We’re beating hump day today with this glorious country barn celebration, which is not only filled to the very brim with love, but style, relaxed vibes and so much fun too.
Jenny and Dave plumped for a summer wedding and booked August 27th 2017 for their rustic nuptials. Their chosen venue was Chapel Barn in and the surrounding countryside, not to mention the characterful barns really looked wonderful. Their day was very much a group effort from their nearest and dearest too, with home grown blooms, hand stitched bunting and a floral cake. I really do love the special feeling home made weddings bring to the table, what a gorgeous day!
Touches of pink featured in the rose bouquets, flower crown, Dave’s tie and the bridesmaids’ sweet skirts. I haven’t even mentioned Jenny’s stunning 1970s original vintage wedding dress yet ether. Didn’t the whole wedding party look so fabulous?
On hand to capture every little moment was Olegs Samsonovs Photography whose images here are really sublime. Thanks so much for sharing them with us.
THE PROPOSAL | Christmas day 2016… under a huge Christmas tree in London.
THE VISION | A home-made, fun, informal affair, in beautiful countryside on a perfect sunny day.
THE PLANNING PROCESS | Rather chaotic! Family and friends all mucking in together.
THE VENUE | Chapel Barn Bolney.
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Dress: a one off from Brighton Vintage Wedding Dresses. Hair flowers were rosemary and purple wax flowers made by Go Botanica florist. Shoes gold sandals from Office. Pearls were my grandmothers.
FINDING THE DRESS | Brighton Vintage. It was the second place I’d visited. I knew I wanted something floaty and a bit 70s.
GROOM’S ATTIRE | Green tweed jacket and waistcoat, brown chinos and brown shoes all from Moss Bros.
THE READINGS & MUSIC | Walk in song – Walk on the Wild Side by Lou Reed, during the signing of the register – Stevie Wonder, For Once in my Life and walking out to Aretha Franklin, Respect.
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Caitlin and Hannah (maids of honour) Ella, Scarlett and Jade bridesmaids. Tops were from H&M, skirts online store Chicwish and shoes were from Accessorize. Flower girls Jess, Rosie and Isabella: dresses and shoes from Monsoon.
THE FLOWERS | Bridal bouquet and button holes from Go Botanica were piano roses and eucalyptus. The bridesmaid’s flowers were spray roses also from Go Botanica. Flowers for tables and decorations were home-grown corn flowers and sunflowers.
THE CAKE | Made by our amazing friends Scarlett and Chris. Four tiers of chocolate, white choc and raspberry, lemon drizzle and fruit cake. Decorated with sugar versions of our flowers – sunflowers, cornflowers and piano roses.
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Oleg and Rita Samsonovs. Really relaxed, beautiful photos, that captured the fun and intimacy of the day.
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | We made most of the decorations ourselves and it was country fete style with long wooden benches and trestle tables, with blue and white checked table runners and bunting made by my auntie. Flowers were homegrown corn flowers and sunflowers. The food was a buffet by the garden chef, really wholesome and delicious but with clever, colourful twists. In the evening we had a ceilidh band with live music and everybody dancing.
THE HONEYMOON | A short break to Paleohora in southern Crete straight after the wedding and then a long break to Peru to trek Machu Picchu over Christmas and new year.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Walking in and seeing Dave and all our friends and family there. The speeches. Everyone’s hilarious attempts at ceilidh dancing.
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Try to slow down and enjoy every moment, it goes so quickly. The next day we just wanted to do it all over again!
