What a stylish city celebration we have for you today. Georgie and Kieran got married just a stone’s throw away from their flat in Hackney, with a ceremony at Stoke Newington Town Hall followed by a reception at the Londesborough Pub on Friday 13th October 2017. Our pair have a history of good things happening to them on Friday 13th and this one was no exception!
Georgie and Kieran kept the décor relatively simple, with bunting and a loose white and gold theme. The florals are really something special and that red velvet cake is making me feel peckish!
Georgie just knew she wanted a Candy Anthony dress; what about that Peter Pan collar and the pretty polka dots? Gorgeous! Our groom looks ever so dapper too, plenty of thought went into his fantastic tweed three piece suit from Moss Bros. The bridesmaids look beautiful in their ASOS dresses, which are just perfect for an autumn city wedding.
Fabulous images of Georgie and Kieran’s day have been captured by the The Shannons, just wonderful.
THE PROPOSAL | Under the guise of a late celebration for Kieran’s birthday we went to Barcelona in May 2016. On Friday 13th we ventured out of the city to go horse riding in a natural park. Once on top of the mountain overlooking Barcelona city Kieran managed to coax me away from the ponies long enough to pop the question.
THE VISION | A relaxed London pub wedding with good food, good music and our nearest and dearest there to celebrate with us.
We wanted to get married in our home borough of Hackney so the beautiful Stoke Newington Town Hall was an obvious choice for the ceremony and particularly handy as it’s only a short walk from our flat.
The bride is vegetarian and the groom vegan, so a delicious wedding breakfast which didn’t leave our guests pining after meat was essential and we knew that the Londesbourough could deliver this.
The date was easy enough to choose as Friday 13th tends to be a lucky day for us – we first moved in together on a Friday 13th, exchanged on our first home on Friday 13th and Kieran proposed on Friday 13th.
THE PLANNING PROCESS | We started off strong getting the Ceremony and Reception venue booked over a year in advance and Kieran developed a comprehensive spreadsheet to allocate jobs and track progress (he’s a project manager). As boring as it sounds, it ensured tasks were divided fairly and we both had an even split of wedding admin. Despite this we still managed to leave all of the venue decorations, favours and even the flowers until the last minute! Luckily family and Amazon prime were on hand to help.
THE VENUE | Stoke Newington Town Hall and The Londesborough Pub
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Dress – Candy Anthony
Shoes – Marta Jonsson
Watch – Votch (vegan watch suppliers)
Makeup by the fantastic Justina Sullivan of Beautiful Brides.
I had a glass bead made of my late mother’s ashes tied into my bouquet along with her blue gemstone pendant as my something borrowed and blue.
My earrings were a simple pair of gold studs that my brother had bought my mum for her 50th birthday.
FINDING THE DRESS | This couldn’t have been easier. I’ve always loved Candy Anthony gowns, so it was my first port of call for wedding dress shopping. I spotted my dress on the sample rail as soon as I walked in but was persuaded to try on a few other styles first. It was actually made for a bridal show, so it’s a one of a kind and I fell in love with the Peter Pan collar and turn-up sleeves straight away. I knew from the moment I put it on that it was the dress for me.
GROOM’S ATTIRE | Moss Bros suit, TM Lewin Shirt, Bow tie and pocket square.
The groom and best man are Birmingham boys so wanted a touch of the peaky blinders without looking like fancy dress. The suit and accessory combination caused a lot more sleepless nights and fretting than the wedding dress. Endless combinations of pockets squares/ socks/ ties etc. were trialled, but it was well worth the effort– the boys looked great on the day.
THE READINGS & MUSIC | Reading: Pam Ayres – “Yes I’ll Marry You” read by our close friend Abi.
Entrance: The Beatles – All You Need is Love
Exit: The Turtles – Happy Together
First Dance: Ray LaMontagne – You Are the Best Thing
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Charlotte & Sarah – the girls’ dresses and shoes were both from ASOS.
THE FLOWERS | Amber Rose Flowers were able to supply us at VERY short notice. We both love flowers, but don’t know the first thing about them! Kieran was able to find some images of the kind of arrangements we had in mind on Pintrest and Amber Rose Flowers were able to create beautiful arrangements for the ceremony and bridal party. My dad loved my bouquet so much he’s preserved it in silica jell and is making a 3D keepsake arrangement for our Christmas present.
THE CAKE |Vegan red velvet from Ooh Lou Lou Bakery, Stoke Newington Church Street
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Vicki & Pete – The Shannons. We couldn’t recommend this fabulous couple enough. Not only do they take wonderful photographs, but they took lots of time to get to know us and pin down exactly what we wanted in advance of the wedding – which meant it was smooth sailing on the day.
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | We had a loosely gold and white theme. As it was Friday 13th we gave all the guests a scratch card and a lucky penny for favours.
THE HONEYMOON | Dubai and the Seychelles. A once in a lifetime trip island hopping, swimming in crystal clear water and drinking the local Seybrew beer.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The fantastic registrar who made the whole party roar with laughter.
The unseasonably dry, warm and sunny day for October
The bridesmaids’ rap in the style of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme
Having all of my cousins together – even Christopher who broke his back only weeks before, that’s dedication to a party!
All of the children who were impeccably behaved (more so than some of the adults) and did an excellent job of distributing the confetti and getting everyone on the dance floor.
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | The day will whizz past so quickly, so be sure to take a pause to soak it all up. You’ll barely spend any time together so try and take a few minutes after the ceremony to collect your thoughts and congratulate yourselves. Most of all enjoy it – it’s your big day!
