What a way to start this glorious week! Pure unadulterated romance, sublime photography and all in elegant style.
Joanna and Ashley are our couple today and they were married on the 12th August 2017 in a church ceremony followed by a marquee reception at Zinnia Gardens in Surrey. Let me first talk about those portraits in the lavender though, dreamy or what!? Nataly J Photography‘s captures are so beautiful here and we cannot thank her enough for sharing them with us. The couple stopped off at Mayfield Lavender for the portraits especially, what a marvellous idea.
The colour scheme was all white, with striking greenery touches mixed with white blooms. Think foliage garlands, calligraphy stationery and minimal decoration, the marquee looked a real sight to behold.
The couple though have really upped the style stakes. Joanna chose to wear an illusion lace back gown by Dando London and she looked just incredible. Ashley’s suit had old school cool style, with a white jacket and black bow tie combo. It’s all SO stunning folks.
THE PROPOSAL | 1st April 2017. Ashley proposed on a private rooftop garden overlooking the Thames in London. He decorated the garden with candles and fairy lights and had a violin player appear playing one of Joanna’s favourite melodies when he got on one knee.
THE VISION | All white classy summer marquee wedding.
THE PLANNING PROCESS | Joanna and Ashley knew exactly what they wanted and made all their plans themselves through inspiration from Pinterest and other weddings. Having such a short amount of time to plan a big wedding of over 300 meant they had to be decisive, yet didn’t ever compromise. In the lead up to the wedding and on the day they had an amazing wedding coordinator, Francesca, who was a God-send in making their final plans and arrangements come to life.
THE VENUE | They had their ceremony in the stunning Croydon Minster and chose Zinnia Gardens, a beautiful premier marquee venue in Surrey for their reception.
THE DRESS + ACCESSORIES | Amazing dress is designed by Dando London. And is Chelsea model.
FINDING THE DRESS | Joanna had no idea what kind of dress she wanted before trying them on. She fell in love with the first dress she tried on at Confetti & Lace. After getting her mum’s teary approval she went on to purchase it, together with a tail veil and head veil. She fell in love with the detail on the back of the dress as well as how much it complimented and highlighted her figure – she knew this is what Ashley would love (and he did!).
GROOM’S ATTIRE | Ashley had his suit tailor made.
THE READINGS + MUSIC | We had bible readings read by close family members – Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, 1 Corinthians 13, and proverbs 31.
Joanna walked down the aisle to a string and piano version of A Thousand Years by Christina Pedro. During the ceremony there was string quartet, pianist and band playing songs focussing on God’s love, which meant a lot to the couple.
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Bridesmaids were wearing Vera Wang white dresses. They looked absolutely stunning! Their make up was done by the talented Santhy Smith.
THE FLOWERS DETAILS + DÉCOR | Joanna chose GA weddings to do both her flowers and décor after seeing her work at other events and on social media. Everything was so beautiful! As the theme was all white, they chose white roses mixed with other seasonal white flowers for the bouquets and button holes.
At the reception, tables had an elegant white orchid centrepiece. There was calligraphy for name cards. Wedding favours were sugared almonds in bags together with little hearts engraved with ‘Mr &Mrs J-B’ and the date.
THE CAKE | The cake was made by a talented family friend of the couple, who went as far as America to collect bits to decorate the cake. It was quite spectacular to say the least!
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | The couple chose natalyjphotography to do their photography. She captured their day so perfectly. They had photos in between the ceremony and reception in Mayfield Lavendar field, where they had fun dodging insects and stinging nettles whilst taking the shots.
Before the wedding they had a pre-wedding shoot on Reigate hill, where they managed to catch a moment in the wheat fields just before it got harvested!
THE HONEYMOON | Joanna and Ashley went to Mauritius the morning after their wedding. They stayed at the 5* outrigger hotel resort for two weeks. Much needed time of relaxation and enjoyment of one another after the manic months of planning the wedding.
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | It is possible to organise your dream wedding in a short amount of time – you just have to be decisive, creative and determined.
We also definitely recommend going on a marriage preparation course – it set us up so well for marriage and starting it well!
