Destination, party, relaxed, holiday.
Fran and Pete
We are headed to beautiful Italy for Fran and Pete’s Puglia wedding held at Masseria Grieco on the 22nd September 2019. Their vision was a relaxed, laid back, holiday vibe celebration with all of their nearest and dearest coming together for a big party. Firstly they married outdoors against the most beautiful arch of flowers and greenery, they then celebrated outdoors in the courtyard. They had their tables in a U shape with simple chic décor; festoon lights, greenery and candles galore! It looked magical. Also be sure to look out for super stylish attire and a real party atmosphere come evening. Wow!
WWW fave and Supplier Love wedding directory members, the amazing MIKI Studios captured their day in the most beautiful way possible; both with images and the stunning film below. Be sure to take in all the fantastic moments and every beautiful detail.
We got engaged on 1st July 2018 and it came as a complete surprise. We had been away with my parents earlier that summer and Pete had asked for my Dad’s permission then. Then while on holiday in Crete, we were on our balcony, watching the moon over the sea. We were playing music and dancing (send me on my way, the song we entered dinner to on our wedding day). Pete went inside to get something, when he came back out I gave him a hug. I rested my head on his chest and felt his heart racing. I was able to guess he was about to propose a few seconds before it happened…He got down on one knee and popped the question!
We wanted a laid back, not too formal, relaxed vibe. We wanted our guests to feel relaxed and in the holiday mood. So we made a whole weekend of it and had half of our guests staying on site. Our friends are a massive part of our lives and bringing them all together was on of the most exciting and fun bits. To see people mingling and getting on with people from different chapters of our lives as well as our family was so exciting! We also wanted some personal touches, so Fran learnt calligraphy and did the name cards herself and we had personalised napkins with the wedding venue and date.
We got legally married in Wandsworth town 7th September before going out to Italy. Then two weeks later had a symbolic ceremony and reception outdoors at Masseria Grieco. I had always wanted a destination wedding, to enjoy the weather and make a weekend of the celebrations. I have a vaguely Italian name and the combination of food, wine and weather meant it was a no brainer. We considered Tuscany to begin with but someone suggested Puglia and the warmer weather, having two close airports and the bonus of it being the food capital of Italy, meant we went to go look around a few venues there last September. We were due to see a few venues but upon travelling along the long driveway of Masseria Grieco and seeing the beautiful stone architecture we were stunned and in love! We then cancelled the remaining viewings of other venues. The huge swimming pool, wonderful courtyard with festoon lighting and beautiful rooms to accommodate 50 guests it was everything we were looking for and more.
The Readings & Music
We had a symbolic ceremony so instead of a hymn, we wanted a fun song our guests could sing along too. We wanted something upbeat, with a little cheese that everyone would know the words too. One night soon after deciding this we were throwing songs out there and Fran thought of “you’re the one that I want”, from the musical Grease. We both really enjoyed the movie from our youths and it felt perfect balance of fun and cheese and a song everyone knew. We had Pete’s godmother conduct the ceremony, who is professional celebrant and did a lovely job and leaving most people in tears
Your Outfits & Accessories
I wanted a simple dress that would suit the laid back, informal vibe of the wedding. Most importantly I wanted something I could dance in and wasn’t going to be too hot or heavy in the sunshine. I wanted my friends to be able to get close to me on the dance floor and not have a train that people would be standing on! I hadn’t realised it would create such a great effect when Pete spun me round on the dance floor!
Flowers were from Amsicora Fiori, a recommendation from our planners and they were so amazing. So beautiful. The arch looked stunning for us to stand under during the ceremony and seeing it in the images makes us smile every time.
We wanted something natural, light and breezy that would suit the beautiful stone the Masseria is built from. We both love blue and so we went with some lovely light blue colours, to match the natural blue green of Italy’s olive trees. Blue, green and white were the colours. The guy’s jackets went really well with stone coloured chinos which matched the stonework.
Your Photographer & Filmmaker
We wanted something as far away from the posed shots as possible, we wanted to images to capture real life moments of fun and love between us and our friends and family.
MIKI Studios are just AMAZING!!! We loved some of the work we saw on their website. We had a chat with them and got on well. They are simply so much fun, passionate about what they do and professional. It was amazing having 100% confidence in that aspect of the planning. You could tell on the day they knew exactly what they were doing, they chatted to guests and got involved, our guests loved them. We loved getting a few sneak peek photos the next day, that was like a wedding gift in itself. Worth every penny!!
We had the most amazing honeymoon in Mauritius just after the wedding. It was beautiful and very relaxing although we did take advantage of all the activities.
We knew our wedding was going to be amazing, but in all honestly the whole experience surpassed all expectation we ever had. It was the most amazing wonderful week of our lives, truly a dream come true. Some specific stand out moments were walking down the staircase and seeing my loved one’s faces and of course Pete! The tear jerking ceremony and readings. And definitely singing grease! THE PARTY!! Being on someone’s shoulders dancing to Wonderwall. All the guys taking their tops off to the Baywatch theme (a great university tradition).
Advice For Other Couples
If you are planning a destination wedding, where you don’t know the local suppliers or speak the language, then we would definitely suggest to get a planner! Wiskow and White were worth the money and a dream find – Just for the recommendations and speaking Italian they made all the difference.
We made a WIX website which also worked really well and meant we didn’t need to send invites or save the dates.
More brides should definitely do a speech if they are considering it, it was one of my highlights and something I really enjoyed.
Make the most of any destination wedding, having a whole weekend meant we got to hangout with all our favourite people and spend quality time with them. There is nothing more funny than giggling and remembering the night with your mates on a hangover the next day.
We haven’t stopped saying to each other “thank god we got a videographer, we would be kicking ourselves if we hadn’t!!”
