This beautiful barn wedding really does have it all; striking florals, incredible decorations and a very stylish and loved up couple. Yay! Let me introduce you to WWW readers James and Ashleigh who were hitched on the 8th September 2018 at Godwick Great Barn in Norfolk. Their vision for the day was rustic, warm and botanical, which was achieved in spades. The barn venue was really rustic and touches such as the semi naked cake with log stand really enhanced this. Then they added a lot of greenery and foliage to create a botanical feel, which really made great impact. For warmth, fun lighting added atmosphere and cosy Autumn vibes.
There was also a lot of style, the groom and groomsmen outfits really looked so cool, I love the contrast of their attire too. Ashleigh’s dress, with long sleeves and train really was beautiful on her. I just adore the lace edge veil she chose too. The bridesmaids also looked amazing in pretty dove grey dresses complete with greenery flower crowns. Perfectly bohemian.
Huge thanks goes to Lorna Newman Wedding Photography for sharing these epic images with us, so lovely. There is so much to be inspired by today folks.
After visiting Greece every year we decided to take our best friends with us, me not knowing it was for a very special occasion that involved a lot of planning.
We had hired mopeds for the holiday to hop to different places and found a beautiful village where you could hire a private boat and visit the turtle island. As we were enjoying a few drinks on the boat and soaking up the sun James had put one of my favourite songs on by Coldplay – Everglow, I turned around to him to say “Oh I love this song!” and to my surprise there he was on one knee (very tearful) with a beautiful ring! It was a moment I will never forget and Greece holds a very special place in our hearts.
My vision was very much rustic, warm with a botanical theme. I wanted lots of greens and whites, very clean and bright!
The Planning Process
It’s very hard to know where to start with planning a wedding but we both had the same idea on where we would like to get married and a barn was the perfect place! We knew we wanted to treat our wedding as a whole weekend celebration. I came across Godwick Great Barn on Instagram, the photos just caught my eye and it looked like it ticked all the boxes. We booked to view the venue and fell in love with it immediately. From then, Godwick were very helpful and recommended a huge list of suppliers that they use on a regular basis, all 5 star rating. Everything then seems to flow and you put your trust in the professionals.
Godwick Great Barn
A beautiful old barn that is so picturesque. What sold us more was the house you can stay in for the weekend with all of your loved ones.
Your Outfits & Accessories
Bride’s dress – Lillian West from Honeys Bridal Boutique in St Ives, Huntingdon.
I always knew exactly what type of dress I wanted, it just took a few different styles to get it right. I went for a long sleeved lace chiffon dress. It was so comfortable and I really didn’t want to take it off.
Groom’s suit- Twisted Tailor ASOS wedding range.
James changed his mind a few times, but he knew he wanted to wear something different to the groomsmen. We went to a number of suit shops but couldn’t find ‘the one’ until we just happened to look at Asos and found the perfect suit for him. He went for a 3-piece suit – white shirt, a chequered waistcoat, navy trousers and a cream jacket. I also bought him a gold chain to go with his waistcoat which looked lovely.
Being a hairdresser myself I was quite lucky to have a good set of connections around me. I knew what I wanted for my hair and I wanted my makeup to be natural as I don’t wear a lot of makeup on a daily basis.
Hair – Helen Green
Make up – Hayley Bristow
Bridesmaids dresses were from Dorothy Perkins.
I knew the colour theme I wanted was a dove grey from the beginning and I also wanted it to flow with the flowers they were having – luckily the girls loved it too and they looked stunning!
Swaffam and Fakenham Florist
These girls are so amazingly talented and I would recommend them 1000 times over. Absolutely stunning flowers, they were better than I ever expected them to be and brought tears to my eyes. Everyone commented on them on the day and they really were one of the highlights.
The Readings & Music
Myself and James luckily have the same taste in music. We wanted the whole feel of the wedding to be warm and relaxed.
Bridal entrance – Stand By Me by Bootstraps Registrar music – re:stacks – Bon Iver
BloodBank – Bon Iver
First Dance – Everyglow – Coldplay (the song James proposed to me with)

We were absolutely blown away by our wedding photos, brings back all the lovely memories. We viewed our sneak peek on our honeymoon and I literally had tears in my eyes.
We are so thrilled with our photos and the work that Lorna did for us. She absolutely worked her socks off and got all the important shots we wanted. I can’t recommend her enough. She made us feel so comfortable and relaxed.
As James was wearing something different to the guys, we still wanted it to all flow. We found the groomsmen’s suits from the Asos wedding range and they were perfect! They all wore a 3-piece dark navy suit and they all looked dapper!
The Details & Décor
Details meant a lot to me. I was one of those brides that spent a lot of time on Pinterest. We provided a lot of personal touches for our guests; personalised hangover kits, sambuca shot glasses as a favour, blankets to keep warm, personalised picture polaroid name cards. The guests loved them!
Over the 2 years we were planning our wedding I collected a lot of decorations. We hired a lot of beautiful props from Little Lending Company. Penny is awesome and was such a massive help to us planning our day. All of her props are amazing and it was very hard to choose from them all!
We went for a beautiful hanging table for our main ceremony focus decorated with a beautiful flower arrangement. We had a bespoke banner made for us by Penny that had the lyrics to our first dance song on and it was a perfect picture moment for everyone.
We wanted to carry on the theme of having a barn wedding so we went for a semi naked 3-tiered cake decorated with lots of fruits. Our first layer was pink champagne, the second was lemon drizzle and the third was a vanilla sponge. YUM!!!
As we love Greece we decided to go to Crete. The most beautiful resort I’ve ever been to. The place we went to was Radisson Blu Resort in Milatos. It was just stunning and relaxing – which we definitely needed!
It’s so hard to even narrow a few down!
Having a few special minutes alone with my dad heading to the barn on the back of the tractor, it was just very surreal and meant a lot to me.
I remember sitting at our top table before the food was served and just took a second to take all the emotions in and to feel grateful that everyone in front of me were there for James and I. It’s such a lovely feeling.
Advice For Other Couples
Always stick to doing what you both want to do. After all, it is you two that are getting married!!! It’s so easy for people to get involved and have their opinion (as much as they mean well) but at the end of the day, it’s about the two of you and that’s all that matters.
Invest your money on a good photographer and videographer, you’ll want to look back at your photos/video and remember them for the rest of your life – that’s really important.
