Enchanting Country Barn Wedding http://www.dmcclane.com/

You’re really going to fall for this enchanting barn wedding today. In fact, if you are planning a barn affair I am sure you will be getting your pin on, what with the rustic meets on trend wedding styling ideas at these swish nuptials.

Fraser and Greer tied the knot on Saturday 5th August 2017 and held their celebrations at The Cowshed at Woodhall Farm in the West Midlands. The cosy and relaxed vibes were evident through the beaming smiles and fun moments captured by Daniel McClane as well as the twinkling lights and lush greenery laden florals. There were also some brilliant photo opportunities too with the smoke bombs and confetti cannon first dance, they really added wow factor.

There were sensational attire choices, think Vera Wang and Badgley Mischka folks! Then there were hoops adorned with greenery gracing the top table backdrop and a ruffled cake creation. All so very gorgeous.

THE PROPOSAL | It was Christmas Day 2015, Fraser handed me my present, which was a black box tied with an ivory ribbon. When I opened it, it was a light box with roses inside and in the middle was a ring box. I looked at Fraser and he was on one knee and he asked me to marry him.

THE VISION | We wanted a relaxed country wedding.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We looked at three venues within a week of getting engaged and got in touch with St. Michael and All Angels Church in Tettenhall. Once we had secured the date and venue everything else just fell into place. The theme we went for was influenced by our venue and of course Pinterest helped with ideas.

THE VENUE | The Cowshed at Woodhall Farm.

A DIY barn venue, which you hire for four days. Two days to decorate and get the barn ready, a day for the wedding and a day to tidy up after. We wanted to make the whole experience last as long as we could and had the both our families around to help too.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Gemma by Vera Wang. A bandage style dress with a mermaid outline and ‘roses’ of fabric on the skirt.

Shoes by Badgley Mischka, Earrings and Necklace by Ivory and Co.

FINDING THE DRESS | I was really excited about going to find my dress and booked appointments at several dress shops quite soon after getting engaged. I found dresses I liked in every shop but couldn’t find ‘The One’. I remembered a dress from a Vera Wang perfume advert with Leighton Meester, and found out that it was actually a wedding dress. I eventually found my dream dress on Preloved, which was a bit unconventional I suppose but I’ve never felt more special than I did in that dress.

GROOM’S ATTIRE | Suits by Peter Posh in Tettenhall.

We chose a dark grey suit with a lighter grey tweed waistcoat, which had an ivory check. The groomsmen had ties and pocket squares to match the bridesmaid dresses, while Fraser had an ivory tie and pocket square.

THE READINGS & MUSIC |  Corinthians 1 read by the father of the groom.

The One – a poem read by the maid of honour.

In the church we asked my god daughter to sing whilst we signed the register. She sung All Of Me by John Legend and A Thousand Years by Christina Perri.

For the evening entertainment we hired The Review, a wedding band from Whitchurch. The band were amazing and got everyone dancing, even doing requests when asked.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Multiway dresses by Eliza and Ethan in Champagne.  I loved the simplicity of these multiway dresses but also that my bridesmaids could choose how they wore them so I knew they would feel comfortable and relaxed on the day.

THE FLOWERS | Bouquet, milk churns, top table display and button holes by Ann Raymond in Pattingham. Table and venue flowers from Triangle Nursery.

We wanted white flowers with lots of greenery. There were lots of peonies and stocks because of their beautiful fragrance. The tables were decorated with glass milk bottles, which had gypsophila, white roses, stocks and lisianthus. We went out the night before the wedding and cut ivy from the hedgerows to decorate the window sills.

THE CAKE | A three tier fondant ruffle cake by Georgie’s Butterfly Bakery. The top tier was carrot cake, middle tier was chocolate sponge and the bottom tier was vanilla sponge. Jess was able to match the colour scheme to my bridesmaid dresses and added some sparkle to the icing too.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Daniel McClane Photography.

We found Daniel on Facebook, he’d posted an advert on a local selling page. He hadn’t done many weddings when we booked him but the photos from weddings he had done were stunning. When we met with him, it was clear he was passionate about his work and could provide us with relaxed photos that would capture people throughout the day.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | We used old vegetable crates around the venue to provide us with spaces to display photos and vases of flowers. Kilner jars full of fairy lights and candles decorated outside spaces as well. We were influenced by the history of the barns, they used to house cows, so we used milk churns and milk bottles to display flowers.

We made damson gin for the favours and I had a personalised stamp made with our names and the wedding date to stamp the labels for the little bottles.

I painted wooden pallets to make signs for around the venue, on the road leading people in and displaying some photos of Fraser and me as children.

It was important that our pug, Ruby, attended our special day so, after the ceremony we had her brought to the venue for photos.

THE HONEYMOON | Three weeks travelling around Bali. We stayed in numerous places from the rainforests of Ubud, the beaches of Seminyak to the sandy island of Gili Trawangan. As well as spending hours relaxing we also climbed Mount Batur to watch the sunrise and snorkelled with turtles off the Gili islands.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | As we left the church it began to rain, my bridesmaids bundled me into the car under umbrellas. As Fraser and I drove away from the church to the venue there was thunder and lightning!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Go with what you feel is right. Everyone will have an opinion on what will look good but don’t feel like you have to follow this.

Fair play to Daniel for the photos. Absolutely amazing! Love the smoke bombs too. 🙂 Good idea to add a bit of own flair to the wedding. It all looks very spontaneous and relaxed. Love it!
