Callum and Jade’s family home wedding in the Shetland Islands was incredibly special. Not only was the family home venue right on the beach, but their day was simple and small, with a focus on their family.
Jade looked just stunning in her chic, sleek gown with updo hairstyle and veil, meanwhile, Callum donned a navy suit and sage green tie, very dapper indeed.
Then there were the pretty flowers, DIY decor and gorgeous semi-naked cake creation. Sublime.
Thanks so much to What Susan Sees Photography for sending over these divine shots of a really wonderful celebration.
The proposal was more like a conversation than a big proposal. We both knew we wanted to get married and had spoken about it before. We were out for a drive on a lovely sunny day and were speaking about marriage.
Callum said something along the lines of ‘well, will we just go for it then’, I asked if he was proposing, he said ‘yeah I suppose’ and then I said yes!
There wasn’t much of a vision apart from we knew we wanted it to be small, and we knew we wanted it to be a family orientated wedding.
We had thought about several venues but were struggling to think of anywhere unique and special to us. My mum suggested that we got married in my family home.
At first, we weren’t sure about the idea but once we had spoken about it and had planned what we would do with the outside space, we decided to go for it. My parent’s house, and the location of it, is beautiful, we were so happy that we did.
All of our outfits were locally bought.
Callum and Ryan’s (best man) suits were from C&C Suits and me and Karis’s (bridesmaid) dresses were from Da Wedding Shed.
I love a clean and simple wedding dress, and we added a bit of sparkle with the back jewellery. Karis picked a dress that she felt lovely in and the boys chose suits that complimented the colour of her dress. They went for blue with matching sea blue/green ties.
We were incredibly lucky to have Arthur Nicolson, a local singer/songwriter to play us down the aisle. I chose a song that I love and meant a lot to me – Chris Stapleton, Starting Over. Callum likes it too but I’m pretty sure he was just happy to go with whatever I liked.
THE BEST photographer – Susan Molloy. She was amazing. She made us feel so comfortable and at ease. She captured so many special moments in our day. We absolutely love our photos and couldn’t have asked for better.
All decorations were made by us.
My Dad, Callum, his Dad, my brother and brother in law, made the tent to fit the outside space for our venue.
Me and Callum, made the flower wall, Callum bent LED lights and mounted them to the board, and I stapled on faux flowers. All our family helped to decorate with lights and flowers.
We were so grateful of all the effort everyone put in to making our day so special!
No Honeymoon yet – COVID
There are so many to choose from but I think one for me, was on the second night (Shetland weddings normally have two) we had invited more of our close friends as restrictions had lifted slightly. Callum is a musician and had asked his friends to take their instruments to the wedding too. I was looking around and seeing everyone having so much fun, dancing to the music and just enjoying being in each other’s company (after spending so long in lockdown).
I took Callum aside and said to him that I couldn’t believe this was our wedding!
Don’t sweat the small stuff (this might be a cliché) but we felt that so often people worry about every detail, but all that matters is that you are marrying the person that you love, with the people that you love around you.
We also didn’t feel the pressure to invite too many people, we wanted a small wedding and we did just that. They will understand.
Absolutely stunning.
Callum and Jade thank you ever so much for sharing your very special family home wedding in the Shetland Islands with us.
