Having got together at Glastonbury festival, Laura and John used the event as inspiration for their wedding. They hosted the celebrations in the Father of the Bride’s garden, complete with festival flags and a stunning boho feel marquee.
Laura wore an elegant Temperley gown while John donned a floral tie with his blue suit. They looked gorgeous. I adore the classic red convertible, the natural style blooms and thoughtful touches at the reception.
Many thanks to Tommy Reynolds for sharing these marvellous images with us.
THE PROPOSAL | In a private villa in Bentota, Sri Lanka during a week’s touring holiday.
THE VISION | We wanted a wedding in my dad’s beautiful garden in Kent, surrounded by all of our friends and hoped for a great party followed by a Hog roast the following day.
THE PLANNING PROCESS | We started with the big things e.g. deciding on a marquee and getting the house licensed so we could have the ceremony in the garden. I thought once the big things were planned there wouldn’t be too much else to do but in reality all the small things took just as long and it was still a mad panic in the final few weeks!
THE VENUE | Marquee in Father of the Bride’s garden.
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Dress: Augustina by Alice Temperley.
Accessories: Headpiece, necklace, earrings and parasol from Gillian Million, Teddington. Pearl bracelet – my nan’s.
Shoes: Eva by Emmy London.
FINDING THE DRESS | I had seen a University friend get married the year before me in my perfect dress and luckily when I got in touch with her to find out where it was from she was selling it. It was in perfect condition and only needed the slightest alteration. I could never have afforded it full price so I was extremely happy!
GROOM’S ATTIRE | Suit from Mark Wallace. Ties and pocket squares from Mrs Bow Tie. Cufflinks from Not on the High Street. Shoes from Edward Green, London.
THE READINGS & MUSIC | Readings: “Your Personal Penguin” by Sandra Boynton; ‘The Little Yellow Leaf” by Carin Berger.
Music: “She’s Electric” by Oasis; “The Way You Make Me Feel” by Michael Jackson.
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had three of my best friends as bridesmaids and my three little sisters as flower girls. The bridesmaid dresses were from Whistles and the flower girls were from John Lewis and Monsoon.
THE FLOWERS | I used Distinctly Floral who were recommended to me by one of my bridesmaids who had used them for her wedding. Amanda was absolutely magnificent and completely understood all of my ideas, going above and beyond what I ever hoped for.
THE CAKE | We had a three tiered cake of cheese made by the caterers.
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Tommy Reynolds. I met Tommy whilst we were both on a charity trip to Sri Lanka called Take Heart Mercy Mission the week before I got engaged. I was so impressed with his photographs of the trip that I asked him to be our wedding photographer and videographer. We absolutely loved the photos and the video was just incredible and will cherish the memories he created for us for ever.
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | I wasn’t originally planning on a theme for the wedding but myself and John had got together at Glastonbury, one of our favourite places in the world, so I had the idea of creating GIBBONSCALLY in the style of GLASTONBURY for the invite and things evolved from there. John made the GIBBONSCALLY sign and I sourced the material. I was so pleased with the material that we used it as the tablecloths. The flags were an extravagance but totally worth it as they transformed the garden and looked spectacular.
THE HONEYMOON | We spent a week in the Amalfi Coast of Italy, chilling out by the pool, visiting local towns and indulging in fine dining.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | We both felt the two most magical moments of the day were walking out after the ceremony to a shower of confetti and champagne and then walking into the marquee seeing all of our friends and family’s smiling faces.
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Definitely get a video! We cry every time we watch the speeches and can relive the day again and again.
