Oh my, how very beautiful is that image there. A moment captured in time from one super special day with an enchanted forest feel.
Chris and Sam were hitched on the 24th July 2016 at The Old Barn in Yorkshire. They wanted a really natural woodsy feel to their wedding with oodles of foliage and greenery used throughout. They kept everything super simple with a white colour palette, which included the bridesmaids in short white frocks and a stripped back naked cake.
Sam was so very gorgeous in ‘Penelope’ by Love Marley, with it’s flowing tulle skirt, blush slip and lace top. What a romantic gown. Chris looked totally cool in his tartan suit and Doc Martins. Aren’t these two just so very stylish? You are just going to love this wedding today guys.

THE PROPOSAL | 23.12.15. Chris texted me in bed that morning (lying next to me!) waking me up with a link to a hotel he had booked in York for that that very evening, with the strapline ‘This is your first Christmas present’. I was sooo excited and the apartment hotel looked lovely! It was the Lawrence Luxuary Apartments in York. Then we got to York later in the day and he suggested we go for a walk around the city. We ended up at York Minster where he said ‘Do you want your second Christmas Present?’ and I thought it would be some jewellery, so I yes and then he got down on one knee! He then proposed (I can’t actually remember what he said!) I cried and said yes. We even got an applause from the people nearby! After that we left the cathedral and had mulled cider in a nearby pub.
THE VISION | We both agreed that we wanted a simple and natural feel with lots of greens and whites. Flowers and foliage would play a big part so it became quite ‘Enchanted Foresty’.
THE PLANNING PROCESS | We planned the whole thing in 5 months, as well as working full time. It wasn’t that hard as most things we could do online. I used pinterest and searched google images for inspiration of green themed weddings. Once we had the venue booked (we were lucky to get it as with the time frame being so short most places were booked up!) it was then a case of getting the legal stuff sorted sharpish, the dress chosen and ordered and flowers booked in. Apart from the bridesmaid dresses and grooms suit the rest was done online as and when we could fit it in.
THE VENUE | The Old Barn in Esholt, Baildon (Bradford). Formally a working 18th century Yorkshire stone built barn, the venue is superbly presented, retaining most of its original characters with beautiful open beams, wrapped in fairy lights and lovely high ceilings. It has a large gallery staircase, decorated with roses on the balustrades and an integrated dance floor together with modern lighting and sound system. The downstairs is of both vintage and modern style and benefits from an open log burning fireplace. The venue has beautifully planted garden areas to 3 sides.
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | The dress was bought from Ava Rose Hamilton in Silsden and is by Love Marley and is called ‘Penelope.’ Shoes by Irregular choice.
FINDING THE DRESS | I took my mum with me and thank goodness I did! She ended up finding the dress! I wanted a rustic, natural feeling dress that was not too blingy. I tried on so many and just when I was about to give up my mum spotted one on the model. I tried it on and loved it! It was my first go at trying on dresses so I was really lucky to find it. I got the ‘feeling’ that everyone talks about and couldn’t help having a little cry.
GROOM’S ATTIRE | Chris wanted something a bit different, so he went for tartan! Green tartan to match the green/natural theme. He ordered his suit from ASOS from a company called ‘Noose and Monkey’. He wore black doc Martin shoes and had his standard Huddersfield Town pin badge.
THE READINGS & MUSIC | We decided against readings but music played quite a big part as Chris is music mad! I walked down the aisle to ‘All you need is love’ by the Beatles, we signed the register to ‘Everywhere’ by Fleetwood Mac, then ‘Baby I love you’ by the Ramones, then ‘God only knows’ by the Beach Boys. Then our exit song was ‘Sweet lovin’ by Sigala. Our first dance was an acoustic version of ‘We found Love’ By Calvin Harris and Rhianna performed by my brother Ross (Who is in a Leeds band called Fighting Caravans and just played Leeds Festival!). Our last dance was ‘You got the Love’ by Candi Staton.
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | My sister Leigh wore a Karen Millen dress and best friend Ally wore a Ted Baker dress. My niece Ellie wore a dress from Monsoon as the flower girl and nephew Alfie wore a suit from Monsoon as the page boy.
THE FLOWERS | The main attraction! We went for green and white bouquets for the bride and bridesmaids, a rustic wand for the flower girl and hair circlets for the bride and flower girl. The bridesmaids had real flowers in their hair too. The groom and groomsmen had bark buttonholes. The centrepieces were bell jars containing mosses, ferns, plants and very natural/earthy flowers. We also had a wishing tree made of sticks, bark and various flowers where guests could write a little luggage tag to stick on the tree. Sarah at Pink Ginger flowers in Saltaire was fantastic throughout and I would highly recommend her.
THE CAKE | We went for a naked cake to with matching green and white flowers to match the simple and natural theme. It was scrumptious! It was by Patisserie Viennoise in Otley.
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Ryan at Shutter Go Click Photography was an absolute diamond! We decided early on that we didn’t want the usual standing around pictures, more the documentary style with a rustic edge and we were so lucky to not only find Ryan but for him to have our date available! We went for the full package so got an engagement shoot too, which was really fun and a good way to get to know Ryan.
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Quite simple! We went for the centre pieces as above, with bark name tag holders and table number holders (all from weddingofmydreams.com). The favours were sherbet lemons in brown sweet bags and we had activity boxes for the two children (Alfie and Ellie). The seating plan was in a frame with handwritten names, Ivy and white flowers.
THE HONEYMOON | 2 weeks in Thailand! 3 nights in Bangkok staying in the Banyan Tree. Then 4 nights in Chang Mai staying in the Anatara, which was the most stunning hotel we have ever stayed in! Then 1 week in Ko Samui staying at the Six Senses resort.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | My brother Ross performing the first dance song was so emotional and a moment we will both cherish. He was so nervous prior to the performance he nearly didn’t do it!
Chris says his most memorable moment was seeing me walking down the aisle. It took his breath away.
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | There is no need to stress about anything as it all works out in the end! Enjoy the planning process and the day itself as it goes by so quickly.
