Dominic and Georgina are with us this fine Friday to share their utterly beautiful barn wedding, which was held on the 21st September 2018 at Cripps Barn in Gloucestershire. I loved hearing how Dominic emailed himself a link to Cripps Barn two years before they were engaged and as fate would have it Georgina loved Cripps Barn at the very beginning of their wedding planning process. They really made the venue their own with a subtle botanical theme running throughout thanks to the greenery used everywhere (I adore the chandelier in the barn) and the foliage illustrated stationery. The rest of the décor they kept super simple and they really let the barn do the talking. Their top priority was bringing together all of their loved ones with amazing food, drink, venue and music. Talking of music I was thrilled to hear that WWW Supplier Love members Alive Network provided their brilliant evening band Boom Town. I think live entertainment always brings a great party atmosphere.
Other elements from their wedding day that really stood out to me are the stylish outfits, the ethereal large bouquet, the semi naked cake adorned in gold leaf and berries and the candles used everywhere. Wow.
I am so thankful to be sharing these exquisite images by Isobel Murphy Photography with you. There is so much joy captured throughout their celebrations.
After 10 years together, seeing off high school, Uni, two house moves and one dog, I felt it was a perfect time to propose. Although very unfit I decided to enter the London Marathon to support the Multiple Sclerosis Society Charity. Unknown to me G had also got a place too! The months went by and we trained and trained, and after one of the hardest days of my life and 26.2 miles later back at the charity HQ we walked outside to take some snaps of our medals with our friends and family, and it was there I proposed just out of shot of Big Ben.
We wanted the day to be relaxed to reflect us as a couple with warm and sumptuous colours throughout our theme. We felt uncomfortable with the day being just about us, and that after more than 11 years together, we were keen for our wedding day to bring everyone we love and who have supported us together with the most gorgeous food, drink, venue and music for a truly magical day.
The Planning Process
We gave ourselves just under 18 months to organise our wedding, which we felt was just about the right amount of time. We broke everything down into time deadlines, which made the whole process really relaxed.
I trusted my hairdresser, Harriet from Mavericks Hair Design, to create the look I wanted for the big day. We had time discussing the look I was after, and looking through photos for inspiration. After a successful hair trial, I was confident she would be able to create exactly the look I had in my head, and she didn’t disappoint.
I chose Callie to do my make up based on personal recommendation. She really impressed me in the trial, and paid attention to my vision. I wanted to look natural, but ‘done-up’, she knew what I was trying to say, and her work made me feel amazing on the day – my make up got so many compliments!
I always thought that the venue would be the most difficult decision. But we had chosen Cripps within weeks of getting engaged. Dom is known to be the emotional one of the two of us, and hence emailed himself a link to Cripps 2 years before we got engaged! A couple of weeks after we got engaged he asked me if I had seen anywhere that I liked the look of, and I showed him Cripps Barn! After a visit, we were just as blown away by the atmosphere and surroundings, so quickly booked our date without hesitation.
Bridesmaids & Bridesman
Our bridesmaid dresses were from Victoria Lou, she offers multiway dresses in so many colours. We originally thought they would be in green but decided to go for a more rich colour as we would be having a lot of greenery in the flowers and the ‘velvet’ colour that we finally decided to go with would suit all hair colours and tan situations! I gave free reign for the girls to wear them as they wanted; being comfortable was my top priority.
I also had a bridesman, who wore the same as the groomsmen but had a slight alteration to his buttonhole!
Sandals from ASOS and hairpins from Not On The Highstreet.
Your Outfits & Accessories
I wore a 3 piece blue tweed suit by Marc Darcy with gold/cream tie and white shirt from Moss Bros. The gold/cream tie picked up colours on the cuffs and pockets and also the thin matching colour within the suit tweed pattern. They were well made, comfortable and a good price.
After what felt like trying every bridal dress on in the whole entire world, I eventually decided on ‘Locklin’ by w.too (Watters). I say ‘eventually decided’ because in its original form it wasn’t ‘the one’. I made lots of adjustments to it including adding sleeves and redesigning the back. I took inspiration from a Hayley Paige gown that I’d tried on, but wanted something more subtle and bank balance friendly! Wtoo also give you a choice on your lining colour, which was perfect, as I wanted a slightly warmer tone.
The Readings & Music
The readings and ceremony music were really important to both of us.
Reading 1 – Union by Robert Fulgham
Reading 2 – Scaffolding by Seamus Heaney
We had a string quartet for our wedding ceremony and reception – I’m told that they were amazing, but I honestly didn’t notice them amongst the emotion and nerves!
We chose Boom Town as our evening band, they were as fantastic as they portray themselves to be online!
The incredibly talented Isobel Murphy, hands down the best shots, vibe and organisation, would recommend to everyone! Neither of us particularly likes being stood in front of a camera, but we knew Isobel would settle our nerves to create beautifully natural shots.
Full 3 piece suits purchased from Mark Darcy Suits via The Wedding Barn. Shirts/ties/shoes hire from The Wedding Barn.
For our pageboy we purchased a smaller size direct from Marc Darcy.
A very talented family friend made our wedding cake from scratch as a wedding gift, all of our guests said how amazing it tasted, and the staff at Cripps were requested her business card, to be told she’s a retired teacher and bakes for enjoyment!
The custom topper is from “The Letter Loft”.
Go Wild Flowers. Very talented and accommodating to whatever we wanted, with excellent seasonal suggestions. She captured the exact style we were after.
The Details & Décor
Cripps really doesn’t need a lot added to it as it’s already a beautiful venue, but we wanted to add a few personal touches to make it ours. We kept things really simple by hanging some old family photos on branches from our garden, a polaroid camera and book to snap your selfie and write a heartfelt note (we loved looking through this the day after the wedding), and bowls of huge marshmallows for everyone to enjoy over the fire pits.
We went to Rome for 5 days on a mini-moon, which was absolutely beautiful. However, with hindsight, we probably would have chosen a more relaxing holiday as by day 2 we were both desperate to sunbathe and nothing – wedding planning is exhausting!
Walking down the aisle was an absolutely unforgettable moment, I wasn’t expecting to be as emotional as I was. My Mum pouring almost an entire espresso martini onto her lap just as the starters were coming out will also stick in my mind for many years to come.
Advice For Other Couples
Create a google sheet. The Google sheet is a live document where you both can edit details. We listed items, deadlines, what has been sorted and what hasn’t. Use it just like Microsoft Excel, very handy and without the need to keep contacting each other to chase things up.
Also, if you have a tight budget, leave a little in the slush fund for the weeks building up to the big day, there are always things that crop up and quickly add up, combined with the outlook of ‘oh just pay for it, we’re so close and money doesn’t matter at this point!’ – wedding planning can begin to feel like a second job!
