It’s all about the fun factor today courtesy of Pete and Marianne and their awesome wedding celebrations. They were married on the 10th June 2018 at Trinity Buoy Wharf in London, with their ceremony and reception held in the super cool warehouse venue. They really wanted to achieve a wedding which was fun, with good music, food and drink for their guests. How amazing is that?
They crafted up a storm together with their loved ones, with the epic ‘best day ever’ banner, signage, tassels and cake toppers all being DIY projects. The result was just marvellous, especially teamed with the fab lighting in the reception space, so whimsical.
I so love Marianne’s sequin wedding dress by Abigail of Gardenia, it looked incredible on her. Pete was suited and booted in a navy suit, floral tie and tan shoes, which coordinated perfectly with the groomsmen, while the bridesmaids wore tulle grey dresses. So much style all round.
Huge thanks goes to Miss Gen Photography for sharing with us these super beautiful images, what a feast for the eyes.
We are childhood sweethearts, having met a long time ago at school. We grew up together and even went to the same university. After years of being together we got engaged in a hotel room whilst watching 24 hours in police custody – romantic! We were engaged for 2 years before we got married.
We wanted the whole day to have a fun vibe, that was always our brief to everyone we brought in. We never wanted to drag anything out and to make guests do anything they didn’t want to do. It was all about getting the people we love together for some good food, good music and good drinks! As I’m sure every bride does, hours of pinterest helped me to decide on the colour scheme which initiated from a bouquet that I liked – green, pinks, creams and golds. Basically little pops of colour to give the room some atmosphere. A lot of the stuff in the room we made from the cake toppers to the cake, the on-table decorations, the hand painted signs, the paper tassels and the giant sign that was the highlight of the room resulting in chants of ‘BEST DAY EVER’ during the speeches. Our (and pete’s mums and sisters) blood sweat and tears went into making it as special as it was, with a few sleepless nights in the week leading up to the big day. It was so worth it to walk in on the day and see all the fruits of our labour, and its all that everybody could talk about all day so it was totally worth it (and so fun).
The Readings & Music
We had an official marriage a few days before in the local registry office, so our ceremony on our wedding day was much more personal and relaxed. A family friend was the celebrant and the ceremony was lovely, my sister read the poem ‘I wanna be yours’ by John Cooper Clarke (also sang by the arctic monkeys) which got a few laughs. We just kept our vows pretty simple, but still emotional, we didn’t want to make the ceremony too long! We walked out too ‘Kiss Me’ by New Found Glory because we are super emo.
Your Outfits & Accessories
I got my dress though a trunk show at Heart Aflutter Bridal, when I saw the sequins I knew it was the one. We weren’t really going for a traditional wedding so this dress was perfect! My shoes were bright reddy orange to match the wedding car I was initially going to have (a bright orange eagle kit car my dad has been building since I was little) other than that I kept it pretty simple as the dress was pretty spectacular on its own.
We chose Miss Gen Photography because she is the best! We spent ages looking for the right person, as we are both creative we knew we wanted someone who had a great style and we weren’t going to settle for anything less than that. We found her on a few blogs and found out she had photographed at the venue before, she had a great style and also a strong understanding of the venue was a huge plus. We picked Miss Gen because she was amazing at capturing real moments with nothing feeling too overly staged or forced! We’re both pretty shy at the best of times so we didn’t want anyone forcing to us pose in-front of the camera for hours.
Working with Miss Gen was a dream come true! She blended into the wedding perfectly and captured the best and funniest moments (like when our friend split her dress from dancing too hard). When we did do our couple shots she was professional and didn’t make us feel awkward or embarrassed and we ended up with amazing photos that feel super natural and candid. It was amazing to work with a photographer who knew exactly what to do and got on with it, not adding any unnecessary stress to the day. She even helped the boys put on their button holes as no one could work it out!
There are LOADS. My favourite ones of us as a couple are from the top of the light house, loved that little moment away from everyone, it gave us a bit of a chance to breathe and relax! When we walked around the area at TBW there were some shipping containers which made a great background for some of the shots, which I think are my favourite of us separately and together. I rarely take a good photo so having ones of myself that I am happy with is amazing! And then there are all the great ones of the guests having an amazing time. THE BEST ONE is of my friend dancing and ripping her dress, Miss Gen managed to capture the moment just before and the aftermath – there were definitely a lot of lols at that one!!! The group shots were also great, they didn’t feel forced and looking back at them just takes us back to those moments!
We decided to make the bouquets and button holes ourselves out of artificial flowers, one for a cost saving thing and the other reason was to add our own personality into as much as we could. We even made flower arrangements for tables, propped up in painted tin cans. Adding our own personality into everything was the one thing what was super important us. We did have some real flowers too – on the cake. Marianne had bought the flowers from Tesco Express the morning of the wedding on her way to the venue to drop the cake off, that she made the night before.
Too many to even name! All of it from start to finish literally was the best day ever, it sounds cheesy but it really was! The one memory that always seems to stick out in my mind was loosing the car keys at the very end of the night and my friend finding them on the floor and forgetting to tell me until the next day! For me it was walking down the aisle and looking at all the smiling faces of all the ones you love looking back at you, this made me a little emotional and then to top it off seeing Pete waiting for me at the end (and the amazing view of the O2 in the background).
Our first dance was ‘Time Of Your Life’ by Green Day. We got the band we hired to learn the song and do their own cover for us on the day which made for a great atmosphere during the first dance!
Advice For Other Couples
The day is all about you and your partner! So don’t try to please other people and just do what you want! If theres any day to be selfish it’s your wedding day! Also just enjoy yourself, don’t over-think it and just have fun!
