Nature lovers, this beautiful set of inspirational images are sure to leave your heart full, thanks to the outdoor woodland setting of Longton Wood. Not to mention the geometric luxe style and stunning décor used throughout.
I just adore the tablescape in the woodland, sat below a suspended floral installation of greenery and foliage. It’s breathtakingly beautiful and coordinates beautifully with the wild bouquets. The bride and bridesmaids look ever so stylish in their boho feel gowns with totally flawless make up looks. I especially love the hairstyles, which really are romantic, perfect for a natural affair.
You are also going to be smitten when you see the statement floral cake, the pretty modern calligraphy stationery in blue and gold, plus the rustic touches on the table set up.
Thanks so much to Aisle & Style for sharing this shoot with us; with the beautiful images courtesy of Meraki Wedding Photography and the dreamy film provided by Instinct Wedding.
Outdoor Woodland Wedding Ideas
When there was an opportunity to work with this fantastic outdoor venue – Longton Wood in Kent – there was no question about whether make-up artist Claire from Bear Beauty (the initiator of this project), would take on the challenge of creating a beautiful outdoor wedding shoot. And so she immediately set out to find someone to help bring everything to life. This was where I came in. Claire and I began working on some design ideas and it was clear from the outset we had a similar vision – to create something beautiful that encompasses everything meaningful about the outdoors.
We created a style board that demonstrated how the outdoors would be the main inspiration, however it was important to us to show the modern-day bride that not all outdoor weddings have to have an exclusively bohemian vibe. We were really passionate about showing that you can very much create something outdoors that also has a contemporary feel and a touch of luxury.
Whatever the theme of the day is going to be, it’s the small details that really allow you to bring your chosen concept alive. For us to be able to deliver a sense of modern and luxe, all of the key elements of this shoot, from the textures of the fabrics, to the lighting and the colours, were carefully considered to ensure they stayed true to the theme.
I chose a geometric theme to run though some of the fundamental parts of the wedding such as the beautiful cake designed and handcrafted by Caroline from Baking Beautiful, and the wonderful stationery suite and signage by the talented Merrie Haig from Merrie & Bright. The strong lines and sharp corners on this linear design gave these important details that modern edge, and by choosing gold as a complimentary colour to the soft blues, pinks and natural sage greens, meant there was a feeling of luxury to this natural and beautifully fresh setting.
The bridal gown and bridesmaid dresses were handpicked from a collection supplied by Poppy Perspective (bridal gown) and Maids To Measure (bridesmaid dresses), all of which completely fitted the brief of ‘modern boho with soft flowing fabrics’.
I chose Botias Accessories to supply all of the jewellery and hair pieces because their gorgeous detailed gold accessories were perfect for the modern boho bride.
The hair and makeup on the day were by Bear Beauty and She Said Yes Bridal Hair. It was important that we didn’t have too much of a ‘done’ look so Claire from Bear Beauty enhanced the models natural features using a dewy and light base and soft earthy colours on the cheeks, eyes and lips. The bride and bridesmaids hairstyles were all designed by Kimberly from She Said Yes Bridal Hair from a very simple remit: ‘soft and graceful’.
Onto the florals which were all about keeping with the outdoor woodland theme. I wanted the bouquets and floral arrangements to look like they had been handpicked from the woodland so Catherine from Catherine Short Floral Design chose lots of silver/grey foliage with silver Brunia berries and white anemones and ranunculus. The same flowers made their way into the cake and thanks to the talented Caroline (Baking Beautiful), these ones were all edible!
As with any wedding, the table settings are also a crucial part of the design process and as with the rest of the shoot, it was really exciting to create something slightly outside my usual style. In keeping with the woodland theme, I chose a relaxed seating environment using low tables and a variety of throws and cushions that matched the chosen colour palette. This was a great way to introduce some new textures into the design. For the table settings I used wooden tree slates and beautiful bespoke silk table runners with gold geometric terrariums dotted along for decoration. Supplied by Beyond Vintage, these table accessories were an ideal combination of natural and modern.
Finally, all of these beautiful scenes needed to be captured, ensuring that we were truly representing the mood and atmosphere in exactly the right way. We had the fabulous Justina from Instinct Wedding shooting a behind the scenes mini film. The film wonderfully portrays just how much effort and precision went into the day itself.
Last but by no means least, we had our photographer, Annaleisa from Meraki Weddings on board. Annaleisa has a quote on her website;- ‘To do something with soul, creativity, or love. To put a part of yourself into what you are pursuing or creating’. This was almost enough to convince us she was the perfect match for this shoot but once we saw her portfolio we knew she would be able to capture the mood exactly how we envisioned. And you will see she did exactly that!
So that is a little bit about the inspiration and talent behind this shoot and I hope you enjoy the browsing the images as much as we did creating them!
