Today’s featured couple is Becky and Dan whose beautifully relaxed barn wedding took place on 3rd February 2018 at the stunning Merriscourt in the Cotswolds. This pair were incredibly lucky with talented family who provided the wonderful cake and simply glorious florals. Becky’s tumbling bouquet and the incredible foliage chandeliers are just so striking and the candlelight and fairy lights are really very cosy.
I love the textured look of Becky’s Pronovias gown, just perfect for a winter wedding and doesn’t it look great with the train up later in the day? Meanwhile Dan and the groomsmen plumped for tweed, just perfect for the colder months. Becky didn’t necessarily want her bridesmaids to match entirely, so they all picked their own style in the same material from the Dessy range.
Aren’t the images brilliant? Thanks go to Katie de Silva for today’s loveliness. Enjoy everyone!
We had tickets to go and see the kings of Leon one evening last July, Dan surprised me by taking the day off so we could make a day of it. He proposed mid dog walk on the way for lunch in our favourite local pub. I was so excited!
I didn’t have a vision, I knew I just wanted it to be super relaxed. I didn’t like the idea of a formal wedding, it just wasn’t us so I was so happy when it all came together so naturally. It was the most perfect day and even though I didn’t have a vision at the start, I knew on the day that it was truly perfect and so true to us. We love nature and being outdoors so our wedding was full of beautiful moss, flowers and wooden details. We wanted it all to be really simple so we never went over board on stressing out. Helen (Dan’s mother) and her team created all the incredible floral displays, adorning every table with flowers and the stunning cart wheels hanging from the ceilings were draped. It was just magical, especially in the evening when it went dark and all the candles were lit!
THE PLANNING PROCESS
Summer is our favourite time of year. We longed for a summer wedding but we just couldn’t guarantee the weather if went full out and it poured down so we thought we’d go wild and book a winter wedding instead. I really didn’t stress out about the planning side, we just let it flow naturally. It was so great to have all our family together under one roof and it turned out just as we’d planned, as one big party
Merriscourt was the very first and only venue we viewed. It had everything we needed and so much space to play with. The grounds were incredible and the staff were unbelievably helpful and welcoming. They couldn’t do enough to help us. It had all the additional buildings there to make it possible for us to spend the whole weekend there and not have to change venues. All our family stayed in the stunning cottages on site and Dan and I had our own spaces to stay over the night before with our bridesmaids & groomsmen. It was just perfect. They provided everything we needed to make it super stress free and served the most beautiful food for all our guests. They were so organised too and everything was handled without interrupting our day. I would recommend them to anyone!
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES
I bought my dress at The Bridal Box Oxford, it was by Pronovias and I also bought the tiara I wore from there too. I was looking at really bohemian dresses online as I didn’t want anything too traditional. After deciding we were having a winter wedding they just would’t have been suitable for the weather. My friend recommended this designer to me who created my beautiful dress. She managed to create the dress I loved and keep the balance between unique and practical. It was so comfortable and she was so talented.
FINDING THE DRESS
I always loved the idea of having a beautiful bohemian style dress so when I saw this one I loved it, especially for our winter wedding!
Dan wears a suit every day for work so wanted something more relaxed. With it being a winter wedding we thought the tweed would look great. It really suited the whole feel of our day and reflected our love of the countryside. It had so much more personality and the other ten groomsmen looked awesome in them as well!
THE READINGS & MUSIC
A good friend of mine wrote a poem as our first reading. A family friend read a passage from Winnie the Pooh and Dan’s dad picked a reading called ‘What is love’
Our first dance was ‘Meet me there’ by Nick Mulvey.
The girls each picked their favourite dress from the Dessy range. It was so great to see them all in their own unique style and not matching and it took the pressure off me having to choose something that matched.
We were really lucky, Dan’s mum is an incredible florist so Helen and her team were in charge of our amazing flowers throughout, dressing the venue the day before and creating all the bouquets and buttonholes on the morning of the wedding.
Dans granny made it herself and included our dog Eric, it was just perfect!
The amazing Katie de Silva. We met Katie a few years back after meeting at a wedding event in the North. She was so much fun and relaxing to work with and completely got the kind of photography we wanted. We loved her style and personality and absolutely love our pictures! She worked so hard on the day and captured all the most incredible moments right through to the very end. It was so great to have her around and I would recommend her to anyone.
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR
Dan’s mum, Helen and her team of florists worked so hard to create the incredible draping floral displays hung from the ceilings, windows and the most amazing candelabras throughout the venue. It was stunning and more than what I wished for.
We both loved getting all our family and friends under one roof, it felt really special. It was just a really good party and so relaxed.
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES
