Ready to start the week with a bang? I sure am.
WWW readers Jakob and Charlotte tied the knot on the 18th July 2015 at The Inn at Whitewell in Lancashire. Jakob is Danish and the couple live in Denmark, so their wedding had a fusion of traditions to represent them both.
They envisioned a pastel country fair wedding, which was held in the prettiest marquee filled with DIY touches. I love the ribbon seating plan and the gorgeous flower centrepieces too. The bridesmaids wore sweet vintage style prom dresses and had peony bouquets to complete their look. Let’s just talk about that portrait above shall we? Smoke bombs and balloons. YES.
Charlotte wore a divine lace gown with sparkly belt while Jakob donned a dapper suit with blue and white polka dot tie. Gorgeous.
Thanks so much to Cassandra Lane for sharing these utterly wonderful images today.
THE PROPOSAL | My husband is Danish and we live in Denmark and of a morning we have special morning rolls from the baker. On the morning of the proposal I went out to fetch our breakfast and when I came back Jake was upstairs remodelling our guest bedroom and was using a power saw. After a few minutes I heard a loud bang and what sounded like a scream. I ran upstairs and when I went into the bedroom Jake was on the floor holding his hand which was covered in blood. On my way to getting a towel I realised the blood looked a lot like tomato sauce and when I turned around he was on one knee asking me to marry him. The shock was so tremendous, he had to ask twice!
THE VISION | A relaxed country fair, with a mix of pastel colours.
THE PLANNING PROCESS | We were planning over two years which mostly consisted of us finding pictures online and making a virtual mood board.
BUDGET | 12,000
THE VENUE | The Inn at Whitewell is a relaxed, old country inn in the middle of the forest of Bowland. The staff were so friendly and the views stunning from every angle. The interior is so quirky and typical old English. It’s an intimate location and has such a family feel to it. Plus the food is incredible!
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | My dress was everything I wanted. It had a relaxed feel about it and with the combination of the romantic skirt and my little bit of sparkle added by the belt and headpiece I felt like a princess.
FINDING THE DRESS | I did go through a few ball gown moments when I was trying wedding dresses on was almost swayed from my original idea because I think there is something so romantic about the fuller dresses. We knew though that we wanted to have our pictures in the countryside at the back of the inn which meant going down a small path and over the stepping stones crossing the river, which would have been nearly impossible in a ball gown! When I tried my dress on and then the girls added the veil it just felt perfect, I couldn’t see one thing to change!
GROOM’S ATTIRE | Jake isn’t a very formal kind of a guy so he wanted to feel comfortable and relaxed. He chose the suits with the hope that the boys would get to wear them again. His tie was blue with white polka dots and he was adamant from the beginning that he wanted a blue ties because it is his favourite colour. All of the boys had super hero socks on for a special little something extra, Jake got Thor so he could feel like more of a Viking!
THE READINGS & MUSIC | We started the ceremony with me walking down the aisle to ‘Thinking Out Loud’ and had four songs throughout. We arranged them so the tempo of the songs picked up as the ceremony went on, ending with us walking out to Florence and the Machines version of ‘You’ve Got The Love’. We incorporated old poems with some modern, we had a friend read the Carrie Bradshaw wedding poem and our mums read an English version and Danish translation of an extract from Jane Eyre.
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I wanted my bridesmaids to reflect the colour theme so they were each in a different colour of the same dress. We thought the dresses reflected the romantic country theme and were such good quality, each was made to measure. They were told they needed to have their hair up and a pair of wellies but it was their decision how they wanted their hair and which wellies they had.
THE FLOWERS | The main brief for the flowers was we wanted it to look like we had gone out into a country field and picked an arrangement of wild flowers and arranged them in our grandmothers’ old vases. The florist nailed it! I chose peonies for the girls because they are my favourite flowers and roses are Jakes so the boys had them.
THE CAKE | Each tier of our cake was a different flavour, we had a chocolate sponge with chocolate filling, Victoria sponge with raspberry and buttercream filling and a red velvet tier. We also made a few Danish cakes which are called lagekager.
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | We met with Cass prior to the wedding and we really enjoyed meeting her. On the day she melted into the background and when we got the photos they were everything we hoped for. They were colourful, relaxed and full of life and love.
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | We wanted to do a few DIY projects to add a personal touch. In the end we ended up making the seating char, favours, order of services and table numbers, as well as a few other bits and bobs.
THE HONEYMOON | We didn’t have a honeymoon, I was actually 3 months pregnant when we got married. So instead we are having a babymoon and taking my parents to babysit!
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The whole day was so memorable, it’s hard to pick a few. My dad walking me down the aisle and seeing Jake for the first time. Getting the surprise Danish first dance and the traditional sock cutting for the groom. The speeches, hearing all of the wonderful words was so touching. The night time party was just a joy, relaxed and a huge family party which was exactly what we wanted.
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Relax and try to remember the purpose for the wedding, you and him! Enjoy each other on the day!
