Sixpence Wedding Photos ~ In The Hotseat

Afternoon peeps, if you have yet to book your wedding photographer then this one is for you.

I have the pleasure of getting to know and view some of the work of the brilliant London based, Paul from Sixpence Wedding Photos. Whose work is classic and informal, which you will treasure for years to come. Lets get started shall we?

{w} Hi Paul, could you firstly tell {www} readers a little bit about you?

My name is Paul Tanner, Tanner being the old name for a sixpence in old money and the name my father and I chose when we started working and exhibiting together in the ‘90s. I’m 36 years old, born in London, where I’ve always lived. I love it, the best city in the world and of course it has the most spectacular venues for weddings. I have a fine art degree and a professional photography qualification from the London School of Printing. I have been a professional photographer since 1999, and I have shot for many different clients in all manner of locations. I find this experience equips me perfectly when photographing weddings, enabling me to capture everything and respond to the candid and fleeting moments that make up the day.

{w} What do you love/dislike about your job?

I love the atmosphere on wedding days, everyone’s smiling. There’s a nervous energy especially around the couple and the wedding party, bestman, parents etc that I find really exhilarating and inspires me to convey that in my photos. To capture the day in it’s entirety. Making photos that you can look back at again and again. I think the only thing I dislike about my job is the bad name given to us photographers by paparzzi snappers. Some of the things they do are frankly despicable and unfortunately sometimes we get tarred with the same brush.

{w} How did you get into photography and into the wedding industry?

I have my dad to blame for this, he is a great amateur photographer and so I was always using his cameras when I was growing up. He taught me how to develop film and print in a darkroom (our bathroom). I wrote to the local newspaper back in 1998 and started an apprenticeship with their photographer. I have and still do photograph for many different clients and weddings was a natural choice for me about 7 years ago. I love photographing people and what better time to do that when they are looking their best and really enjoying themselves?

{w} What do you aim to achieve for your clients?

I aim to give them a complete record of their day. A set of photographs that will provide something new each time they look at them. Wedding days are a real frenzy for the couple getting married and can go by in a flash, I like to think that my photographs will provide a perfect accompaniment to their memories, enabling them to relive it each time they look at them.

{w} What style is your work?

I would say my work is very informal, some call it a reportage style. I like to be slightly removed from the crowd so as to photograph them unobtrusively, getting the most natural pictures I can. I always offer to do the more formal shots too as I think these can be great images and I like to keep these as natural as I can so not too much posing. If the people are relaxed and not bossed around by the photographer too much then this comes across in the shots.

{w} Could you tell us some information about your packages/prices?

I offer a one-stop package which really gives you everything you could want for a complete record of your day, including three books, a private online gallery and a ready to print CD of all your wedding photos in colour and B&W with 8 hours of coverage. All this for only £1750. But if this is out of budget or you require a less complete package then I also offer the chance to customise your photography with a basic 3 hour package with private online gallery for £650 which you can add to with prints and CDs etc as you require.

{w} Do you have any tips for couples in selecting their wedding photographer?

Always meet with the photographer first to look over their work with them. I always meet up with my potential clients at their home first and leave them to make up their mind in their own time, with absolutely no obligation to hire me.

{w} How can we get in touch with you?

There are several ways to contact me. You can call me at anytime on 07946 548 559, or email me at [email protected] or visit my website www.sixpenceweddingphotos.co.uk and use the contact form. I look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks so much Paul! Do go and visit Paul’s website and if you make an enquiry with him please do mention {www} :-) XOXO Lou
