I present to you today, SMALLSFEST, a super gorgeous festival wedding complete with camping, rave and tipi tents hosted over a weekend. Amaze.
Nicole and Chris were hitched on the 16th July 2016 and held their reception at North Riding Field at Waddow Hall. The setting was just perfect for their weekend extravaganza, which included live music, quirky bar, fire performer and festival body art to entertain and delight in equal measure. It looked like everyone had a right old jolly good time, from the 10 perfectly mismatched bridesmaids to the groomsmen in braces and bow ties and even the little ones.
There were gorgeous florals in yellow and white tied perfectly with navy blue ribbon, home made pin wheel centrepieces and a giant letter sign too. Nicole looked so stunning in her embellished gown with veil and boho forehead band hair accessory. While Chris went for a wool jacket, chinos and bow tie combo, so very stylish.
Thanks goes to Petal and Blush Artistry for sharing these marvellous images with us.
THE PROPOSAL | The White Isle ~ Ibiza. We took some beers in a bag down to the sea front to watch the sunset. Chris went into the bag in front of me and said “will you swap this?” I said to him, “I think there’s another fruit cider in the bag lover” and to my absolute shock he said… “No, will you swap this for your hand in marriage?” It was only then I realised he was actually on one knee and I just burst into tears. After a while he said, “Well is that a yes?” and I just squealed “Yessss!”
THE VISION | SMALLSFEST; a tipi/festival/rave/camping mash up! We’re both very sociable people, blessed with a great circle of friends and family. We didn’t want something that would be over in just a day (especially when weddings cost so much money) so we opted for a weekend event with our nearest and dearest instead. Calypso food, live music acts, fire performers, tents and festival body art were all part of the big day(s).
THE PLANNING PROCESS | Over 2 years in the making, most done in the last few months. We both work quite a lot so when my wedding planner friend Serena @ Perfect Match Wedding Planning said she’ll take over and keep everything running smoothly I was over the moon and she really did the most fabulous of jobs.
BUDGET | We’d envisioned spending £16,000 but spent just under £23,000. It became more about having exactly what we wanted, rather than the cost. I know a lot of families contribute massively to a wedding but we didn’t have that luxury. It was a graft to get every penny together but we both said afterwards it was worth it and we wouldn’t change it for the world.
THE VENUE | Big Chief Tipis put up their tipi tents on the North Riding field at Waddow Hall. We hired all the fields and the tented village so that we were the only people on site.
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | My mum (Coral) bought all the Bride’s things from from Orchid Designs in Clitheroe and they redesigned the front to make it exactly what I wanted. I also got my Swarovski headpiece and jewellery from them too.
FINDING THE DRESS | I looked for plenty of inspiration online, visited just a handful of shops and tried on just three dresses. I knew what I wanted, which I think made the whole search quite easy.
GROOM’S ATTIRE | Chris went all over for the right bits and pieces. He started trying suits on from your average wedding style shops but it just wasn’t him. He ended up with shirt and pants from Hugo Boss, a waistcoat from Next, a blazer from Zara and shoes from Ted Baker.
THE READINGS & MUSIC | “I Wanna Be Yours” by John Cooper Clarke – it said exactly what I wanted to say to Chris and my cousins (Leah and Faye) learnt and read it perfectly. We’re massive music lovers and wanted live music throughout the event. This started with a Viola musician in church (Laura Feeney) and sets from acoustic artist Jade, Boomin live band and an ace set from Christian @ iDJ Promotions.
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had 10, if you go large be prepared for how many people shout that number back at you in amazement… “TEN?!?” Stephanie (MOH), Lynsey (CB), Ebony, Tia, Katie, Alexandra, Chelsey, Amy, Rebecca and Hayley. They’re all so special to me for such different reasons. As cheesy as it sounds, I wouldn’t have wanted to take a single step without them.
THE FLOWERS | Chris’ sister Laura has her own floristry business, The Pink Camellia. She did an absolutely wonderful job of fitting in with the festival style and making up so many wonderful creations. My flower garland for the evening was a particular favourite.
THE CAKE | Each of my bridesmaids made their own cake and these were meant to be judged as part of the day. They put so much love and thought into them we were completely bowled over by the effort. The problem was, there was so much was going on that we didn’t halt the celebrations for judging and had to pick a winner the next day! The winner won £50 Ticketmaster and the runners up, bottles of Champagne and Prosecco, making it a much cheaper alternative to buying your average three tier and a lot more creative!
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Natasha @ Petal & Blush Artistry snapped our wedding and she was exactly what we wanted in a photographer. It was so important for us that she documented all the fun and SMALLSFEST events without being intrusive. We really hardly knew she was there yet Natasha still managed to capture perfectly all the love we feel for each other and every single one of our guests. She made us a bespoke package so that we had exactly what we wanted and was so accommodating when we wanted to add more shots. Her attention to detail in the edit is also super!
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | I made musical pinwheels, mini tipis, decorated jars and the like for our centrepieces and my Chief Bridesmaid Lynsey leant me copious amounts of stuff from her wedding which was a huge help. My Aunty Sarah made all the bunting and flags and artist Lucy Wray made us huge SMALLSFEST letters and directional signs which gave the place that festival vibe. We also had milk kits filled with flowers, a nod to Chris’ farming background. Lanterns hung inside the tent and wooden tables and benches added a rustic feel.
THE HONEYMOON | We mini-mooned in Barcelona and are heading to Jamaica for our honeymoon at a later date.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Our videographer Mikey Davies @ Flexxed captured our memorable SMALLSFEST moments. We were stunned to find out it had over 8,000 views in just a few days but when you see the quality of the video you can understand why. He’s a great guy with bags of talent, definitely check him out. I only wish I’d had him all night to capture the fireshow, festival MUA, bands and Ibiza rave hour!
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Take no advice but each other’s; it’s your day, make it what you wish and enjoy every second!
