We’re feeling happy today thanks to this relaxed, fun and friendly wedding aptly named HOWELLFEST. Why? Because of the radiant smiles all day, the true love captured just magnificently by Albatross and Mariner plus the superb style.
WWW readers Tim and Lou were hitched on the 29th July 2017 at New Barn Farm on the Isle of Wight. Their vision was a laid back, music filled festival inspired day. Having met at the Isle of Wight Festival, they used some really lovely touches as a nod to their meeting. Complete with wellies filled with blooms, festival table names and lanyard programmes for the guests, such fun! In true festival style the heavens opened and there was rain all day. But it certainly didn’t dampen any spirits, in fact those brollie portraits are some of my fave too.
Lou looked effortlessly beautiful in a lace split gown by WWW faves Grace Loves Lace. Isn’t it just the most stunning dress? Tim and the boys looked dapper in check jackets, trousers and tan shoes. What style! Enjoy all the little moments and their gorgeous story below.
THE PROPOSAL | Tim managed to get all my closest friends and family on the pier where we had our first date, 7 years to the day. I had been told by my Mum that we were meeting friends for dinner in a restaurant near the pier. Meanwhile Tim had spread all of our family and friends along the pier looking out to sea and each were holding a flower.
Mum and I had arrived early so she said we should walk to the pier to waste time. As I walked along the pier, Tim had also arranged one of our friends to play the Ukulele playing one of our favourite songs as I walked down the pier. By this point I had twigged something was about to happen. I was then given my flowers by each group along the pier until I had a bouquet at the end. Tim was then dressed up at the end and he had our dog Maisy carry the engagement ring on her collar. He then proposed. It was a pretty special moment!
THE VISION | We met at the Isle of Wight festival so we wanted to recreate the weekend we met. We wanted lots of music, a laid back vibe, festival accessories, headbands and headdresses and we envisaged colour and fun.
THE PLANNING PROCESS | It was two years after the engagement so we had plenty of time. We organised the venue and church first. Then meticulously tested caterers that would work with the festival theme. Our vision for the décor was quite ambition especially as we would be doing it all ourselves so we gradually found our props and ordered our decoration.
Due to the length of time we had, the process was fun and our vision was constantly refined. We are lucky enough to have a graphic designer in the family so the invites and information on the day was all designed with the festival theme in mind.
BUDGET | £11000. We did a lot ourselves and pulled a lot of favours from all our talented friends and family. We couldn’t have done it without them.
THE VENUE | New Barn Farm Calbourne , Isle of Wight. The building is a Grade 2 listed barn with exposed Oak beams and had extensive lawns, which were exclusively ours for the day.
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Dress – Grace Loves Lace
Headpiece – Ivy & Pearl
Jewellery – Little Joy
FINDING THE DRESS | Grace Loves Lace is an amazing designer based in Australia, I never imagined I would ever of got the dress I dreamt of for this reason, but they were travelling to London for their concierge, and it was fate I managed to book an appointment with them!
It was a truly magical experience and I just knew when I saw it that was the dress.
GROOM’S ATTIRE | All the grooms suits were Moss Bros, chinos from NEXT, shoes from ASOS and RED socks :)
THE READINGS & MUSIC | The music was a no brainer, all my life the song I always visualised walking down the aisle to was ‘Somewhere over the rainbow’ by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. This was same music Tim had played at our proposal.
The song leading us out was our favourite Fleetwood Mac song live…. ‘Everywhere’.
We had two beautiful readings, one from Auntie Chris, and a reading from my beautiful bridesmaid Charlotte Tulloch ‘Love is like owning a dog’….. For anyone who knows us knows how much we are dog lovers so this was simply genius.
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Maid of honour -Lauren
Bridesmaids – Charlotte, Becky, Sophie, Jenny, Tracey.
The dress were also a work from my creative friend Gemma Squibb, so talented and we couldn’t have been happier with how my girls looked, so beautiful.
THE FLOWERS | Flowers by Nic were the team behind the elegant flowers. They were so lovely I knew from day one of planning our wedding I would choose them.
THE CAKE | Tim’s mum! She supplied a 4 tier naked cake, which was absolutely yummy.
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Albatross & Mariner wedding photography. Nathan manages to capture the magic of the day and making us feel totally at ease. His photography is so natural and candid, which means the photos depict the magic of the day. We are over the moon with our photos, his professionalism before, during and after the day is impeccable.
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | We went for a festival theme as we met at the Isle of Wight festival, we love our music so it just seemed it was meant to be that way. Helium balloons created height and colour to tables. The tables had wellies filled with flowers. The table names were IOW Festival stage and tent names. Each guest was given a lanyard programme like you would get at a festival and the girls were given flower head dresses. We had music all day and night. We had festoon lighting at night with hay bales to sit on.
THE HONEYMOON | We have planned a magical Christmas and new year, our first white Christmas in Banff, Canada snowboarding…. before flying to Costa Rica for some memorable experiences trekking and Scuba diving.
We had a snowboarding lesson, so it could be a very interesting trip!
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Walking down the aisle and the look on our faces, it was just the happiest we had ever been in our lives.
Seeing the look on my Dad’s face when he saw me in my dress.
Both crowd surfing for the first time ever!!
It raining all day in true festival fashion.
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Just enjoy every moment, the day does (sad to say it) go so quickly, take a moment in the day with each other to stand back and see how everyone is there to celebrate your day, it was the most incredible moment watching everyone have a great time with smiles on their faces, drink in their hands dancing away to the best music!
