Shaunagh and Ben’s Trevor Hall wedding in Wales was spectacular! From the unique geodome wedding reception to the beautiful sage green tones, you’ll love every little detail.
I adore the warmth of their day, with personal touches and a lot of fun. Food, wine and live entertainment were their top priorities and it’s great to see WWW wedding supplier Bands For Hire providing one of their bands. I am sure guests had such a brilliant time, especially with the pre and post-wedding events.
Shaunagh and Ben looked amazing in their chosen outfits and I love all the pretty florals too. Just wait and see.
Fox and Bear Photography I can’t thank you enough for sharing with us these stunning images.
We met on Tinder in 2014 and as a surprise on our five year ‘anniversary’, Ben planned a trip to Copenhagen!
He’d secretly booked time off work for me with my manager and didn’t tell me where we were going until we got on the flight. He’d put in so much effort I didn’t consider for one moment that he’d have any other surprises up his sleeve…
On day three of our trip, we headed up to the top of Christiansborg Palace, I was admiring the views over the city when Ben said “what do you think of this view?”, I turned around and he was on one knee with a beautiful vintage, emerald ring. I think he expected me to cry but I was in so much shock I couldn’t stop saying “really!? Are you sure!?”.
We knew from the beginning that we wanted our wedding to be very personal to us and unique.
For me, the most important element was great food and wine and for Ben it was lots of live music and entertainment! Our friends and family are scattered all over the country and world, so we really wanted to have a few days together where everyone could relax and have a great time as one big family.
£25,000, ended up spending £35,000.
We didn’t want to spend this much originally, but having postponed due to covid, we ended up blowing the budget. We are very lucky to have supportive, generous parents who helped us with the extra costs to make sure we could have everything we wanted on our special day.
Originally, we were due to get married in Trevor Church which is walking distance from Trevor Hall. Unfortunately, due to covid restrictions, the church was too small, so we moved to the larger St Collen’s church in Llangollen.
We were disappointed to begin with but it actually worked out perfectly because it meant we could have a choir and have the bells rung as we left church! It was so special and I am really glad that it worked out how it did in the end.
As I said earlier, live music was a must for Ben, so we had a brilliant acoustic singer during champagne and canapes and two fantastic bands on the evening who kept all of our guests up dancing for the whole evening!
Our first dance was to ‘Come and Get Your Love by Redbone’ which you might recognise from the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack.
I really thought I would go for something a bit boho and tried on about 50 dresses before my mam suggested I tried something a bit more classic. As soon as I put my dress on I knew it was the one for me! It was Idony by Ronald Joyce.
The rest of the outfit then really centred around my Jimmy Choo shoes which were a very special gift from my mam and bridesmaid, Ellen. I got changed on the evening into a bespoke dress by Matthew O’Brien and was able to show the dress and shoes off during our first dance.
Both the mother of the bride and mother of the groom also had bespoke dresses and hats from Matthew – he was amazing.
Ben knew he wanted something that fit into the countryside venue and tried on a few different tweed-looking suits. The light blue was a bit different and worked well considering we got married on the hottest day of the year! Ben and the groomsmen rented their suits from Peter Posh in Shrewsbury and the staff were so helpful in getting them all kitted out.
The bridesmaids all wore beautiful sage green dresses from Along Came Eve in Chester.
Trevor Hall, Llangollen.
We visited quite a few venues and as soon as we saw Trevor Hall and met Louise, we knew it was the venue for us! The venue is super unique, you are able to make it completely your own, and Louise is just amazing at what she does.
We hired a geodome to host our reception, which sat behind Trevor Hall, with the most beautiful view of the valley. It was definitely a WOW moment when guests moved from the lawn up to the dome and saw it for the first time.
The styling and décor were all done by us and family/friends. We got everyone involved in doing something, whether it was baking a cake, drying out rose petals for confetti or building stands for signage, there were personal touches everywhere.
I really wanted to have lots of flowers, I just think they tie everything together perfectly – so it was lots of foliage and meadow flowers for us. Wild Floral did the flowers for the venue, but Ben’s aunt, Kath used flowers from her garden to create the posies for the church and a floral arch which were absolutely beautiful!
We made signs from bits of wood we’d kept from renovating our house and I also learned calligraphy and how to digitise it to make some welcome signs and a table plan. I also made anything paper, like place cards, menus, table names and lots of little touches like gift bags for our guests who stayed over using my calligraphy!
Ben’s mum made our wedding cake, because of the postponement, she’d been ‘feeding’ it whisky for almost two years, so it was a delicious boozy fruit cake. Our friend, Bex decorated it for us.
Our photographer was the fabulous Dewi from Fox and Bear! We found Fox and Bear by looking up #trevorhall on Instagram and picking out the photos we loved the most which were credited to them.
Knowing that Dewi knew the venue already gave us peace of mind that we would get some stunning shots and we were over the moon with the end results. We ended up having two engagement shoots with Dewi because of the postponement, and by the end of our wedding, he felt just like a friend, we’d spent so much time together!
Because our wedding was just as the UK came out of lockdown, we had a lovely ‘minimoon’ in Cornwall. We spent a week exploring the coast, cycling, swimming, eating and drinking which is just what we needed after a hectic wedding week. We’re hoping to go to Sri Lanka when the world is a little easier to navigate.
Too many to count!
My dad, his wife, Jill and my siblings, Jordan, Erin and Ethan live in Australia. We’d booked Trevor Hall for a week knowing we’d all get to spend time together before the big day. Sadly, due to the pandemic, they couldn’t make it to our wedding, so we live streamed them in from Brisbane.
We sent them some décor and gifts beforehand to help them feel involved. It was bittersweet really, but seeing how much effort they had put in to decorating their house like our venue, putting together a similar meal, and even Erin even baking a wedding cake was so lovely.
I am a bit obsessed with Strictly Come Dancing, so Ben took us for dance lessons before the wedding, surprising everyone with a dance (including lifts!) was so fun and really memorable for me. It was the perfect way to kick off the evening, the dancefloor was not empty for one minute!!
The best part of the day (other than getting married!), was the speeches. We did not stop laughing or crying, it had been such a long time coming having to wait an extra year that the love and thought that had gone into every single speech made them even more special.
We were lucky enough to have Trevor Hall for a whole week, so had a beautiful meal prepared by our friends Alex and Ellen on the Monday before the wedding for our family and wedding party. The day after our wedding, our friend Becky organised a fantastic Sports Day, my brother-in-law Ritchie fired up the BBQ and my Maid of Honour, Gemma and her fiancé Michael were on cocktail duty.
It was the perfect way to unwind and spend time with our nearest and dearest before they all headed home. It was just so special to get to spend quality time with all of our guests as the day goes by so quickly!
Don’t be discouraged if things don’t go according to plan. We encountered so many obstacles, including a pandemic and a heatwave which meant the dome wasn’t ready to be decorated until midnight the day before the wedding, but it really didn’t matter on the day and all makes a great story eventually!
Take a moment to stand back and take everything in, the day goes by so quickly. Look at all of your nearest and dearest enjoying themselves and knowing how happy they are for you, it is so special.
If you have the option, definitely book your venue for a couple of days so you can spend quality time with the people you love. It’s so hard getting round to talk to everyone on the day, so this time for us was really special.
One thing we wish we’d done was book a videographer, if your budget allows I would definitely get one so you can relive your favourite moments.
