Pretty Festival Feel Barn Countryside Wedding

Pretty Festival Barn Countryside Wedding

This wedding is MAGICAL. It is full of love, grace and an abundance of glorious florals. You are going to be in your element, trust me.

WWW readers Kayli and Matthew were married on the 5th August 2016 at Gate Street Barn in Surrey. Following their engagement at Glastonbury Festival, they wanted to create a beautiful country barn wedding with festival touches. Subtle nods included the Glastonbury table names and awesome music choices. But the show stopping part of their day? Hands down, the flowers. They were everywhere and the ceiling installation in the barn was particularly striking. Just wait until you see the chandeliers and the bloom filled jars on the top table. Amaze.

Kayli’s gown was very special too, she wore Regency by Suzanne Neville, which was backless with delicate sleeves and she teamed it with Jimmy Choo heels. The gents donned navy suits, bow ties and tan shoes, while the bridesmaids looked gorgeous in Twobirds multi-way pink dresses. Oh the style.

Thanks so much to Clare Tam-Im for sharing these divine shots.

THE PROPOSAL | Matt proposed on 25th June 2014 at Glastonbury Festival, after 8 years together. We have been going to the festival together for the past few years and it is a place we both just love. We arrived at the festival on the Wednesday and as per tradition, later on that evening we headed up to the infamous Glastonbury hill, which overlooks the entire festival. The sun was just about setting, we both opened a can of cider and out of nowhere, Matt pulled out a candle and lit it between us both. I did wonder what was going on, but we were at Glastonbury, having a great time and soaking up the atmosphere! Matt begun to tell me how much he loved me and how he wanted us to spend the rest of our lives together. He pulled out a box from his pocket with the ring inside and asked me to marry him. I was completely blown away and stunned and I remember saying, ‘oh my gosh, is this happening, really, is this happening??’ Considering we had hundreds of other people around us, at the moment in time it was just Matt and I and no one else was aware what was happening! It was a moment I will never ever forget. My ring was perfect. It was a teardrop shape diamond, which I had always told Matt I wanted. My engagement ring was handmade, which makes it that extra bit special to me as Matt chose it all, from the diamond to the setting. We then headed to a tent called The Beats hotel afterwards for cocktails with our friends and continued to celebrate for the rest of the festival!!!

THE VISION | I always knew I wanted to get married in a barn and having got engaged at Glastonbury, we wanted to incorporate that in to our day too. As every bride does, I wanted our day to be beautiful and perfect. I wanted it to be pretty, rural and very English country garden esq and most of all, I wanted it to have the wow factor and for our day to symbolize Matt and I. We never wanted the traditional style wedding.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We always knew we wanted a summer wedding, so once we had a month in mind, the next thing was to find a venue. We booked our venue in August 2014, so we had lots of time to plan our big day!

By the end of 2014, we had all of our main suppliers booked in. We had our photographer, florist, DJ, hair and make-up artist and caterers. We also had our save the dates bespoke made, by the lovely Folio Bespoke.

Within a year of being engaged, we had all the main things booked in and I even had my dress too! Feeling happy that we had all of the big things ticked off our list, we could take it easy for the next couple of months. Nearing to the end of 2015, I had bought the bridesmaid dresses, sorted out our invitations (which were once again bespoke made by Folio Bespoke) and ordered our cake. It wasn’t until the beginning of 2016, that the planning got in full swing again!!! At the beginning of 2016, we decided to book a quirky photobooth, we bought our wedding rings, bought Matthew’s suit, my shoes, sorted out the best men and ushers and very very last minute, decided to book in a videographer! During the 2 years of planning, we collected lots of glass jars (over 80!) and bought lots of styling items to be used for our big day. I’m a super organised person, which massively helped and I had lots of spreadsheets and lists, which I could tick off to keep us in check and ensure we missed nothing off!!!

BUDGET | We never really gave ourselves a budget, but knew not to get too carried away!!! We just wanted to have the best day ever!!!!

THE VENUE | The ever so beautiful Gate Street Barn was the first and only barn we viewed and from the moment we got there, we knew that was where we wanted to get married! It was rural, stunning and beautiful, with the most wonderful views. The barn itself had so much character to it. It had so many beautiful features, which meant we could be really creative and decorative with the styling. There was also The Pheasantry, another gorgeous building located right next to the barn and where the bar was located. The Pheasantry had huge glass doors that opened out to stunning views and the cutest little Shepherds hut! Then there was the beautiful outside space, where our guests could sit, chill and relax and take in the breath taking views of the Surrey Hills. The barn has the most wonderful, chilled atmosphere and it really did tick all the boxes! It even had cows too, which we loved because of the link to Glastonbury Festival!

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | My dress was Regency by Suzanne Neville. I also wore the matching Suzanne Neville veil, with lace which matched the sleeves on my dress. I wore a Jenny Packham headpiece and Jimmy Choo shoes. My dress was purchased from Ellie Sanderson Bridal Boutique, Beaconsfield.

FINDING THE DRESS | I pretty much knew the style of dress that I wanted. I knew I wanted it to feature lace, (but not too much!) and I wanted a dress with sleeves of some sort. I wanted the dress to ooze elegance, to be stunning and unique and of course to have the wow factor!

I never wanted anything too fussy and most of all I wanted the dress to be me!!

The dress I chose was actually the very first dress I tried on! I fell in love with it from the moment I saw it and even more so once I had tried it on. It was everything and more that I had dreamed my wedding dress would be. I felt amazing in it!!! To me, it really had the wow factor. The front, simple, yet elegant and the open back was just stunning. I tried lots of other dresses on just to make sure I had found the one, but no other dress came close to Regency. I couldn’t stop thinking about it and every other dress I had tried on, I continued to compare back to Regency. No other dress made me feel as amazing as that dress did! It was all I could think about, so I knew it was the one. I tried it on once more and my decision was made. That was the dress I was going to walk down the aisle in. Even now, I still absolutely adore my dress!!

GROOM’S ATTIRE | Matt wore a Mark Powell made to measure navy suit. He wore an ivory silk tie with a white shirt to match and white braces, all of which came from Mark Powell too. He wore tan buckle shoes from Russell and Bromley and a Paul Smith Watch, which was my wedding gift to him.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | I wanted something subtle to walk down the aisle too, no words, just instrumental. I came across The Piano Guys, A Thousand Years and I fell in love with it. It was such a gentle piece of music. Walking back up the aisle after we were married, we had The Wannadies, You and Me. It is such an upbeat song and the lyrics ‘You and me always’ were very fitting on our wedding day.

Matt and I both chose a reading. Matt chose John Lennon, Love and I chose Bob Marley, Hes Not Perfect, which is a personal favourite of mine!

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had four bridesmaids in total. My sister, my cousin and my two best friends. They wore the beautiful Twobirds Bridesmaid dresses, in Blush. I just love how versatile these dresses are. Each bridesmaid had their dress wrapped in a different way and wore it how they wanted too. Its always tricky finding a dress to fit all, but with these dresses everyone was happy, comfortable and they all looked beautiful!!!! Their shoes were nude kitten heel peep toes from Fabulous.

THE FLOWERS | The wonderfully talented Little Tin Shed provided our flowers and venue styling. They were just fabulous. We had our first meeting with them way back in November 2014 and from the minute we met with them, they understood our vision and just got it!!! Our flowers had an English Country garden feel, with the soft colour pallet of pale pinks, creams and pastel colours. Roses and a variety of other flowers types were used throughout.

My bouquet was simply beautiful. Filled with a beautiful arrangement of roses and other flowers of soft, subtle colours, keeping within the colour scheme. For the button holes we had gypsophila, with a flower inspired from the bridal bouquet and for our pageboy, he had his very own Lego man button hole – totally adorable!

Our florists our very creative, which was wonderful so they went all out with our venue styling! From hanging flowers from a chandelier, to decorating a shepherds hut, to rose petals scattered down the aisle! They really were magical!

THE CAKE | We had a three tier naked cake, with berries and flowers which co-ordinated with our wedding scheme. Our cake was beautiful. We had carrot cake on the bottom, followed by pistachio and then lemon. It tasted so yummy!!!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Our photographer was the wonderful Clare Tam-Im. We were recommend Clare and we booked her very early on. She was totally awesome and just blended in on our day. Clare’s style isn’t traditional and that is exactly what Matt and I were after. Our photos are just stunning and natural. Clare totally just blended in and captured all the important bits and everything in between!!

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Our venue styling was carried out by the lovely Little Tin Shed. Our main focus point was the hanging flowers we had from the chandeliers inside the barn. There were four chandeliers in total and these were a key feature. One of the chandeliers was dressed with stunning, individual flowers hanging from it, creating a ceiling of flowers, along with beautiful green foliage in twined. This particular chandelier was a key feature in the barn and it was also above where Matt and I got married and where our top table would later be!! The other three chandeliers were dressed with white roses, leaves and green foliage in twinned. It was so beautiful and unique and it was a total show stopper!!!

The aisle was scattered with beautiful ivory rose petals too!!!

After we got married, we of course had confetti thrown and for this, we had our own personalised confetti cones which read Mr & Mrs Towalski and the date of our wedding. The rose petals were biodegradable and we chose a pallet of pink and cream petals. This was all purchased from The Confetti Cone Company.

Outside, at the entrance to the barn, our florist had installed two stunning flower cornices using the same colour palette, which was used throughout our wedding. We also had three different sized lanterns (which I purchased from Hobbycraft) placed outside the entrance of the barn too, with jam jars filled with flowers, scattered in between. Next to this, we also had the word LOVE spelt out in the cutest individual light up letters which we bought from

Our table plan was also located at the entrance of the barn and was placed on an easel. Matt and I made our table plan. We purchased a large white vintage frame from eBay, along with bright coloured luggage tags and a dymo label maker to print our guests names out on. The labels were then placed on the luggage tags and hung from jute string and held in place by little heart pegs that we had bought on a recent trip to Cornwall!

Our top table was a stunning garden of jam jars filled with flowers – we must have had over 60 on our top table alone! We also had jam jars filled with flowers for our table centre pieces too, each with the colour palette following suit and these were placed on round slates hired from our florist. Our tables were named after stages at Glastonbury Festival and our table name cards were bespoke made by Ink & Seal. Our table card holders were vintage salt and pepper jars, which were purchased from

Our caterers were the ever so talented Kalm Kitchen. They are super cool and the way the present their food is incredible!!! After Matt and I got married, our guests were served a variety of 7 different canapés, from curried monkfish bites to fillet of beef skewers. These were served in the most unique way, some in birdcages, some on mirrors too. They even incorporated our flowers provided by our florist too to present our food on! Matt and I even had our very own bridal tray, which was a beautiful bird cage covered in roses! We chose not to serve a starter, so headed straight into mains for our wedding breakfast of slow braised lamb shank with a spring onion mash, fine French beans and a rosemary jus! Matt and I couldn’t decide on a desert when we went for our tasting with Kalm Kitchen as they all tasted so delicious, so we decided to serve our guests with alternating deserts. Matt had chosen tropical mess and I chose salted chocolate brownie. Later on in the evening, our guests were served late night munchies of fish and chip cones and ciabatta with parma ham, mozzarella and basil.

Our caterers also set up a ladder station, which served yummy elderflower cordial! This feature was also decorated with jam jars filled with flowers which were scattered and placed on the ladders, along with three huge feature balloons (purchased from Hobbycraft) and three large iron tin trough, which were filled with our favourite beer and cider for our guests to drink after our ceremony!

The entrance to The Pheasentry had bunting placed outside and our wedding cake was placed in this room too, with Matt and Is initials beside it. We bought these letters from Hobbycraft which my Dad painted cream for us!! This room already had beautiful Hops hanging from the ceiling, so we didn’t need to go overboard with the décor here, so Matt and I scattered pom poms around the ceiling, along with some bunting at the bar, which again was purchased from Hobbycraft. I also placed a string of vintage style polaroids of Matt and I over the past 10 years of us being together.

It was in this room that we also had a photo of Matt and I, taken from our engagement shoot placed on a table. The photo frame (purchased from Ikea) had a large white boarder around it, with space for our guests to sign and leave a message for us on. This frame is now hanging in our living room with all of our lovely messages from our guests!

We also booked a really quirky photobooth too – Tiffany The Vintage Caravan. We loved how different it was and hardly any of our guests knew we had it booked, so it was a lovely little surprise later on in the evening. Not only did we get some amazing photos from the booth, but our guests also signed tags and left us each a message!

THE HONEYMOON | Straight after our wedding, Matt and I went on a mini moon to a beautiful cottage in Devon, called Moorland View. We stayed there for a couple of nights, where we went for walks in the moors, cooked yummy home made dinners, enjoyed cocktails at Bovey Castle and ate the remaining of our wedding cake too!!!! Our big honeymoon is to the Maldives next month, which we are so very excited for!!!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | There are so many memorable moments of our day, its incredibly hard to whittle it down!! Walking down the aisle is my most favourite moment and seeing the reaction on Matt’s face. I adored our first dance, as Matt and I become so engrossed in that moment. We were so overwhelmed by the whole day, it was lovely to have those couple of minutes together. Straight after our first dance, we asked for ‘Lucky Man’ by The Verve to be played. I remember all of our guests cheering when the song begun and before we knew it, Matt and I had a circle around us as we were dancing to the music. That memory always makes me smile.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Enjoy every second of your wedding day and take the whole day in. Be sure to set aside 5 minutes of the day for you and your new husband to take everything in around you. Just sit back and watch what is happening around you!! Be as organised as possible. I had lots of spreadsheets to keep us in check and to ensure we didn’t miss anything off and I can honestly say, we had the most perfect day ever and nothing went wrong!! Do things the way you and your husband want to and not how everyone else thinks it should be! Remember its your day, so do what makes you both happy!!! Don’t sweat the small stuff, because it really doesn’t matter and don’t forget, that it’s only you and your husband who really know how you’ve planned your wedding. So, if something does go wrong, its very unlikely your guests will even notice!!
