I really love the fresh feeling of Izzy and Dan’s stylish rustic barn wedding. Just you wait and see folks! They were married on the 29th August 2019 at Clock Barn in Hampshire and after viewing it they fell for the setting right away, it’s no wonder why. The magical barns looked amazing and were enhanced by Izzy and Dan with simple and considered decor; elegant signs, hanging flowers, fabric and rustic wooden details. Wow.
The flowers were so pretty with blush pink used inbetween foliage and greenery, which also matched perfectly with the bridesmaid dresses. Talking of outfits, Izzy looked beautiful in Juniper by Rebecca Ingram and I really adore her ponytail hair do. Meanwhile Dan coordinated yet stood out from his groomsmen in a grey jacket and double-breasted waistcoat with pink tie, very dapper.
Mia Photography, I cannot thank you enough for sharing with us these sensation images of a very special wedding celebration.
We got engaged on 14th February 2018 when we were skiing in Lake Tahoe, California with my (Izzy’s) family. Skiing has been something I have always loved to do so I couldn’t think of a more perfect location for the proposal!
On one of the chairlifts to the top of the mountain Dan asked me if I could wait at the top with him while he sorted out his gloves. I was a bit confused but said ok. When we got off the lift he told my family they could ski on ahead, in fact he insisted they did, so much so that my mum thought he must be feeling unwell. With his snowboard still on, Dan knelt down, started rummaging through his bag and that was when he popped the question. Of course I said yes! We probably got down the mountain the fastest we ever had because we were so excited to share the news!
We both agreed that we wanted a laid back, rustic wedding where all of our guests could relax, eat great food and just enjoy themselves!
The Planning Process
We both found the planning process relatively easy, mostly thanks to the amazing team at Clock Barn who were so quick to reply to any questions we had and let us visit the venue a number of times. When deciding on a florist and photographer we decided to hire people who had worked at the venue before, which made our lives so much easier as between them they had way more knowledge than we did! Having 18 months to plan the wedding definitely helped too, as we were able to spread it all out across this time and we never felt there was too much to do at once.
After getting back from California we already knew that we would like to get married in a barn as it fitted the type of day we had in mind. We were in the taxi on the way back from the airport and everyone else was asleep so I googled ‘Barn wedding venues in Hampshire’. Clock Barn was the first to come up and I fell in love with it as soon as I clicked on the website. We booked a viewing for the following weekend and it did not disappoint! We confirmed our date that afternoon and didn’t need to view any other venues. The barn inside was so beautiful we felt we didn’t need to add too many additional decorations, and the staff made us feel so comfortable throughout the planning process and on the day itself.
Your Outfits & Accessories
Izzy – My dress was Juniper by Rebecca Ingram and I got it from Romsey Bridal Boutique. I had seen the dress online before I went in and I just knew it would be the one for me. The team at Romsey Bridal were great and made me try on other dresses first but as soon as I tried mine on it confirmed what I thought. It was perfectly simple but still stunning and I also got a hair vine rather than a veil to complete the look.
Dan – With my suit choice I wanted to go something special that made me stand out from my groomsmen but yet linked us all together at the same time. To do this I decided to steer away from your usual style suit and get a split colour option consisting of a greyish blue jacket and double-breasted waistcoat with navy trousers like my groomsmen. The small touch of the light pink tie and pocket square set completed the outfit and matched the bridesmaid’s dresses perfectly.
For my hair I knew I wanted to go for something a little different and, having purchased the hair vine instead of a veil, decided I wanted a braided up do. I was lucky enough that one of my friends is amazing at hair so she was able to do mine and the bridesmaids’ hair the morning of the wedding, before having to get ready herself! I absolutely loved the finished look, and really felt like I was channelling my inner Khaleesi.
The bridesmaids and I all had our make up done by the amazing Julie (Julie Ellen Beauty), who ensured everyone’s make up complimented each other, while still sticking to each person’s make up style.
Dan made the cake himself, he has been baking for about a year and a half and the cakes he makes not only look amazing, but taste delicious too! We decided to keep the decoration simple and elegant with a semi-naked three-tiered cake with summer fruit fillings. A few flowers provided by our amazing florist added the final touches giving the cake that rustic look. The cake was definitely one of the most talked about parts of the wedding and was even mentioned in three of our four speeches!
The Readings & Music
My (Izzy’s) cousin did a beautiful reading during the ceremony and she read it so well that everyone thought she had also written it herself. It was the perfect way to start off our ceremony. We also had four speeches after the wedding breakfast and we think they were four of the best speeches we have heard (although slightly biased). Each one was the perfect balance of hilarious and sentimental, and my dad’s even included giant photo props.
For our reception we had both a band and a DJ (Band – The vibes, DJ – Matt Budnyj), who worked together perfectly to keep everyone on the dance floor all night. Finishing off the night with the band performing Mr Brightside while almost all of our guests were on the dance floor will be something that will stay with us forever.
Our beautiful flowers were by Garden Inn, based in Stockbridge. We were both slightly clueless when it came to flowers but Jane somehow managed to create our vision perfectly, including the perfect balance of flowers and foliage. She even managed to exactly match the colour of the bridesmaid dresses.
All of our amazing photos were captured by Mia Hooper. When it came to choosing our photographer we were keen to go with someone who has had experience with barn weddings and luckily for us Mia had shot at Clock Barn many times before so it was a very easy decision to make after seeing her work online. She made us feel so comfortable throughout the day from start to finish. We’re so pleased with the pictures we’ve seen so far and can’t show all our friends and family the finished photo album.
Dan had five groomsmen, including his best man, and they wore navy suits from Moss Bros to compliment Dan’s perfectly.
I had four bridesmaids for the wedding, my cousin, future sister-in-law and two of my best friends. Sorting dresses for all of them proved slightly difficult with one living in Manchester, and another in California but eventually one of my friends found their beautiful nude-pink dresses from ASOS.
Our videographer was Steve from Video4aday, and he was so good that hardly any of our guests even realised we had one! We have only seen our trailer video so far but it is beautiful and we cannot wait to see the full video!
The Details & Décor
The amazing Laura from Lulabee made our signs and stationery for the wedding. We decided to name our tables after the years we have been together and she put together beautiful frames with a picture of us from that year to go on each of the tables. She also made our pallet timeline, welcome sign and a ladder of love display.
We will be going on our honeymoon to Bali in April next year and we cannot wait!
Advice For Other Couples
The best advice we can give other couples is to make the most of every moment, soak it in as it comes and enjoy it because before you know it the day has flown.
