A very warm welcome to Jake and Jess this morning who are sharing with us in their own words their “amazing, unforgettable and jaw dropping” wedding day. They were hitched on the 10th August 2019 at The Priory in Little Wymondley, Hertfordshire. I am really local to this beautiful barn wedding venue and have had the pleasure of attending a wedding there, so I can certainly see why Jake and Jess fell for the rustic and majestic charms of the barn and the surrounding countryside.
Although they wanted a rustic feel, they also envisioned a modern twist, a style they have totally nailed, with the rustic barn setting and the modern on trend décor and styling. I really love all the pretty blooms, magical lighting and the statement floral iced cake.
Jess looked so beautiful in her Enzoani Mckinley gown, complete with lace veil, while Jake was suited and booted in Peter Posh with a contrasting waistcoat, such a dapper look. I am ever so grateful to be sharing with you these utterly wonderful images by Milkbottle Photography. What joy!
We planned Vegas for my birthday in 2017 but I secretly booked a helicopter flight into the Grand Canyon for a sunset lunch and champagne the day after my birthday so Jess wouldn’t think that it’s anything special when we landed we took a couple of pictures of each other then I asked another tourist if they could film me about to propose. Proposal date 30/11/17.
Rustic but with a modern touch.
The Planning Process
As soon as Jake proposed I was straight on the internet ordering a wedding planning book! So once we returned the book had arrived. That night we sat down re- searching places to get married. We liked the idea of a barn wedding and having the reception all on one site. Our venue was the second venue we had seen and I wasn’t 100% on it by the photos but as soon as you enter the barn you just know that this is the place your going to get married. It is truly gorgeous. So much history and the barn has a story to tell.
I actually fell pregnant beginning of 2018 so I had a lot of time on my hands to plan the wedding so I didn’t have any stress :) I wanted to get everything arranged whilst I was pregnant as I knew I wouldn’t have time once I had our baby.

My Wedding Dress
The designer – Enzoani
The dress – The Mckinley
So like most girls you have an idea of what you want in your head, all I wanted was a tight fitting dress with an open back and an amazing train.
I started researching designers and I found Enzoani and their dresses are just WOW Phenomenal!! Completely breathtaking. I found a dress and that was it I knew it was my dress so I looked to find which shop would stock the dress and found out that Le Sposi Bridalwear stocked the dress. I made an appointment which was quick and easy.
I went to my appointment and tried the dress on and that was it I had found my dress! But then Jez one of the owners who was my consultant said we have just got the 2018 version in do you want to try it on? She mentioned it was the same design but so much better, I obviously said yes and WOW the dress was everything and more than I could of imagined the train went on for days and the dress gave me a lovely shape.
The Designer – Peter Posh
The Suit – Royal Mohair Lounge Suit, Waistcoat – Melton Camel
I found the suit on Pinterest but I couldn’t get a link to the suit everywhere I looked I couldn’t find the suit so was giving up hope of finding it. Then Jess mentioned a wedding faye at Luton Hoo in their Conservatory and I’m so happy we went as there was a stall advertising the suit I had been looking at along with the suits I had been looking at for my groomsmen.
We took a brochure and made an appointment to go and see the suits and how they felt on.

Signing of the register –

Jason Mraz- I’m yours
John Legend – all of me

First dance was Kodaline – The One.
So I had the idea I wanted sky blue dresses and I wanted them to be off the shoulder. So off I went online searching, I found a site called LalaMira and they had THE dress so as it was online I ordered one to see what the material quality was like and how the girls felt in the dress. The quality was amazing and all the girls loved the dress and colour (we had so many compliments on the girls dresses and the colour).
Groomsmen wore the same suit just a different waistcoat and buttonhole.
Ben and Tim well where do I start.. they were brilliant from start to finish of all the planning and the actual wedding itself.
We actually found them online :) and loved their website and how different they were (in a good way).
On the day they were so good not in your face hidden and catching some amazing shots! They actually felt like they belonged at our wedding. Me and my partner were so happy as they came and got us just as the sun was setting to get some more photos and these photos are some of our favourites! We didn’t even think of getting some sunset photos :)
We have Now Forever Films for our videographers – who are Sue and Terry.
We found them at Luton Hoo wedding faye.
Sue and Terry were so kind and welcoming and we instantly felt calm around them, I knew they were the right people to do our video as they were just so passionate about their work and what they deliver at the end of everything.
They fitted into our day perfectly, very happy and complementary about everything.
We now can’t wait to view our video :)
So again I found our Florist at a wedding faye and her display was exactly what I had been designing in my head (Yay) I booked her there and then and said this is what I want exactly as you have done it here! She had all the colours that I wanted and added a bit extra for my bridesmaid bouquets.
I had yellows oranges greens white and a hint of blue in my bouquet.
We found our cake maker at Milton Keynes wedding faye, I was quite pregnant at this time and I had eaten so much cake at the event that I really didn’t want to eat anymore. But my friends said try her cake it’s to die for. I’m so glad I did because her cake was truly delicious and she is truly talented! All the delicate details she does by hand just WOW!
We made an appointment and met up at her house for a consultation where we tried loads of flavours!
We went for a four tier cake –
Top tier – white chocolate and raspberry
Second from top – chocolate fudge
Second from bottom – cookies and cream
Bottom – lemon
We had lace detailing which she hand pipes on to the cake. Also she made all our flowers by hand with sugar icing.
She also made us 12 cupcakes which were mini versions of our main cake.
The Details & Décor
We decided to go for sashes on the back of all the chairs which was a lace sash have a lovely affect on the chairs.
We also hired from Sparkling Event Hire – the arch which sat on the stage where we were getting married and the signing of the registration of marriage. Sarah at Sparkling Event Hire also provided 4 blossom trees 2 in light dusty pink and 2 in white.
For our centrepieces we had a log with 3 jars on top filled with some gorgeous flowers. Our florist also put extra vases on the top table for my bouquet and my bridesmaid’s bouquet.
We had a sweet table which I provided the jars and sweets myself as it was much cheaper and I loved the idea of doing a bit of DIY for my wedding :)
We also hired a photo booth called the Hoofbooth this was a nod to my horse background and it was something different and went down a treat.
The lanterns we had which gave some an amazing effect on the day was perfect throughout the day they changed colours and just set the mood for the evening.
The love lettering – we had the O beating – this is one thing me and Jake loved about this as we hadn’t seen it before.
For our first dance we had dry ice – best decision we made!
Grand Bahia principe Punta Cana
As it will be our first family holiday as well as honeymoon.
One of our memorable moments was singing waiters they were a surprise from us both no one else knew about them and I’m so glad we had them.
As they got everyone up dancing and completely changed the atmosphere so everyone was ready to get their dancing shoes on for the evening.
Also our first dance with the dry ice it was like we were dancing in the clouds truly stunning… it was all truly breathtaking that it’s hard to say only a few things.
Advice For Other Couples
RELAX and just enjoy every moment! Take time out with your new partner and look at your guests enjoying the moment. Go for a walk with them just to reflect on the day. Also dance like no one is watching! Also don’t forget to eat, we nearly forgot our evening food and the cake we didn’t get any of it :(
