I have to admit, I have a soft spot for a woodland wedding as I got married in the woods myself. So I am over the moon to be sharing the boho beautiful New Forest wedding of Ian and Millie at Weddings In The Wood in the summer.
Their day was all kinds of gorgeous, with burnt orange and green tones, ridiculously stunning flowers and so many wonderful DIY decorations. I especially love the outfit choices. Ian wore a modern suit and shirt while Millie donned a lace gown and fedora hat complete with blooms. So cool! Also, look out for fun hats later on.
Thanks go to Sasha Weddings for sharing these totally gorgeous images of a really special celebration in the forest.
Ian had bought me a wooden train advent calendar and each day was putting little sweets in each drawer. On Christmas eve I opened it to find a ring wrapped up in tissue paper, as I turned around Ian was on one knee holding our son and asked me to marry him. A PERFECT proposal!
We always pictured an outdoor wedding and under trees, when looking at venues we instantly fell in love with ours for the ceremony area within the forest. We wanted a comfy wedding where people could really enjoy themselves. We always envisioned lots of music and dancing and a relaxed feel.
We were originally due to get married last year so after our postponement we decided to do a small surprise ceremony on Christmas eve which was so intimate and calm so this one we really wanted to be full of family and friends and to make sure that everyone was having a great time.
The ceremony was carried out in the woods by my auntie (Angela) who just so happens to be a registrar! She carried out such a beautiful and personal ceremony and we had a reading by my stepdad.
Before the ceremony we had a harpist in the woods who was just incredible, we walked down the aisle to Dire Straits, Romeo and Juliet. She was then accompanied by Josh a saxophonist for a fun set during the post-ceremony drinks.
We booked a local band to us called Stolen For The Party, they also played at my mum and stepdads wedding and we ended up having the same first dance to them.
As a surprise, after my mum finished her speech a waiter started singing joined by another. 5 Years ago my mum had told me she went to a wedding when this happened and It clicked when he started singing that she had arranged all of this for a surprise for us. The whole marquee was up and singing in no time!

I bought my dress from Rock The Frock in Essex during a trip with my bridesmaids, mum and mother in law. They were just fantastic and after a few horrible dress shop experiences, I can honestly say they were the best shop around! They stock a whole range of alternative/modern dresses and Mollie was amazing who found me my dress.
The dress itself is from the incredible designer Poppy Perspective. I knew instantly it was the one before I put it on. The designer Phiney sent it to me directly during lockdown (our first wedding date was 25th July 2020). From there we always stayed in touch and she carried out my alterations during one of her pop up shows in London.
She not only created the perfect dress but her kindness during planning a pandemic wedding was a token of what a kind person she is.
Ian wore a tailored suit from Moss Bros, shirt from Hugo Boss and shoes from Sebago.
We haven’t received our video yet but it’s by a friend through his company pressplayweddings.
Our photographer Sasha nailed the assignment!!!! We wanted candid moments and emotions captured and every single photo sent to us does exactly that. We never wanted pristine posed photos but snippets of people enjoying themselves. She effortlessly moved around the wedding snapping away and we could not of asked for anything more with what she gave us.
The decorations were very simple and made by us mainly.
The cake was created by Purely Scrumptious, the daughter of the owner is one of my best friends (the mother of my petal person, Willow who walked down the aisle with our son Sidney). As we had a whole dessert table full of sweets and homemade goods from friends we didn’t even get a chance to eat the cake until the next day! We wolfed it down with our families.
The flowers down the aisle were created by cuttings from a friends’ garden and the buttonholes, bouquets and the hat was by Blossom Boutique. I took in some fake flowers that I had made for our Christmas eve wedding as I wanted the same colours, they matched them so well but gave a whole new summer twist. I had so many compliments about the hat and how stunning the flowers looked on it.
We didn’t really have a theme but ended up with a lot of green/burnt orange colours.
DIY – I upcycled a record player which used to be my step grandmothers as the guestbook and we used Ian’s mum’s brother’s old records to be signed by everyone.
I painted the beer pong table myself with a picture of us in the middle. I also made the archway and macramé myself.
Yet to come..
Every moment, but the few that really stood out to me…
Do whatever makes you happy, traditional or not. The day is about you and your partner enjoying every moment.
Does it get any more fun?!
Ian and Millie, thank you both so much for sharing your amazing New Forest wedding story with us.
