It’s December! Woohoo! Time for all things festive and what better way to kick things off than with this seriously beautiful and ultra stylish Christmas wedding ideas editorial shoot. I for sure am in the Christmas mood after indulging in these dreamy images by Dhw Photography. Think fairy lights, seasonal flower arrangements, Christmas desserts, on trend attire and pretty stationery.
There was a striking moon gate flower arch for the ceremony set up which really looked incredible, plus outside a large wreath was used as an alternative photobooth backdrop. Genius. Also keep an eye out for wonderful signage, a very pretty hair style and sensational styling. Wow!
Rustic Christmas Wedding Ideas
We decided to style a Christmas wedding shoot with an alternative colour palette to the usual red and green. We included some gold highlights for a festive feel and based our wedding around natural materials such as wood, pottery, flowers and foliage, wool and fruit, this gave it a textural and rustic feel whilst the contrast between the cool blues and the deep warm red and bright orange kept it contemporary and fresh.
The bouquet was a large boho style bouquet with deep blue delphiniums and light blue thistles with the grey blue eucalyptus, this contrasted with the orange roses and dahlias, dark red roses and amaranthus. We hand dyed the haboutai silk ribbon ourselves to compliment the bridesmaid dresses.
For the bridesmaids we went for 3 different styles to demonstrate options available as an alternative to a traditional bridesmaid posy.
We did a foliage only bouquet with dried leek flower heads and twisted willow, a large willow hoop with a small floral posy and a mini willow hoop which would be perfect for a flower girl or child bridesmaid.
We went for quite informal boho style dresses to fit with the rustic barn style venue. We chose cool blue dresses for the bridesmaids, to pick up the cooler tones in the shoot and add extra contrast to the warmer shades.
The moongate arch was the main feature of the ceremony space, covered in a rustic and wild style with conifer and eucalyptus. Fairy lights and a focal area of deep red and orange flowers and berries added interest and colour. A gorgeous handwoven wall hanging was hung in the centre.
The table featured lots of flowers, fruit such as grapefruit, Clementines, figs and also some walnuts, mini gourds and crabapples. There were mince pies, a Christmas pudding and the gorgeous wedding cake centrepiece to create a luxurious festive feast style banquet table. We sculpted a trailing foliage garland from the beams onto the table which then ran the centre of the table and onto the floor where we had a collection of textiles and candles for a warm and cosy decorative feel.
Outside we created a large festive wreath as an alternative to a photo booth, with fur rugs, wool shawls and the willow sculpted deer.
The aisle for the ceremony was adorned with glass churns of dried flowers, seed heads, branches and twisted willow. This helped create a really wintry feel and we added some tiny fairy lights for a bit of Christmas sparkle.
We involved lots of fabulous local suppliers who all shared our vision for a warm and wintry Christmas inspired wedding shoot. We had a great time getting festive and we hope our images inspire brides considering a December wedding that you can use elements of a traditional Xmas whilst still styling a very unique and personal wedding.
