When I clapped eyes on this brilliant editorial shoot, I fell hook, line and sinker. What’s not to love about a riot of colour, kitsch décor and alternative bridal outfits?
Let’s begin with those super creative dresses shall we? A mint tulle dress featuring a sequin unicorn and a pastel pink fitted frock with a pair of swans, oh I need me one of those! Aren’t they brilliant? They were teamed with quirky accessories, bright, bold statement florals and smoke bombs for the portraits. Then there was the decoration, all out retro vessels filled with blooms, old school cool furniture and fun trinkets were perfectly scattered around the lovely butter cream cake, fun streamer photo booth and floral stationery.
It was all beautifully captured by the brilliant Becky Ryan Photography, who also tells us all about the thoughts behind the shoot too, thanks for sharing Becky.
“In April I got together with a team of fabulous local wedding suppliers for this dreamy, retro, kitsch styled shoot!
Taking some inspiration from what was my upcoming holiday at the time to west coast USA, I wanted to do something around a Palm Springs-esque colour palette of retro pastel pinks and mint. I also felt inspired from having seen some wonderfully colourful real life brides lately. Ladies no longer feel as obligated to stick to traditional white and ivory if that’s not who they are, and it’s fabulous to see some quirkiness being embraced.
A large part of bringing the vision to a reality was done with the help of Orange Tree Weddings who really brought the retro kitsch to the shoot with their wonderful styling and great array of props. Our brides quirky and colourful dresses were created from scratch (featuring some sequin appliqué loveliness) from local dress makers Bella Figura based in Matlock. The whole team were wonderful and really helped everything come together! Do check out everyone’s links at the end of this post for everyone that was involved. All the ladies are real wedding suppliers so if you fancy bringing some quirky retro kitsch to your own wedding day they could certainly help!”

So alternative and unique, I love it all. I am totally coveting that typewriter too, it’d be perfect in my new office.
