Madeleine Bride, Millinery + Accessories ~ In the Hotseat

I am so passionate about independent UK businesses, especially those owned by talented creatives such as Madeleine. Madeleine Bride is a millinery company especially for brides, creating the most unqiue and special designs. I simply adore these designs and want to go try some on right now ;-) hehe. With a real range to suit any taste, Madeleine Bride is sure to have something perfect for your wedding day look…..

{w} Hi Madeleine, could you firstly tell {www} readers a little bit about you?

My name is Madeleine, I am 27 and I am a milliner. I have always loved designing and have just launched Madeleine Bride, a collection of handcrafted vintage inspired Bridal headpieces & veils which I show alongside my occasionwear collection of hats & headpieces, Madeleine Millinery.

{w} What do you love/dislike about your job?

I really love the designing and making aspect of my job – I get to sit and create all day! I particularly enjoy designing bridal and I only design pieces that I would love to wear myself! Designing bespoke pieces for brides is very exciting and it is fantastic to see people wearing my pieces!

{w} How did you get into fashion  and into the wedding industry?

I originally trained in fashion & textile design and I still create screenprinted textiles alongside my millinery designs. When I graduated I worked as an embroidery & print designer for womenswear in London. I then moved and worked as a milliner creating hats, headpieces & veils for a design company. After 4 years of working for someone else I decided that I wanted to design pieces under my name & start my own business.

{w} What do you aim to achieve for your clients?

I want my clients to absolutely fall in love with my bridal pieces – each piece is handmade to the higest standard using the best materials. Brides can order directly from the collection  but I also really love designing bespoke pieces or cutomising the designs to create something unique for a bride. I am currently working on a full length bespoke veil for a bride who is getting married at Christmas and it is totally unique to her – I am recreating the flowers from her bouquet in silk to decorate the veil.

{w} What style is your work?

My bridal pieces are quite bohemian ad nostalgic. When designing I was inspired by my travels to America last year – hazy summer days spent in deserts & fields along Route 66. I wanted the collection to have a 1960s/ 70s bohemian feel and used original vintage lace fom the 1960s and researched glamourous icons from that era including Jackie O, Bianca Jagger & Stevie Nicks. I also took inspiration from the 1920s & the Art Deco period alongside other historical eras. It’s a move away from the tiara princess look and designed for brides that want high quality handcrafted pieces that are elegant and unique with a hint of bohemia.

{w} What materials do you use?

I only use the finest materials; silks, organzas, tulles, vintage lace, freshwater pearls & Swarovski crystals. I can also incorporate fabrics or embellishments from a wedding dress, or to match a piece of jewellery to make a completely bespoke piece.

{w} Could you tell us some information about your packages/prices?

My prices start from £110. As every piece is handmade to order I can make any design in any colour – in fact I specialise in colour matching through hand dyeing and can also create pieces for bridesmaids to co-ordinate. The price of bespoke pieces can vary and all prices include a beautiful hat box.

{w} Do you have any tips for couples in selecting their wedding accessories?

I think you need to follow your heart and do what feels right for you as a couple. There is so much out there it is easy to be swayed but always remember your individual personality. For millinery make sure you wear something that you feel comfortable in & try to wear the headpiece or veil a few times before the wedding so you feel confident wearing it. Think about how you will have your hair – you ca have bespoke pieces made to fit with your hairstyle. Try on as many different styles – you may be surprised at what styles suit you!

{w} How can we get in touch with you?
