Laura and Alistair had the best proposal story which involved a surprise plane trip. They married on 12.12.12 in a church service followed by a reception at Manor House Country Hotel, Enniskillen.
They wanted their wedding to be a fun filled day for their friends and family. Laura and Alistair incorporated lace, pearls and chic navy hues into their day which worked beautifully.
Laura looked amazing in each of her 2 dresses and 2 pairs of shoes, i adore her elegant up do too. While Alistair donned a handseome hired suit grey suit and they both looked gorgeous.
Thanks so much to the fabulous Grace Photography for sharing her images with us today.
The Proposal…. Saturday 10th March 2012 Alistair told me to come down to his and we were going to meet friends and go for a picnic and a walk around Castle Archdale in Co. Fermanagh. So after buying loads of food for picnic AK (Alistair) decided to tell me that maybe it would be too wet for a picnic- it was spitting tiny bits of rain so I agreed and we went for a walk.
When we got to Castle Archdale, our friends ‘Cancelled’ and then as we walked around the lough- I noticed what I thought was a boat on the side of the lough, on closer observation I said to AK that’s a plane- His reply was’ Laura don’t be silly why would there be a plane of castle archdale. Then He convinced me to go down and talk to the pilot. The pilot then said sure, do you both want to get in… (I was thinking at this point- theres no way this man is letting us get up free, so reluctantly I Got in). We flew over large areas of Fermanagh and then AK said to the pilot, could you fly over my house and Farm. So in one of the fields I seen a large black banner saying LJP WILL YOU MARRY ME?!!
SHOCKED and tearful- I apparently didn’t give an answer… But eventually blurted out YES as I looked at my ring…(which AK turned around and give me)
The Vision for the day…. A fun filled day with friends and family. We wanted more than anything for everyone to enjoy our day and to make it one which everyone would remember with love. I love special times with family and friends and this is what we wanted.
The Planning process…. The planning commenced at the end of march when we booked our wedding date 12.12.12. so with less than 8 months to plan it. (It doesn’t need to take years if you don’t want to!!) Once my (Laura) Minister agreeded on the date, we confirmed our booking for our reception in Manor House Country Hotel, Killadeas, Enniskillen. We asked our bridemaids
and bestman, groomsmen, ushers, flowergirls and pageboy and the planning continued!!
Budget…. We decided not to set a budget. If we wanted it and it was within reason we got it! It’s the one day in both our lives that we wanted everything to be perfect! WE were careful to not to overspend and as a result pay for the day for years to come though.
The Venue… Service in Knockconny Baptist Church, Ballygawley. Co Tyrone and Reception in Manor House Country Hotel Enniskillen.
The Dress + Accessories….. Finding the dress was made easier that I knew I only wanted Lace. This meant that I only tried on lace dresses. I went to three bridal shops and bought two dresses. WHOPS!! The dress I wore to the service was purchased due to the fact that I loved the neckline but it was the back of the dress, that sold it to me. The second dress – I actually bought first but then fell more in love with the other dress and close to the wedding decided I would enquire could it be altered, so the dress was cut to calf length at front and tea length at the back. The lace sleeves in this dress- Matched the bridesmaid dresses.
I got my Birdcage veil and made by Ellie Irvine (Couturebridal NI). Ellie was brilliant in listening to how I felt I wanted the veil to look and think she was so relieved when I saw it and loved it.. Ellie also made my earrings and bracelet to match.
Due to the cold weather, I borrowed my cream fur from my good friend Julie, who couldn’t be with us on our special day and it was so special to be able to wear her fur that she also wore on her wedding day. The Green fur (which is my favourite colour) was purchased from Coast. The brooch was AK’s granny’s.
For my first dress I bought my shoes From next in the sale and got pearls and navy gemstones added to the platforms and heels and bought my personalised MRS KNIGHT 12.12.12 in navy to match.
My second Shoes matched the bridesmaids shoes and I got the lace added and pearls by Sarah Deering (SD Creations). Sarah did a great job with these shoes and they were perfect for my dancing shoes. The pearl necklace I wore to the reception was AK’s Granny, and it wasn’t until the reception that My new mother in law told me I was the third Mrs Knight to wear this on her
Groom’s attire… The suits were hired from Tom Read’s menwear, Irvinestown Co. Fermanagh. They all got Scrabble cufflinks with their initials. Made by CranberryLime.
The Readings + Music…. Our music, readings and singing were very special to us as these people are all our good friends and it was so special to have them take part at our wedding. We had two readings in the church, one by AK’s sister in law, Cherrie and by AK’s good friend William Brown.
Our music was by Helen Irvine who played piano, Diane Erskine on the flute. And soloists were by Rachel Brownlee and Jacqueline Orr.
Beautiful bridesmaids… My five bridesmaids and 2 flowergirls were attired in Lace also. The navy bridesmaids dresses were purchased online on BHS website, and they were altered with netting and the sashes altered and navy and pearl brooches attached. Bridesmaids accessories were made by oldest friend and one of my bridesmaids Lesley who makes and designs custom jewellery- LOVE LESLEY. I told her I would like lace headpieces, and she came up with unique navy bows and buttons and the necklaces and bracelets were complete with gold pine cones and lace with navy and pearls. PERFECT for the occasion.
Flowergirl dresses were Jenny Packham dresses from Debenhams. Beautiful lace dresses which the neckline was similar to my own.
The Flowers… Made by Floral Creatif. Charlene who runs it, seems to me to be one of the most talented florists I know (however I know im probably a bit bias). I went to see Charlene and brought a few ideas and pictures.. My final words to Charlene were I like lace, pearls, pine cones, jip and if you can get a nice navy flower to match the bridesmaids dresses and just look at the
The Cake… Made by my very talented Sister in Law, Victoria Patterson, who made us our wedding cake and cupcakes as our wedding present. My aunt Mary made us the fruit cake also for our wedding present.
The custom Made cakestand was made by Sweetheart Pottery (Which I wanted before we even got engaged- such talent), engraved with the verse 1st Corinthians 13 v 4- 8 Love Is patient, love is Kind. Love Never Fails.
Your Photographer… The very talented and amazing Grace from Grace Photography.. Grace really captured our day perfectly. There was plently of small details that to many may mean very little but to us they meant a lot, Grace missed NONE of these details and cant wait to sit down and pick our images for our album and see the final product. Grace was always at the end of the phone- to pick up a photo and another idea, she was given quite a few requests and lists of photos and also props and NEVER did she complain or forget any! Thanks so much to her for all her hard work.. Such a pleasure to work with, same can be said for cinematic tide, who took our wedding flim.
The Details + Decor… When we set our date, AK said to me, Laura you go plan the wedding and I’ll just turn up!! So when the bridesmaids dresses were purchased and my own dress purchased, It was time to sort the invitations. These were made by a local printing firm CR Print, they again couldn’t have been more helpful and we were both so pleased with all the final products. The wedding invites were polka dot print with an engagement photo of us, so we carried this theme through into parts of the wedding. My mummy wore a blue dress to tone in with the bridesmaids and the top of the dress had polka dot print.
We wanted a close intimate church service, as this was very important to us, we decided on our songs and readings very quickly. Our orders of service tied in with the invitations, they were square and had a tissue inside for ‘happy tears’. The details in the church were that each window had a small display. The windows that opened had navy wreaths with ivory lace and pearls and then every other window had a display with large pinecones, lace and navy fabric and smaller pinecones- these were put together by my very talented friend Rachey.. At the front of the church we had a Christmas tree, however I didn’t want a ‘standard’ Christmas tree so again the wonderful Floral Creatif- came up with the wooden tree with the Cotton Flower.. Was amazing and kept the whole wooden and rustic look going through the whole wedding. In the centre Aisle of the church we had AK’s sister in law Cherrie’s lanterns (Thanks again) which were perfect also. I purchased ivory candles and put navy and ivory lace around the bottom of them and then Rachel tied large navy bows to the top of them.
After the church service, we had tea and scones and many yummy buns. One of my bridesmaids Rozi made most of the buns for this part of the service (about 230 buns)- She is very talented indeed and we (and our guests) are very thankful for these yummy buns. The hall was decorated with pictures of our mummy’s and daddy’s wedding day and also our grandparents. These were made onto fabric and attached to hoops. These were custom made by Leanne (HeavensTeapary), This was an idea I had had for a long time, and was SO SO pleased when I contacted Leanne and nothing was too much trouble for her!
Our guests were served their scones and buns on willow tree cake stands (these colours matched the navy and ivory theme) and these were all made to order by another of my talented bridesmaids susan (My Grandfather’s clock). Susan made all these cake stands and candles in china cups to match stamped with Alistair and Laura 12.12.12, can I say a special thanks to Susan as she hunted high and low for enough willow tree plates to make these cake stands possible and nothing was too much trouble for her- THANKS again super sue.
The Honeymoon… We went on a caribeaan cruise for 1 week. As I wanted to be home for our First Christmas as Mr and Mrs Knight. We started our cruise in Miami and then ported at Gran Keyman, Jamicia and Haiti. Defintly was a holiday of a lifetime.
Memorable moments… The engagement. Something we both will never forget. The morning of the wedding, getting ready in my house with people I love near me, having a good old laugh… Alistair hiring the VW Camper van to drive me from the church to the reception, this was lovely and very special.
Advice for other couples… Just enjoy your day, the run up to your special day, the fun moments picking and choosing all the
details and remember to thank the people and give credit to the people who have made your day possible!! Don’t feel you have to compare yourself to other weddings, everyone is different as a person and we all have interests in different things, that doesn’t make us different, when we choose to marry the one we love WE shouldn’t feel pressured into spending loads of money. Have and do what you both want to do, BUT ENJOY IT ALL!!!
