Magenta Pom Poms + Heart Garlands English Rose Wedding

I adore this wedding’s beautiful reception and decor, its romantic and dream like…. with twinkling lights and a hot pink theme.

Elle and Craig wanted to combine an English Rose feel to their day with the laid back vibe of Australia to capture both their backgrounds. This wedding is not only super pretty but has a real emotional yet fun feel to the day.

Thanks so much to the amazing London based wedding photographer Jay Rowden Photography for sharing his work today, here is what he had to say about the day;

“As I drove down the M4 bound for Wiltshire my mind raced – I wondered what my day would bring.

According to the bride and groom, Elle + Craig, the forecast looked ominous.

The further I drove West, the more the rain came down. By the time I crossed the Berkshire/Wiltshire border, the rain was torrential and it seemed to be getting heavier and heavier.

More rain was on it’s way according to the Met Office.

In my 2.5 years of shooting weddings I’d only had one wedding in all that time that had delivered rain all day and it really did come down in buckets ALL DAY.

I sincerely hoped the forecasters were mistaken this time round.

As if by magic, the rain came and went.

In fact by the time Elle left her Mum’s house for the 40 second walk across the road to the church in Kintbury, the sun was kind enough to make a timely appearance.

Things were looking up.

The service beautifully combined both Elle + Craig’s wedding and their son Jetton’s christening.

A huge number of Craig’s family had flown in from antipodes to help celebrate the day.

(Having spent three years in Australia and as a proud Aussie national myself, I’ve always had something of a soft spot for the country and it’s fabulous citizens.)

As we poured out of the church, so did the heavens.

Those of us without umbrellas took shelter under the canopy of the trees whilst the sensible folk had rain protection!

Fortunately the rain departed as quickly as it had arrived and by mid afternoon the sun came out with a vengeance and we had a beautifully relaxed afternoon in the grounds of Rockley Manor supping champagne and scoffing canopes.

Hey, I love a London wedding but every time I leave the Old Smoke for a country wedding, I find myself totally and utterly enchanted by our glorious British countryside and I’m sure our antipodean friends were in awe of its beauty too.

Sheep bleated to their hearts content in the nearby fields and swallows treated us to a beautiful display and I felt very fortunate to have been there for a very lovely couple.”

Names… Elle and Craig

Wedding Date…. 16th July 2011

The Proposal…. Completely out of the blue Craig proposed on our Easter holiday, 2010 at Mount Coot-tha lookout in Brisbane, Australia.  We were heading home after dinner and movie and we took a detour to see the city lights at night. He surprised me with an amazing diamond orange sapphire and ruby ring which he designed himself with jewellery designer Amanda Mansell.  It was completely unexpected, but totally brilliant!

The Vision for the day…. Our vision was to combine a traditional English rose with a laidback Australian in the form of a chilled out country garden party.  Many of Craig’s family and our friends had flown over from Australia and we wanted to reflect a quintessential English wedding with a twist!

Most of all we wanted our close friends and family to have a fantastic time and made sure that the food was amazing by choosing an absolutely fabulous local caterer Annie at ‘Revel in Food’.  Annie’s food was totally unforgettable and without a doubt the best wedding food we have ever tasted.

We also sourced all the wine and made sure the flavours went with all the food served throughout the day. It was also very important to us that everyone had more then enough to drink!

The Planning process…. The planning process was HUGE! Our DIY wedding involved planning everything ourselves from the layout of tables in CAD to the creation of pretty pink pom-poms.

The Venue… We were married in a beautiful church in Berkshire.  The church is really close to my Mum’s house so it was just perfect.

Afterwards we had our reception at Rockley Manor in Marlborough in Wiltshire.  The house is a Grade II listed manor house dating from the eighteenth century.  It has amazing gardens which feel a little bit like ‘rooms’ and the house itself provided an amazing backdrop to our country garden reception.

We filled each space with a different theme focused around food and music.  For the first part of our reception in the walled Secret Garden ‘Jetton’s ‘Tea Party’ was served with chilled out jazz.  Annie prepared some amazing sweet canapés and even designed little ‘jet cakes’.  Everyone then moved towards ‘The Green’ for the evening reception and listened to Craig’s brother play the didgeridoo together with the DJ who also played acoustic guitar with his glamorous girlfriend.  In a break from tradition we decided to have our speeches in the portico which were a lot of fun!

The Dress + Accessories….. My lace dress was by Pronovias and I designed the bolero with the help of Julia at ‘Perfect Day Bridal’ in Bradford upon Avon.

The simple pearl hair accessory was from ‘Tantrum and Tiaras’ and my ‘bling’ necklace from Mikey at Topshop.  Very useful and perfect height nude shoes were from Russell and Bromley.  My hairdresser Lee did a fantastic job on my hair and bought with him a good drop of humour throughout the heavy rain storm whilst we were all getting ready.

I did my own makeup and had a trial at MAC.

Finding the dress…. I shopped around quite a bit and worked out that if I bought my dress from outside of London I could save quite a bit of money.  Also I wanted to support as many local companies as I could through the process of having our wedding in Wiltshire.

Groom’s attire… Craig wore his father’s vintage dinner suit and skinny white tie. His suit was originally his father’s from the 1970s with a great shawl collar. Craig’s Ben Sherman dinner suit was worn by his brother and his 10 year old nephew wore his Great Granddad’s tails.

The Readings + Music…. We chose 2 readings which felt special to us and were read out by my close friends.  My wonderful friend Alison sang the Bob Dylan classic ‘To make you feel my Love’ which was totally amazing and completely blew everyone’s socks off in the church.  We combined our wedding service with the christening of our 21 month old little boy, Jetton Hoxton Becconsall.  Craig’s Dad did a lovely reading for Jetton.

Beautiful bridesmaids and fabulous Best Man…. My totally gorgeous bridesmaids, Anna, Els and Amanda were just amazing! They had organised the most special ‘Dresses and Heels’ hen which left me completely lost for words.

I don’t think I’ll ever forget the look on their faces on the eve of the wedding when I issued the ‘wedding schedule’ and seating plan! A hilarious moment!

But I would like to thank you for all their support and energy, I love them all very much!  And a big thank you to dazzling Ruby, Craig’s niece, who looked so fabulous in her magenta dress.

Craig’s Best Man, Dominic was a complete hero and total super star! He flew all the way over from Australia leaving his wife and little girl at home and was such an amazing support.  I’m not sure we would have made it through the last week leading up to the wedding without him!

The Flowers… I chose Kate from ‘Hedge Rose’ in Marlborough to create the flowers for our wedding. Solid block magenta of course! She has a wonderful eye for detail and created absolutely stunning arrangements.

The Cake… My mum organised a very simple and elegant 3 tiered white iced cake with magenta ribbons and David Austin roses on top from Laura at Cocochoux.

Your Photographer…. We met our photographer after quite a long search but instantly knew Jay was our man. We just clicked! He was totally relaxed, completely open and had a fresh perspective which we both just loved.  Choosing a good photographer is one of the most important decisions you make along the ‘wedding journey’ and we are totally delighted that we found him.

The Details + Decor…. I love magenta and wanted lots of magenta accents throughout the day as well as black and white.

As part of our design for the invites I created cartoon faces for Craig, Jetton and I and we used these faces on everything from the, save the date, Order of Service, seating plan for the Wedding Breakfast to an ‘OK’ and ‘Hello’ photomontages all added to establish a fun character.  I created 30 different faces each with different party hats which became table place cards.

Designing all the graphics and decorating the hall with pink pom-poms, home made butterflies and love hearts garlands, and not forgetting the retro plastic pink 1950s flamingos imported from the US, was a lot of fun.  Craig and I had a few late nights working on all of these personal touches but it was completely worth it! We couldn’t have done it without the help from some of our fantastic friends making everything happen!

The Honeymoon…. Umbria, Rome and Sardinia. Totally special and completely unforgettable.

Memorable moments… All of it of course !
