WWW readers Jaimie and Naomi decided to get married on the 28th May 2016 at Park Farmhouse Hotel in Derbyshire. They planned to host a music festival inspired wedding, which all began with the fun festival wrist bands. Their music choices were key and they also used CDs as favours, vinyl record table names and a festival line up poster as fun touches.
One of my fave elements of their celebrations has to be Naomi’s incredible Catherine Deane dress, which was so very romantic. Then there were the bridesmaids in chic skirts from Coast and the dapper gents in Next suits, what a stylish wedding party. Enjoy this fab wedding story folks.
Thanks so much to HBA Photography for sharing these fantastic photographs.
THE PROPOSAL | We started dating on Christmas Eve 2000. A mere 14 years later Jaimie proposed (it’s best not to rush in to these things!). Jaimie had planned a trip to Belgium to celebrate his birthday but had been secretly plotting. He proposed next to Lovers Lake in Bruges on the 29th September 2014. After the big YES we travelled to Brussels where Jaimie had booked the Hotel Metropole, a hotel my Grandma used to meet her Dad every weekend in her childhood.
THE VISION | The very first thing we decided is that we needed wristbands! It’s amazing what you can find on google and they were the first thing we sorted. In the short train journey between Bruges and Brussels we had decided we wanted a casual wedding, preferably in a barn, a running festival music theme with an emphasis on family, friends and fun! Easy peasy!
THE PLANNING PROCESS | I’d love to say we were super organised but the planning was more a list of things on my ipad that we worked our way through whilst looking after a newborn! (1st baby born 13th June 2015!) I’d say, with most things we do… we winged it!! We knew we wanted something with a fun, warm vibe loosely based around our love of music and festivals. We didn’t have a colour scheme as such but blue (for boy.. Not wkd…) was the underlying colour of the day. Picking the bands for the table names and the first dance were definitely the most debated tasks! In general everything came pretty naturally, adding to the relaxed feeling of the day.
BUDGET | We didn’t have a budget as such we just knew we wanted to keep it around the 10k mark.. Which we almost did!
THE VENUE | The Park Farmhouse in Donnington was the perfect choice for us. One of our main requests was that the wedding and the wedding breakfast took place in separate rooms.. The park farmhouse does one better than that – you eat in Pig Stys! Its totally unique and it was great for us, really cosy and on the day the atmosphere was perfect. I cannot praise the team there enough, they were great and everything went off without a hitch.
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | The dress was Anya by Catherine Deane, shoes Charlotte by Rachel Simpson and headpiece was by Provincias. All purchased from the wonderful Rachel Ash in Atherstone – I’m a one stop shop kind of girl!
FINDING THE DRESS | I found the dress in only the second shop I visited. I’d actually found the dress online (on instagram I think!) and had sought out stockists of the designer, by sheer coincidence one of the only stockists was based just half an hour up the road! Rachel and Ash were amazing, I tried on about 4 dresses before I tried Anya and it was perfect straight away. It was everything I wanted in a dress, floaty with a bit of bling and a bit of cheeky arm coverage. And the back was amazing! The shoes were an easy choice, I loved Rachel Simpson’s shoes and had actually found them online Rachel and Ash ordered them in for me and it was love at first sight. I can’t promise they stayed on my feet all night but I did my best!
GROOM’S ATTIRE | We didn’t want to go down the road of rented suits as we wanted something slightly less formal and more modern. All of the suits were purchased from Next. We opted for a darker grey for the groom and a slightly lighter grey for the rest of the party all with blue ties.
THE READINGS & MUSIC | Music was tough!! None of my suggestions were well received – particularly Suddenly by Angry Anderson (if you don’t love Kylie / Neighbours then you wont understand!). We eventually chose Crazy Love by Van Morrison to walk down the aisle, For once in my life by Stevie Wonder for the signing of the register and You’re Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher by Jackie Wilson for the end of the service (bit of a nod to ghost busters there!). We found the old ones to be the best!
Our first dance was to Baby I’m Yours by the Artic Monkeys, a band we have enjoyed live together many times so it was the perfect choice for us.
We asked our good friend Becs to do a reading for us, we actually asked her to pick a reading herself and for it to be a surprise. She chose a poem called Love and it was perfect ( I feel like I’m saying that word a lot!)
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Bridesmaids were my wonderful step sister Claire and one of my oldest and best friends Sarah. Both of them were amazing, from planning the best hen party I could have asked for to just being there for me on the day I really did get spoilt!
There outfits were from Coast, I’d fallen in love with a skirt from there collection in summer 2015 and during a shopping trip with my Mum just bought it with a top! Thankfully they both loved it and both looked absolutely fabulous!
THE FLOWERS | I found our florist at a Save the Date wedding fair and she happened to be an old school friend of Claire. She was fabulous from start to finish! I gave her a rough idea of what I wanted and trusted her to the rest. She didn’t let me down, all of the flowers were just beautiful and just completed the venue.
THE CAKE | We wanted a naked cake and my Mum’s Cousin was kind enough to make one for us. “The Marlows” cake topper from not on the high-street just finished it off nicely.
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | I found HBA at a Save the Date wedding fair. We chose them because we wanted a more informal style and really liked meeting Ben in person and also thought their portfolio looked awesome. On the day they were just fantastic! They came to my Mum’s house for the preparation and could not have been more relaxed and that was the theme for the day. They have a great way of getting the most amazing photographs and we can’t wait to see all of ours.
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Our invites were based on festival tickets and we sent out wristbands with them. This theme followed through in our stationery for the day, we had a festival line up poster as the table plan, vinyl records as the table names (from Kylie to Nirvana) and CDs that we had made as wedding gifts. We used polaroid style pictures of all of our guests as the place cards. Lots of effort but we wanted to add the personal touch!! We decorated the pig stys with home made pom poms, we had balloons and goody bags for the kids and had made chalkboards to outline the order of the day and the rules of the dancefloor.
THE HONEYMOON | We got married on Saturday, watched Kasabian at the King Power on Sunday and flew to Sardinia on Monday. Crazy but fun!! We took Eli on honeymoon with us so it doubled as our first family holiday. The sun was shining and we all had a fantastic time.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Me fluffing Jaimie’s name during our vows will probably be hard to forget but it eased the nerves quite nicely to have a giggle! The speeches were all amazing, from the heckling of my dad to “stand up” at the beginning of his, to the heartfelt comments by Jaimie to the best man trying not to talk about Leicester too much, they were all fantastic. We had asked Lloyd our usher to be the announcer of the day and this is still making us laugh now he was made for it. We also had a few family children present and with the sun shining as brightly as it was it was great to watch them playing outside with the very popular balloons. The whole day was just super relaxed and ended with everyone having a good old dance. It was all we could have wished for.
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Relax and enjoy it! Find a great photographer that puts you at ease during the day and remember that you hire professionals for a reason! If you are having children at your wedding – give them a balloon! It will go down a treat!
