We have the most bright and fun real wedding today, just perfect for colour lovers. In fact, you only need to see that incredible rainbow shot above by Livvy Hukins to know that you are in for a really special story.
WWW readers John and Katie were hitched on the 5th August 2017 and decided to hold their reception at Huntsmill Farm in Buckinghamshire. The venue was perfect for their relaxed marquee celebration with ample accommodation. They totally transformed the space with the most incredible multicolour decoration; including ribbons everywhere, blooms and fun stationery. There were some wonderful moments including the rainbow appearing after earlier downpours and confetti bomb first dance. I also love the meringue adorned cake creation, stunning attire and the divine bouquets.
A gorgeous couple, a happy day and some divine images. Thanks for sharing them Livvy.
THE PROPOSAL | John took me to Barcelona in January 2015 for a belated birthday weekend away, after an afternoon of delicious tapas and wondering around Barcelona we went to the Sagrada Familia it was a total surprise when John got down on one knee next to the lakes. He had been plotting with my Mum and proposed with my Grannie’s ring in my Nannie’s ring box. We went to the W Hotel to phone our families then spent the evening celebrating in numerous Tapas bars!
THE VISION | The vision was always quite clear, we wanted a marquee, a fun, relaxed and colourful day with great music!
We knew we wanted to get married in the village church where I grew up as it has so many memories, my grand-parents, parents and brother all got married there for starters!
THE PLANNING PROCESS | We knew we wanted a Summer wedding to ensure as many of our family and friends from overseas could make it as possible. I love a list so I got writing and giving out jobs!
THE VENUE | Huntsmill Farm, Sharlstone.
As soon as we started thinking about venues, we knew we wanted somewhere with accommodation on site, our families were travelling and have children so we wanted somewhere they could make themselves at home.
Huntsmill ticked all the boxes, topping it off with beautiful grounds and views too!
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Dress – Mark Lesley from Stunning Bridal.
Necklace – Sif Jacobs, St Gyles Jewellers, Northampton.
FINDING THE DRESS | I own a clothing shop so had an idea of the shape and style of dress I wanted… we just had to find it! We started shopping on January, we went to 4 boutiques and I nearly bit the bullet but I had an appointment the following week Stunning Bridal. The day I was due to go I felt horrendous with an awful cold and nearly cancelled! Thank goodness I didn’t as I found THE dress and bought it that day. You really do know it’s ‘the one’ when you put it on!
GROOM’S ATTIRE | John decided early on that he wanted the grooms party to wear midnight blue suits with grey waistcoats.
John’s suit and shirt was made to measure by Saint Crispin Bespoke Menswear based in Northampton. The groom party all wore 3 piece suits from Next and shirts from TM Lewin. Flamingo cufflinks and socks for the Best Man and Ushers (A nod to the flamingo suit John wore on his Stag Weekend in Lisbon).
THE READINGS & MUSIC | We had the traditional Bridal Chorus for Katie’s entrance and the Wedding March for our exit, loving the romance of tradition. We also chose traditional hymns ‘Give me joy in my heart’ ‘Morning has Broken’ and ‘Jerusalem’ during the service.
There were readings chosen and read by close family, the first was by John’s brother David (1 Corinthians 13:4 – Love is….) and second by Katie’s Auntie Vicki (A Recipe for Marriage).
Everyone had high expectations for our evening as John runs parties called Boombastic so everyone was expecting us to have a festival/ 90’s theme/Silent Disco so we wanted to make sure we surprised them all!
When our guests arrived at the reception we had a 5-piece jazz band playing whilst everyone was enjoying welcome drinks and canapés.
For the evening we had a friend DJ for us in-between the band ‘Festival Nights’ sets, they were amazing and EVERYONE was on the dance floor…. John was on the stage a couple of times singing away and for their final song we were both on the stage!
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had four ‘grown-up’ bridesmaids, Kate, Alison, Nicki and Gemma who were all absolutely amazing on the day and my two gorgeous nieces as flower girls.
My Mum’s incredible friend Jan made the dresses. I decided on coral as the girls are all different skin tones and hair colours, I knew it would complement them all, the girls decided that they would all like the same style and for it to be long and not booby, I described to Jan the shape, she sketched it and the rest is history, they were absolutely PERFECT.
For my nieces, they had to have sparkles, puffy skirt and a big bow; they were absolutely spot on! I wanted them to wave wands walking down the aisle and wear flower crowns.
THE FLOWERS | My amazing cousin Christine has recently trained as a florist and she absolutely blew me away with what she created for our wedding. I sent her a few photos across of table pieces, flower arrangements I liked, the colours and plans for the wedding and she just took it to be next level! I mean, just look at that flower arch at the church!!
Christine used her local flower farm for as many flowers as she could, the little touches she arranged for us made it more special, the roses, I had ‘Bombastic’ in my bouquet and John wore a ‘Katie’ rose.
My Mum works at our local Primary School and they let us use the hall for prepping the flowers, Mum, Gemma (my sister in law and bridesmaid) and I helped Christine the night before the wedding making button-holes and flower crowns over a bottle of LPR and fish and chips!
After the wedding we decided to donate the flowers to our local hospice Cynthia Spencer in Northampton, to hopefully share a little bit of joy with the patients. I urge you to do the same if you can.
THE CAKE | We are lucky enough to have a family friend who offered to make our cake for us; Angie created a stunning 4 tiered cake with all our favourites, lemon, Victoria sponge and fruit cake! The meringues are our favourite and they were a great way of adding texture and colour to our cake. Angie did the most incredible job, it was perfect and exactly what we wanted!
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Livvy Hukins was the best choice we made for the wedding and I would wholeheartedly recommend her. We fell in love with Livvy’s style and once we met and bonded over tea and cake, we knew we needed to book her!
We had an engagement shoot with Livvy, which we were both quote anxious about, but she helped us relax/forget what we were doing and the shots were so perfect it made us even more excited for the wedding photos. Livvy captured the spirit of the day and we have so many memories and moments to look back on.
We are eagerly awaiting our video from the amazing Loz Morgan, our videographer, we know it is going to be incredible from his previous work.
Both Livvy and Loz were an absolute joy to be around and was everything you want from a wedding photographer/videographer. Both have a very laid back, natural style, which is exactly what we wanted.
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | I am a visual merchandiser ‘by trade’ and I had a specific look in my mind for the wedding and the little details were really important to me, I knew I wanted bright colours and lots of ribbon!
I showed John some ideas and gave me free reign on the décor, of course I drove him crackers asking him which one we should choose (obviously he always chose the wrong one!). I spent hours cutting ribbons for the chair backs, hoops, vase, and a ribbon wall, sourcing disco balls, finding our grandparents, parents and siblings wedding photos and but I was so pleased when we put it all together!
We found an amazing designer on Etsy who had designed something similar to what we wanted, I sketched out some ideas, sent some prints across to her and she pulled it all together and made exactly what we wanted.
Our favours were a CD with all our favourite songs, which relate to the best times with our family and friends, (the cover was amazing photos from our engagement shoot) everyone always says that they are playing it in their car!
We had an absolute FEAST for dinner; we wanted loads of canapés as from my experience at weddings we are always starving by the time we get to the reception, then we had table sharers piled high with pulled meats, mac and cheese and salads. Followed by meringues the size of our heads, chocolate sauce, salted caramel cream and fresh berries.
We had the cutest caravan photobooth ‘Abbey’, which was also our guest book, it worked SO well as people actually wrote in it AND we have some brilliant photos and memories from pieces of the wedding we didn’t see.
My clever friend Polly from Rust & Splinter sourced us my dream card/gift box, a battered leather suitcase, relined with the hot pink satin, cute J&K buttons and used a sticker of our names from the wedding stationery on the outside; it takes pride of place in our lounge now.
Our first dance was (Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher by Jackie Wilson and just totally sums our relationship up.
THE HONEYMOON | We went Ibiza to let our hair down straight after the wedding and we are currently planning 3 weeks in Thailand & Malaysia for early 2018.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | There were so many magical moments I don’t know where to start! We had ALL the weathers on our wedding day, a glorious sunny morning, a downpour into hail when we arrived at the Church and during the ceremony, all until John and I were kneeling down to pray, the sun came out and lit the church up, we knew that absent people were looking down on us.
Another one for me was after our meal we were heading off for some photos and we saw the most magnificent rainbow and all rushed over to have our photos taken, they are just incredible, it couldn’t have been more perfect.
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | I had a lot of ideas in mind, streamline and go Pinterest cold turkey once you have made your decisions else you can go on and on finding new ideas! If you love detail, then do it, you won’t regret it. I am SO pleased we went to all the effort we did and the wedding was totally what we wanted and ‘us’.
Take offers of help, don’t try and do everything yourself!
It really is the best day of your life, everyone is there for you two, soak it up and ENJOY IT!
