A Beautiful Modern with a Vintage Twist, Pink Wedding

Afternoon :-) You didn’t think i’d go a day without another beautiful wedding to share do you? Hehe!!

Jo and Steve were married in October and held their reception at The Berkeley Square Hotel in Bristol. They wanted a a touch of vintage to their wedding, but with a modern traditional feel. They wanted to keep things simple and focus on having a great time with their loved ones.

Jo wears the most beautiful Justin Alexander number, and i adore her birdcage veil… she is so very chic :-) I also have to mention that cake of cheese… erm wow!!

Thanks so much to the amazing Bristol based wedding photographers, Telbert Photography for sharing their work with us today, here is what they had to say about the day;

“I had a really good feeling about Jo and Steve’s wedding! We got on like a house on fire through our consultations and also had a blast on the engagement shoot. Jo had so many great ideas for the big day. And I was bursting at the seams with the thought of capturing it all for them.

All we needed was the whether to hold out as this was an early October wedding and sure enough we got the hottest October on record. Everything else fell into place from there with Jo’s parents being delightful during the bridal preparations although dad cut it fine by insisting on getting ready at the last minute (to be fair he was last in a long line of females needing to get into the bathroom).

Jo and Steve married in Jo’s local church, which was just as well as her bouquet, was forgotten and she had to be whizzed back up the road in their vintage Jag to retrieve it.

The reception took place at Berkeley Square Hotel off the Clifton Triangle in Bristol and made for an amazing venue with fun quirky furniture and fabulous garden terrace. Steve delivered his speech by the way of a poem that was both the sweetest and funniest speech and didn’t leave a dry eye in the house. All that was left after that was for everyone to get on down and shake a leg and all their guests obliged. A most epic wedding!”

Names…. Jo and Steve

Wedding Date…. 8/10/2011

The Proposal…. It was very romantic. Steve had pre prepared a poem (which is his speciality) he read this after a lovely evening in Bath, Christmas Eve Eve 2010. He also gave Jo the ‘Love Stone’ (A red heart shaped tone with “Marry Me” embossed in white on it) He had previously proposed in Sri Lanka, whilst Jo was travelling in 2010. Jo was travelling in South East Asia and wanted to wait until she returned to the UK. In December it felt right, and we started planning our big day from Jan 2011 after our magical Christmas engagement and began telling our family and friends.

The Vision for the day…. A touch of vintage to celebrate with our loved ones in a relaxed atmosphere. We wanted to keep things simple, yet traditional with both a modern and vintage twist. I knew that I wanted a vintage car, a vintage lace dress, vintage head wear/ jewellery and for the wedding to be during the autumn as I love the colours and the autumnal vibe that it represents. I wanted it to be about us and not about what the wedding market dictated. Steve had a vision of a musical playlist capturing everyones favourite tunes which could be played in chronological order – from 60’s to present day. Therefore everyone would have a bop on the dance floor and enjoy music from their generation. We wanted to choose a venue which reflected our tastes, style, heritage and budget!

The Planning process…. The proposal was on the eve before the eve of Christmas Day. We had a week of festivities and then the planning started in January, 10 months before the big day. We shared our ideas of how we wanted our day to be and started by thinking about venues and where the wedding ceremony should take place. Neither of us were very sure about where we wanted to marry, Church or Civil ceremony. My family had grown up in Stapleton and my Mum was part of the local church. I went to this church as a child. We arranged a meeting with the Reverend and we both agreed his church would be the perfect setting for our ceremony. We fixed the date so we could start planning everything else. We wanted it to be on a Saturday as many guests would be travelling from afar. We wanted to have the opportunity to stay with our family and close friends as long as possible so we looked for a venue close to the church which also had accommodation including a bridal suite. We looked at a few hotels, considered Marquee hire and then we came across the Berkeley Square Hotel – perfect! Quirky, relaxed environment, a great reputation for excellent food and lovely rooms. All the other plans just fell into place and happened quite naturally, though there were time constraints as I didn’t start looking for dresses until March! The months zoomed past.

The Venue… Marriage Ceremony-Holy Trinity Church, Stapleton, Bristol, Reception- The Berkeley Square Hotel , Clifton, Bristol.

The Dress + Accessories….. Justin Alexander Dress. Strapless, Fishtail Vintage Lace with Lace shrug. Veil- bird cage- bought 2nd hand. Earrings and bracelet- John Lewis. Large Hair Clips- something borrowed from a friend. Shoes- Next Bridal Range. Underwear- Bridal range from specialist shop in Keynsham, Bristol.

Finding the dress…. It took about 15+ visits to various shops in the Bristol area. Finally, at Anne Harding, Bristol I found ‘the one’ well, at least I thought it was but it was a size 8 and was the end of a line. The very helpful staff assisted and contacted the designer- they had enough material left to to make me one and it would arrive in enough time for fittings etc.

Groom’s attire… Grooms own ‘Hugo Boss ‘suit in a vintage Blue Grey colour. We purchased matching ties in a very pale pink for all of the Grooms men. Which matched the Maid of honours dress and from the same company. Steve wanted a waist coat but the suit only came in 2 piece , which caused problems. Nothing matched so after plenty of differing advice and wandering through city centres and shopping malls, he finally found a beautifully contrasting one in petrol blue from Next.

The Readings + Music…. Music at the Church- led by harp and flute duo- TOPAZ. Reception- Music by The Horizontals, Evening- The Horizontals followed a play list created by us with a chronological order of music from 60’s through to the Noughties and present day. Readings: Songs of Solomon Verse 14, Extract from a Native American Wedding, I carry your heart with me by E cummings, Also, Steves Step Father read a personal prayer during the service.

Beautiful bridesmaids….. Ellie- Jo’s Sister- Maid of Honour, Maisie- Steve’s daughter, Eliza- Steve’s daughter.

The Flowers… Vintage coloured Roses in pinks, creams and beige. Amazing flowers and colours they were perfect.

Jo’s bouquets was a ball shaped and the bridesmaids were hand

The Cake… We had a Wedding Cheese Cake- absolutely beautiful. We both love our cheese, and we knew our guests would love it. Also, we had Guinness and chocolate cup cakes- Jo had a friend from work make them as a gift to us. They were scrummy!

Your Photographer…. Telbert James…amazing detailed photographs, captured the moment beautifully. Telbert is a talented photographer and added fun and a sense of calmness to our day. He is a very knowledgeable about weddings and offered us lots of advise about the day and of course how to get the best from photographs’. We would highly recommend him.

The Honeymoon…. The beautiful lagoon resort Olu Deniz, Turkey.

Memorable moments… Being with my proud dad in the church, with my three Bridesmaids, seeing all the guests for the 1st time and hearing the lovely flute and harp, walking up and seeing Steve at the top! Saying Mrs Newman! Steve’s speech. It was a true comedy moment!

Advice for other couples… Get the dress as soon as possible. Follow your own ideas-it will work out on the day- visualise things that you would like- if you can see it, make it happen, even if it seems a bit different. People tried to tell us that the harp and flute would not work in the church- it so did!
