend his service enough and suggest opting for the wedding book he offers as our bespoke album (complete with Johnny Cash lyrics) really is a beautiful keepsake to share with family and friends.
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | I decided when we booked the venue that I wanted to do all the décor myself. I spent a year collecting vintage table cloths, candlesticks, doilies and various other trinkets to create unique table displays for our guests. As we planned to honeymoon in Las Vegas I bought decks of vintage playing cards actually used in The Luxor casino and used them as name settings for our guests, and a keepsake for them to take home!
THE HONEYMOON | We went to Las Vegas for ten nights and stayed in The Luxor. We went to seven different shows including Diana Ross at The Venetian and Evil Dead The Musical at Planet Hollywood! We can’t wait to go back!
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Half way through the evening Kieran’s cousins and brothers came running into the venue wearing flannel shirts, shades holding booze in brown paper bags leaping around to Straight Outta Compton by NWA!! It was absolutely hilarious and everyone loved it. Apparently they’d been planning it for months!
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Be yourselves, do it your way, enjoy every second. X
