I am in wedding heaven with WWW readers Jenessa and Joey’s meadowscape wedding today inspired by wildflowers and hot air balloons. They were married at Kingscotebarn in Gloucestershire in the Spring with multicoloured decorations and a lot of sentimental touches.

Jenessa is a florist and so the flowers were an integral part of their day. Just wait until you see the epic arrangements throughout their day.

Then there was the cool attire, the cute dog ring bearer and super pretty cake. I was also pleased to see gorgeous bridesmaid dresses by WWW wedding supplier Rewritten. Hooray!

I have a funny feeling you are going to love this gorgeous day. Big thanks to Rich Howman for sharing these superb images.

I saved so much stuff from WWW during the planning stages of our wedding. Literally almost everything that was posted I loved and admired!

The Proposal

Joey proposed on our very last night in Disney World, Florida in 2018. We managed to get a space in a VIP area, totally by chance because some other people hadn’t turned up and a cast member invited us to watch the fireworks from there.

I was sad it was our last day and after all the saving, planning and trials and tribulations getting there, it would soon be over. We were holding on to each other, singing along messily and emotionally to my favourite part of the show, dedicated to the floating lanterns scene from Tangled. Joey’s hands had gone really cold; I thought that was a bit odd.

He turned me around to face him, his face was as pale as paper. His cold hands holding mine got down on one knee and asked me to marry him just as the lanterns started to lift on the castle and “I see the light” was playing.

It was totally unplanned. (Joey ‘desperately’ needed to go to the toilet before the show, it was actually to phone his Mum and Dad who were 6 hours ahead, to tell them that he was thinking of asking me to marry him.)

It just all fitted together nicely and Joey figured he wouldn’t get another opportunity as perfect as that to do it. It was private enough that we didn’t have crowds of people watching us, it had my favourite song and it was the success of a hard-earned holiday that just made it all the more perfect.

The Vision

We wanted to keep things colourful to reflect our energetic personalities and cheerful lifestyle. We wanted to stand out and make sure the day represented us as a couple.

We ended up going with Wildflowers and Hot Air Balloons as our theme. Joey’s birthday always falls on the Bristol Balloon fiesta weekend, so that’s always had a special place for him. And with me being a florist, it was obvious I was bound to go mad on flowers. This also meant we could keep things colourful and energetic!

Your Outfits

Dress – Madi Lane Bridal from Wild Floral Bridal, East Sussex.

The dress ended up being a total surprise to me! I travelled down to Kent to visit my sister and go dress shopping with her. I’d been scouting this shop for months and 2 dresses in particular.

Off the shoulder, flowy and frilly with flowers, elegant and princessy. After trying these on we took a break and the shop owner suggested I pick a couple of other dresses out that I might want to try, I grabbed a few I knew I liked the look of and then blindly pointed at one and just said “Eh, I’ll give it a go.”

I didn’t expect to like it, it was lacy, boho and fitted. Nothing like any of the dresses I’d visualised myself in. But when I tried this one on, I literally stopped in my tracks. I was like “Oh…oh wow…this one is actually…pretty amazing.” I remember excitedly saying “Look at my bum!” because it looked so good!

In the end, I just decided that – you know what, I felt GOOD in that dress. I’m just going to go for it! And it’s just as well I did because now with baby Hawks on the way, it was able to be adjusted in a way that still suited my figure, didn’t swamp me and still gave me my great bum!

Suit – Joey’s search for an elusive mustard waistcoat ended up taking him all the way to Stumper & Fielding on Portobello Road, London. But it was totally worth it as we realised sometimes you have to search outside the box!

He helped with shoes and other various bits to complete the look, including recommending Karen and David from The Belfast Bow Company who made the bow ties and pocket squares bespoke for us.

Merlin’s BEST DOG SUIT was from Mutts and Marriage.

The Ceremony & Music

We didn’t have any specific music entertainment set out for the evening in the end. We had Bridgerton style strings covers of popular music playing during the reception. It was just easy background music but also nice for people to recognise modern music from.

We had an array of our favourite film/tv scores during the wedding breakfast, ranging from the Avengers score, to Shaun the Sheep, Toy Story, Star Wars Cantina Theme and even some of the music that plays down Main Street USA in Disney World. Again, just easy listening for all and if recognised, a little bit of fun. But mostly there to represent us!

Merlin the Ring Bearer – The absolute highlight of the day, apart from marrying Joey of course… Was Merlin delivering our rings to us during the ceremony. He trotted over like the fluffy polar bear he is, let Joey take the rings off his dapper jacket and then plonked himself on the train of my dress to go to sleep in front of the entire ceremony and stayed for the entirety of the vows!

You absolutely couldn’t have planned it if you wanted to. He’s a dog of his own accord and he was not going to let anyone else be the centre of attention that day. And I loved it!

Your Photographer

Rich Howman Photography

We felt in good hands the minute he walked in the door on our wedding day. We knew Rich would look after us, not just keeping us laughing but also keeping us feeling comfortable, especially physically with my little legs and baby bump walking around all day.

Of all the suppliers we have been in contact with over the course of planning the wedding, our interactions with Rich and his ‘amazing PA’ Rhi, have been not just the smoothest but also the most positive and enjoyable highlights.

He was such a superstar on the day that it would have felt wrong if we hadn’t asked him to sit down and share some firepit marshmallows with us at the end of the night. We feel like we’ve made real friends out of Rich and Rhi, not just suppliers and finding Rich was one of the best decisions we made.

We have total trust in Rich’s eye for photographic opportunity and we were so excited and thrilled to see the photos we knew he took, but also the ones we didn’t even know about.

The Styling & Decor

Flowers: Emma Norton and Pipley Flowers

THIS WAS A SUPER IMPORTANT PART OF OUR DAY! Being a florist, I was utterly spoilt for knowing what was available and what I could get my hands on. I think that’s really what inspired me to go as mad as I did.

I was really keen to get as many English Grown flowers as possible. We tried to keep things as eco as we could with the wedding and cutting down on transport emissions was a big consideration. You also get so much more variety and scrumptious flower choices by buying local and seasonal.

I really wanted to have a wildflower/meadowscape theme, colourful, bold but also unlike anything most people have ever seen. I wanted something that made everyone go “WOW” and I think we achieved that! Plenty of sunflowers and one particular garden rose variety called “Kensington Garden Rose” and that’s because that’s where Joey and I had our first date/kiss.

The only person I trusted to help was Emma Norton from Norton Flowers. She used to work at the florist I currently work at and has been doing her own freelance floristry for a few years now. She’s amazing at creating that loose style that I was after but also super savvy when it came to knowing English growers and what would be available to work with. And that’s how we came to use Pipley Flowers for half of our stock.

I made my own bouquet and bouquets for my bridesmaids. All the arrangements and installations were left to Emma and honestly, we were in utter awe on the day with how spectacularly she did with putting our visions into a reality.

Wedding stationery: Various Etsy sellers

Planner/stylist: The Little Wedding Helper

I am so glad we invested in are our Wedding Helper, Kirsten. It took so much of the edge off in the morning knowing someone else was doing the decorating and the setting up of all our visuals. There’s no way we’d have found the time or skills elsewhere to help set up our wedding. And Kirsten was brilliant from start to finish. We’d been in conversation for just over a year discussing themes, ideas, DIYs, etc. Nothing was ever too much hassle and it was never too late in the evening to send over an email asking for advice. She came up with so many ideas that shaped the day, kept me on track for my theme (it’s so easy to go off on a tangent when you’re scouting Pinterest religiously, but she really grounded me so nothing was too clashy.) She also came back the next day to collect all the bits she’d worked on (including the awesome badminton set which created such brilliant photo opportunities) and tidy things up. So having someone on hand to do all that work and to inspire the shape of the day, really was worth the investment.

Catering: Cleverchefs

We have a bit of a reputation for having a lot of afternoon teas! So it felt only right to have an afternoon tea for our wedding breakfast! It meant we could keep things colourful, casual and fun.

Cleverchefs were brilliant too, they customised their menu to suit us. My pregnancy cravings have had me after A LOT of sweet stuff recently and I can’t get enough of fruit tarts! I asked them if they’d be able to do that and they didn’t even hesitate. They also made the most AMAZING fresh lemonade EVER. It was like nectar to a hummingbird…I could live off that stuff.

My Sister, Mel baked our wedding cake. It had an Eton Mess top tier with a Pineapple and Coconut fruit cake on the bottom. Decorated with lots of organic and fresh flowers.

Garden Games

We wanted something fun and personal that would represent us as a couple so decided to have garden games outside. A lot of family members were unsure about the idea of it and felt people would be dressed up so wouldn’t want to play games.

It actually went down a real treat! Everyone got stuck in, relaxed and got to know each other. It was a real laugh seeing how competitively my 61 year old Mum was when playing badminton with a 12 year old! Our photographer Rich Howman got some brilliant photos that show just how much fun we all had.

The Honeymoon

We went on a short break in Cornwall before the wedding, because we needed the headspace to just sit back and relax before the big day. We’d done everything we could in terms of planning, so it was a good opportunity to breathe in the salty sea air and just sit and do nothing for a week!

Kindly, Joey’s parents paid for us to go away for a couple of nights to a nice hotel in Stratford Upon Avon, just to celebrate a couple more days away before we came back to reality. In Joey’s vows to me he’d added at the end “Come, I will have thee.” Which is one of my favourite characters quotes from the Shakespeare play Much Ado About Nothing.

Advice For Other Couples

Honestly, just don’t sweat the little stuff. At the end of the day, you’re marrying your best friend.
Give yourself plenty of time to enjoy the process. To make decisions and remake decisions and remake them again. And just enjoy wedding planning, because it can actually be really fun.

When you start wedding planning it can also be really overwhelming how much there is to decide on. From big things to the venue and the colour scheme to what food you want and napkins and table runners!

Try to hone in on one thing at a time. We started with our venue and built everything up around that because it laid the groundwork. It enabled us to get accurate quotes from suppliers, visualise actual setups in spaces and start making a plan.
