There is much to love about this modern city wedding, which is full of style and personality. Let me share why.
Prajesh and Angela were married on the 24th March 2016 at Morden Hall in London. The venue is really versatile, with it’s light and airy space and dark wooden floors, just perfect for a DIY celebration like Prajesh and Angela’s. They really wanted to make their mark and Angela designed and laid out the stunning eucalyptus decorations, complete with candles, lanterns and gold details. The golden oyster shell place cards really caught my eye and the personalised mug favours were a brilliant idea. There was also a hand baked cake covered in succulents, hand stitched bridesmaids dresses in red and the maids made their own bouquets. So so lovely.
Angela wore two show stopping gowns, the first a layered Oscar de la Renta number and the second a beautifully embellished dress by Needle and Thread, both equally gorgeous but so different too. She looked incredible! Prajesh meanwhile chose a classic black tuxedo with a bow tie for a really sharp style. You’re going to adore these images folks.
THE PROPOSAL | Praj planned a romantic all- day birthday surprise which culminated into the sweetest proposal! It started with an early breakfast in London at sunrise, followed by single red roses throughout the day, a candlelit staircase and an epic birthday cake! After all the goodies, he got down on one knee and proposed before whisking me off to watch the theatre in the West End. It was the most amazing birthday and proposal ever!
THE VISION | Natural, classic elegance with lots of personal, DIY touches.
THE PLANNING PROCESS | We didn’t have much time to to and fro on decision-making so the planning process was surprisingly straight forward! However, we did have a few incredible friends on hand which helped immensely! Most of the details came down to us getting our arts and crafts skills out! It was great fun and made the process even more heartfelt and very personal!
The DIY elements were throughout from the reception tables to the bridesmaid bouquets and everything else in between! We were really hands on and determined to make it feel handmade and personalised which we managed to achieve with the help of our friends and family.
THE VENUE | Morden Hall, London.
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Wedding dress: Oscar de la Renta, 92e25 modified with added organza lace sleeves.
Evening dress: Needle and Thread.
Veil: Twigs and Honey (modified with added appliqué lace details).
Hairpiece: What Katy Did Next.
Shoes: Ted Baker (ceremony) and Valentino rockstud (reception).
FINDING THE DRESS | Praj is a true romantic and I knew he would want me to channel my “inner princess” for the day, but my usual style is quite understated and subtle.
For our wedding day I wanted to feel completely comfortable in myself, while surprising him with extra unexpected romanticism! After much online hunting through different styles and a few in store sessions I couldn’t find a dress I liked as much as the Oscar de la Renta gown. I loved that the silhouette was a classic A-line but the tiered ruffles added romance, whimsy and texture. My aunt added some organza sleeves for some extra coverage and it was perfect! I’m so glad I stepped outside my comfort zone – when else would I wear a dress like that again?!
I got back to my more predictable style with the beautifully embellished Needle and Thread evening dress.
GROOM’S ATTIRE | Praj opted for a classic black tuxedo and accessorised with a bow tie and black dress shirt studs. His suit was by Without Prejudice and shoes by Dune.
THE READINGS & MUSIC | Colossians 3:12-19. Music: Church musicians/friends.
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | My Auntie Millie made bespoke dresses to reflect each of the bridesmaids’ individual styles – the final products turned out beautifully! My bridesmaids each accessorised as they wished and wore shoes of their own choice but I also had different style floral headpieces for each of them created by The Floral Hall florists to add a more rustic look.
THE FLOWERS | Headpieces ( The Floral Hall, Norwood).
Bride’s bouquet: Galton Flowers.
Bridesmaids’ bouquets and ceremony/reception flowers: (sourced and arranged ourselves and/or friends and family) The New Covent Garden Flower Market.
THE CAKE | Emma Nguyen (One of my wonderful bridesmaids!).
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Terry Li.
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | I designed and laid out the tables with runners of eucalyptus leaves and foliage as well as gold candlesticks, lanterns and any bits and bobs we’d faux-gilded over the weeks with the use of gold spray! We also handmade the botanical seating plan, personalised mug favours and hand-written, golden oyster shell place cards, as well as our letter box for gifts and cards. My little brother, was amazing and also helped immensely by baking and packaging 100 delicious chocolate chip cookies as late-night snacks for our guests to enjoy at the reception! My bridesmaids were wonderful and hand tied their bouquets using flowers I sourced from New Covent Garden flower market the previous morning and one of my wonderful bridesmaids, went over and beyond by making our gorgeous succulent-clad wedding cake as well as the beautiful menu signs!
THE HONEYMOON | Florence, Italy – stunning!
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The entire day was more than either of us could have asked or even hoped for! It was a fun-filled, joyous celebration held for and with our closest family and the emotions of the day were of unity and overwhelming happiness!
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Get creative! It’s so satisfying seeing the joy your hand crafted details bring! (And knowing they are truly ‘one of a kind’ is a bonus!) Also, try and be as adaptable as possible- it will make for a lot less stress if your ideas and visions for the day are fluid; Many of our ideas evolved from one concept into something much greater because we weren’t so fixed on what the end outcome had to look like.
