WWW readers Julia and Dean wed on the 1st July 2017 in a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a reception in a traditional pole tent in their own secret garden, Burrow Farm Gardens. What a treat you are in for today! Their whole day was so soft and romantic, with an ethereal quality and so many gorgeous floral details to enjoy.
Our pair were lucky enough to have lots of help from generous and talented friends and one of my favourite details is the simply amazing wooden heart ceremony backdrop made by brother-in-law Dave, who also made the fantastic wooden cake stand, home to the most magnificent four tier buttercream cake. Julia and Dave went for a rustic feel in the marquee with lace runners and jam jars of the most wonderful wild flowers, which work just perfectly.
The soft romantic atmosphere carries through to Julia’s dress, the stunning Lou Lou by Kate Walker. I just love the soft woollen shrug she put on later to keep warm. Dean and the other menfolk look very dapper in their tweed three pieces from Moss Bros.
Huge thanks to Jennifer Jane Photography for these beautifully romantic images, which portray the relaxed, romantic atmosphere just beautifully.
THE PROPOSAL | Christmas Eve 2015, the fourth anniversary of our first date.
THE VISION | A relaxed outdoor wedding in beautiful surroundings with our close family and friends.
THE PLANNING PROCESS | The planning was the fun bit as we could arrange everything ourselves from our personalised wedding ceremony, organising the marquee, catering, entertainment etc. We were lucky to have so many of our friends helping out beforehand and helping to decorate the venue on the day itself. Friends helped make the napkins and decorate jam jars. Also sourcing and finding logs of similar sizes and of course the building of our beautiful arch and cake stand!
THE VENUE | Burrow Farm Gardens, Dalwood, Devon
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | I loved the soft romantic look of my Lou Lou dress from Kate Walker in Honiton
FINDING THE DRESS | Kate Walker is amazingly talented and knew exactly what options to put me in as soon as we started discussing the venue and style I was looking for.
GROOM’S ATTIRE | together with Best Men and Father of Bride: Tweed waistcoats and jackets from Moss Bros in Exeter.
THE READINGS & MUSIC | A Poem ‘The Present’ by Michael Donaghy was chosen and read by our dear friend Greta. Music at the ceremony was sung by a few of my more local friends who I have been in choirs with and I managed to join in with them on the last song. Then our amazing band in the evening ‘I Love Amp’ sang a beautiful version of ‘At Last’ by Etta James for our first dance.
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Our lovely nieces, Rose, Kiera, Martha and Evie all in dresses from Monsoon
THE FLOWERS | By In Bloom, Devon
THE CAKE | A four tier cake: a chocolate fudge cake layer followed by a layer of lemon cake then Victoria sandwich and topped with a delicious coffee cake made by our very talented cake making friend, Rosie Beer.
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Jennifer Jane Photography was just perfect, her soft and romantic style of photography was exactly what we were looking for. We were also very lucky to have our friends from Harlequin Films wanting to film their first wedding and so we have a brilliant video of our day as well!
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | We had our ceremony in the Ha Ha area of the beautiful Burrow Farm gardens, in a little wooded glade with views out over the Devon countryside. Our dear friend Darrell kindly delivered our ceremony exactly how we wanted it. My brother-in-law, Dave, made us a wonderful arch using a piece of wood he found that looked like half a heart which he carefully split down the middle to create a perfect wooden heart to fit in the arch. We placed pretty flowers in jam jars on log down through the aisle between the guests to add to our romantic/country garden/rustic feel. Dave also made our amazing cake stand (basically a massive log still covered in moss and ivy). We are now using it as a seat in our garden. Our beautiful traditional pole marquee from Archers Marquees was decorated with fairy lights and bunting in our soft and romantic theme. We had long rustic tables again decorated with our jam jars of flowers on a lace runner along with our homemade napkins. Our delicious canapes and wonderful meal was supplied by Crinhay Farm catering who were just brilliant using locally sourced food. Nothing was too much trouble and I would especially recommend their gooseberry and white chocolate cheesecake! They also cooked our delicious pasties on site during the afternoon in preparation for our evening guests! We had a tea and coffee station set up (highly recommended) to take us through to the end of the night – in between a number of glasses of prosecco of course!
THE HONEYMOON | We honeymooned in the Highlands of Scotland and we stayed in the most beautiful log cabin at Eagle Brae. We decided to spend a morning viewing the beautiful local scenery of the Glen Affric on horseback with Highland Trekking and Trail Riding who were just brilliant considering Dean had never ridden a horse before!
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Everything was amazing from our beautiful ceremony in the Ha Ha with the sun shining on us all day. Amazing speeches by Dean and his best man (and brother) Shaun, they both had everyone laughing and crying! And then the most amazingly talented band, I Love Amp, who had everyone on the dancefloor by the end of the night.
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Take your time to make your choices and it pays off to put all the hard work in to have exactly how you envisage your day. Then just relax and enjoy the day.
