Happy Valentine’s day WWWers. I hope you are feeling loved up and warm this morning and have many romantic plans ahead for the day.
When super lovely photographer Ali Lovegrove got in touch with me to ask if i would feature this Valentine’s day shoot with you all i got uber excited. Ali got together some of her favourite and very awesome wedding suppliers to create a Valentine’s wonderland to inspire.
There are so many elements to even mention them all, with gorgeous dresses, fun balloons, pretty ombre blooms, glitter, chevrons, confetti, sparklers, knitted hats, cute stationery and the most incredible dessert table. There are bound to be more than a few ideas to steal for your own wedding here. Love!
Thanks so much to Ali Lovegrove Photography for sharing her images with us today, here is what she had to say about the shoot;
“Ever since I became a photographer I have looked to styled shoots for inspiration, I love that these shoots can push the boundaries of what could be classed as ‘acceptable’ at a wedding and help couples to stamp their own personalities all over their wedding day without being afraid that it may be going against tradition. For me, a styled shoot is about taking a theme, an idea, a trend or a story, developing it and using it in a way that maybe would be too much for an entire wedding (Harry Potter theme anyone?!) but enough that it can generate ideas for little bits and pieces for your day to make it truly personal.
As a total girly girl and a massive fan of anything to do with hearts and love, Valentine’s Day was a theme I just had to do. It is such a special day to me as it is also my birthday, so I have always been really excited to see the decorations going up in the shops knowing this special day is not far away. With the lack of time I left for myself I took a deep breath and started ‘styling’ the shoot myself, I must add I use the term styling loosely as I am certainly no stylist, nor profess to be one, but when you have such a strong vision sometimes it can be easier to just take a leap of faith and go for it, this is what most of us do when planning an entire wedding so trust your ideas!
I’ve never really been one for trends, I like what I like and if it isn’t in fashion it doesn’t matter much to me, however when I was deciding on the look for the shoot elements also happened to be on trend for 2013 weddings; an abundance of glitter, chevrons are still going strong and ombré is one set to be popular for a while yet so hopefully there are brides to be out there like me who love a bit of sparkle! As the shoot developed it split into three sections; relaxed pastels, glam and sparkly and beautiful bridal. The main aim of the shoot was to give inspiration to couples on how to inject a little Valentine’s theme into their wedding, I also loved hand picking my favourite suppliers to work with and showcase their extraordinary talents. I also wanted to give people ideas that they could do themselves, or give, on Valentines; popcorn and movie night, a dinner date, perfume, flowers and a home cooked meal, just make it personal!
The focal point of the relaxed pastels shoot was the dessert table, featuring a stunning purple heart ombré wedding cake by Darren of No. 82 Cake Studio, as well as cute ideas that can easily be done at home; popcorn, ice cream and strawberries and sweets which were all accented with glittery marshmallows candles and beautiful flower arrangements from Flowers by Suzanne. I adore the B <3 R styling from Blake Lively and Ryan Reynold’s wedding and I just loved the idea of using this to personalise the shoot, so wedding stationer Leah of Golden Apple Designs created two beautiful suites of stationery and paper goods to accessorise the shoot, not to mention the gorgeous custom A <3 L burlap bunting from Emma Bunting. I wanted this side of the shoot to be as girly, feminine and cute as possible so really went to town with the pastels, hearts and glitter. The cute Valentine’s themed hat from Violet’s Retreat just complemented the girly vibe so perfectly. The pastel aqua and white heart print dress by Oh My Honey is beautiful and the perfect outfit for that special evening or would make fantastic bridesmaid dresses!
For the glam and sparkly shoot it was all about tradition with a a big dollop of glitter! I love the idea of the man surprising his lady with a gorgeous bouquet of flowers, a candle lit table, popping the champagne open for dinner and just having a fun night with the person you love. The colour scheme for this shoot was red and pink with accents of black and gold, very traditional yet the clash of the red and pink was something I was keen to shoot just to show that colours that shouldn’t work together will if that is what you want! I love the giant lettering supplied by More Than Words, it really helped to tie the styling together and would make such a fabulous gift for a loved one or signs at your wedding to add that extra personalisation to the day. The ombré flower arrangement and stunning bouquet, both from Flowers by Suzanne, helped to really lift the shoot and tell the story of the couple on Valentine’s Day.
The beautiful bridal element of the shoot showcases a different style of wedding look, if you want to go for a knee length wedding dress then go for it! If you’re having a chilly winter wedding then why not wear a woolly hat?! Both the gorgeous wedding dress by Caroline Chamberlain and the bespoke, handmade hats by Violet’s Retreat, offer something different to the usual wedding day attire. I am a huge balloon fan too so I couldn’t contain my excitement with so many heart balloons and the giant love lettering – the wind shared my enthusiasm by promptly blowing over the arrangement of balloons! The make up for the shoot by Tina Brocklebank was stunning, a perfect mix of relaxed and natural yet glamorous at the same time; the perfect Valentine’s Day make up.
Valentine’s Day isn’t for everyone, but for me, a day dedicated to telling the person that means most to you that you love them is something worth celebrating so I wish all of you a Happy Valentine’s Day and hope that this shoot gives you just a little inspiration for your Valentine, for a special occasion and, hopefully, for your wedding.”
