There is something so very special about a low key, intimate and simple wedding. It really is just all about the love isn’t it?
Alice and Joseph tied the knot on the 3rd October 2015 in a gorgeous outdoor ceremony at Yeoldon House in Devon. Their priority was for their loved ones to have a great time, an ethos which I really have to say I love.
Alice looked utterly gorgeous in her vintage 1930s gown and later changed into a stunning blue opera coat for the evening. Joseph’s next suit was accessorised perfectly with a trilby hat plus their sweet dog Tia was in attendance too. So lovely.
Thanks so much to Heart Full of Tea for sharing these really wonderful photographs.
THE PROPOSAL | Jo runs his own Bell Tent company and this particular time we were on holiday camping right by the sea and he proposed at sunset overlooking the sea in cornwall. It was just very us, nothing fancy but just surrounded by beautiful landscape.
THE VISION | Don’t think we really had one, just to ensure everyone had a great time.
THE PLANNING PROCESS | Made it was very up as we went along to be honest!
THE VENUE | Yeoldon House Hotel, Devon. We can walk to our house from this venue and we have spent many an afternoon having a beer here so it made sense for us to get married here. It sits overlooking the bay and it is very serene in all weathers!
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | A retro 1930s dress, accessories made and styled by brides mother who has previously worked in Theatre Production. My mum made the wonderful blue opera coat, just so I could mix up my outfits for the evening reception.
FINDING THE DRESS | A local retro boutique – 1st one I tried on, couldn’t believe my luck, plus it didn’t need any adjustments. It was meant to be! I found both sets of shoes in charity shops as well. It was thankfully a really easy process and everything just seemed to go together with very little stress.
GROOM’S ATTIRE | Jo wore a blue suit from Next and a trilby hat. Emma, our photographer, remarked how we looked a little like Bonnie and Clyde on the evening! It was certainly a good knees up come the evening!
THE READINGS & MUSIC | Our first reading was from Grease ‘We Go Together’ read by Jo’s sister and we also had his other sister sing La Vie On Rose in-between the ceremony. It was such a beautiful sunny day and listening to such a romantic French song over looking the bay was just glorious.
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Anna who is my best friend and we had Tia our dog there all day with us too. She wore a makeshift bridesmaid dress!
THE FLOWERS | I just asked the florist for a blue/purple theme that was fresh and quite rustic. We weren’t too fussy!
THE CAKE | One of my friends made the amazing ‘Alice in Wonderland’ cake, it was really great having details of the day put together by friends and family. That’s what our focus was mainly. We just wanted everyone to have a good time and not worry too much about the décor, the venue was a beautiful enough setting for us.
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | We chose Emma from HEART FULL OF TEA for her documentary style and how much we love her passion towards making our day about exactly what we wanted. We have wonderful photographs to last us a lifetime over, I am so glad she encouraged us to come away from our guests too and have some quiet time to ourselves with a shoot around the beautiful gardens at Yeoldon.
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Our table settings and favours were hand made and painted by my mother, we didn’t feel we needed to go overboard on the details.
THE HONEYMOON | We went for a week away in a cottage in Cornwall, taking Tia our dog as well!
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | All of it was just wonderful, the weather was particularly amazing as it allowed us to get married outside on the lawn, this was such a luxury for October in England.
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Do what you want don’t get taken in by the wedding must haves and definitely save some money to have live music. It really does add to the evening celebrations, we are so glad we hired a local band. They were a four-piece fiddle-fronted, high-energy, celtic rock band and were just amazing!!!
