Oh what a pleasure it is to be sharing Katie and Ryan’s romantic wedding today. They held their celebrations in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on the 21st April 2018. They chose the city they met and live in to host their wedding and even paid a visit to the very coffee shop where they shared their first date, for portraits on their wedding day. How lovely is that? The romance doesn’t end there though as these two had an emotional first look before their greenhouse wedding ceremony at Downtown Market. All the feels.
I have to say the greenhouse really did look spectacular and gave a beautiful botanical vibe to their day, which also flowed into the décor, with a monochrome scheme to the details and an abundance of greenery throughout. I especially love Katie’s foliage bouquet teamed with her stunning lace gown. Ryan and his groomsmen too looked very dapper as did the bridesmaids in their pretty frocks. Take in all the inspirational touches, such as the leaf confetti, perspex signage and festoon lighting folks. Huge thanks goes to Jean Smith Photography for sharing with us these truly beautiful captures.
Ryan and I met in Grand Rapids and have each called GR home for over 10 years. It was important for us to get married in the city that brought us together and has been such a large part of our story.
Our first date was at The Sparrows Coffee & Tea & Newsstand, where we took pictures on our wedding day. We drank coffee, chatted for hours, and instantly felt connected. We can both be somewhat high-strung and nervous, so the atmosphere at The Sparrows was a perfect, relaxing, chill vibe that allowed us to open up and get to know each other well right off the bat.
Ryan and I focus a lot of our energy on making each other better, lifting each other up, and supporting one another’s dreams. We’re both high-achievers and we compliment each other in a way that allows us to not only reach, but exceed our goals. My weaknesses are Ryan’s strengths and vice-versa.
As ambitious, driven, and focused as we can be, Ryan and I are absolutely goofballs at heart. We reached a point early on in our relationship where we were comfortable enough with each other to be completely silly and let loose. Ryan is one of the funniest humans I know and we spend the majority of our days laughing. Shortly after we got married, Ryan and I brought a frenchie named Dobby into our family and, if you know anything about the French Bulldog personality, you won’t be shocked to hear that he’s the absolute perfect addition to this quirky, goofy, fun life we’ve been lucky enough to build together.
Life with Ryan is joyful, sweet, and is always an adventure and the moment we vowed to spend our lives together will always be my most cherished memory. Knowing that Ryan will be by my side no matter where life takes us is the best and most unexpected outcome I could have imagined from that first date at the little Grand Rapids coffee shop on Wealthy.
