Welcome to a new week here at Whimsical Wonderland Weddings and a fresh schedule of gorgeous wedding content is winging it’s way to you. Yippee. To begin let me share this utterly beautiful outdoor wedding set in the West Highlands of Scotland.
Jenna and Byron were married on Monday 18th May 2015 on the beach at Camusdarach. The couple envisioned a rustic and relaxed celebration and hosted their delightful party in a pretty marquee. There were lots of helping hands, who crafted the archway, bunting, cakes and centrepieces. It looked just stunning.
Jenna chose to wear a lace Maggie Sottero number with loose curls in her hair, while Byron looked very dapper head to toe in Next.
Huge thanks goes to the fabulous Kat Hill for sharing these dreamy photographs with us.
THE PROPOSAL | At the brides favourite place in Scotland on holiday. Byron even arranged for my best friend to travel the 8 hour journey to surprise and celebrate with us.
THE VISION | Beach, rustic and relaxed.
THE PLANNING PROCESS | Simple and effective… lots of DIY (being a wedding photographer myself I knew exactly what I did and didn’t want).
BUDGET | Around £10,000.
THE VENUE | Camusdarach Beach, Arisaig, West Highlands of Scotland.
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Maggie Sottero.
FINDING THE DRESS | I’m not a girly or dressy person but when I tried on one dress that I quite liked my Mum said “you have to buy that dress” so I did, it was as simple as that. I never fell in love completely with my dress until my actual wedding day and at that point I thought it was perfect!
GROOM’S ATTIRE | Suit, belt and shoes all from Next. Matched with a cravat that Byron already had.
THE READINGS & MUSIC | The registrar actually forgot to introduce the reading so we ended up missing that part but we had a Bag Piper to welcome guests down onto the beach and play after the ceremony.
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | They wore matching dresses from Marks and Spencer which could be worn different ways.
THE FLOWERS | Bridesmaids had pure gypsophila with hessian ties. Bride had a mixture of flowers with a neutral/rustic feel. Again with hessian tie. Groomsmen had Scottish thistles.
THE CAKE | We had two cakes one “naked” cake made by the bride’s Mum and a second fruit cake made by the Groom’s Grandma.
Cake toppers were made by Carly Dennison.
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Being a wedding photographer myself it was always going to be a hard choice! I am part of a small group of female photographers who support each other and I knew I wanted to have someone I knew and felt comfortable with. Kat’s style was perfect for our wedding, she was like one of the family! The lovely Karen Flower (also part of the group) also came along to second shoot and the collection of photographs they both produced summed our wedding up perfectly! We couldn’t have asked for more.
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Beach ceremony decorated with an archway made by the Groomsmen! Marquee reception with handmade bunting, wood centrepieces, tea lights and jam jars! Lots of outdoor games to play for both the children and adults!
THE HONEYMOON | 3 Weeks touring Australia in a camper van!
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Walking through the sand dunes hand in hand with my Dad and seeing the beautiful view, all our guests and Byron waiting at the top of the aisle.
Stepping back and seeing guests laughing, talking and playing rounders!
Watching the sunset on the beach…. And all the groomsmen going swimming in the freezing sea!
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Take a moment just to step back and stand together and take everything in, even if it’s just for 5 minutes.
Make time for photographs…. I know they can be time consuming but that’s your memories and after the day is over it’s what you will have to look back on.
