Happy Valentine’s Day WWWers, I hope today is filled to the brim with love and joy for you, let me start you off with this lovely wedding day.
Fresh, lush and sunny would be how I’d describe Gina and Paul’s outdoor wedding celebrations in Cornwall. Their bohemian country wedding was a delight from beginning to end, and it featured a starring role for guest bridesmaid, springer spaniel Mischa, cuteness alert!
WWW readers Gina and Paul were hitched on the 17th September 2016 at Rose in Vale Country House Hotel in St Agnes. They said I do in the dreamy gardens beneath a gazebbo laden in blooms and greenery. For the reception they headed into the marquee in the grounds, which was decorated with lilac lanterns, pretty fresh flowers, wooden details and hessian. Amazing!
Gina looked sensational in her super stylish Grace Loves Lace gown teamed with pretty flower crown, while her maids wore pastel frocks all tied together with the most gorgeous fresh floral bouquets. Paul meanwhile had a bespoke three piece suit made in navy, complete with super cool bow tie. Oh the love.
Thanks so much to Alexa Poppe for sharing these glorious images.
THE PROPOSAL | 28th December 2015
THE VISION | Country style outdoor wedding with our doggy included!
THE PLANNING PROCESS | As soon as we got engaged I wanted to start planning. Paul and I had always said we wouldn’t get engaged until we knew we could afford to get married as we both never liked the thought of being engaged for the sake of it (we’ve been together 11 years!). From the first time we visited Cornwall we knew we loved it and it would be perfect for a wedding!
I originally wanted to make all my own centrepieces but my florist came up with some better ideas for me as there were implications with it being inside a marquee. I am quite organised so I was happy to do all the planning myself however, I didn’t realise it would take up so much of my time!!
It was great having knowledgeable and helpful suppliers to help along the planning process.
BUDGET | We both had absolutely no idea how much weddings cost!!!!! We initially thought £20k but we went over this….. a lot.
THE VENUE | Rose in Vale Country House Hotel, St Agnes, Cornwall.
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Grace Loves Lace – an Australian wedding boutique and a flower hair band made by my lovely florist.
FINDING THE DRESS | I’m not a very dressy person so after visiting a couple of bridal stores I thought I would end up in jeans and a t shirt (!!) however, I was reading through a copy of Australian Vogue and they did a feature on the type of dress they thought Jennifer Aniston would wear and GLL was featured! I saw the site and knew immediately that one of their dresses was perfect for me! It was a bit risky buying online and not trying it on first but their service is second to none and I felt completely at ease.
GROOM’S ATTIRE | Bespoke three piece suit from Whitfield and Ward, Wilmslow.
THE READINGS & MUSIC | No readings – we wanted a quick ceremony with more time to relax drink and mingle!
Music wise for the ceremony and welcome reception we had a beautiful string quartet called Melegari String Quartet – beautiful.
In the evening we had a band – Joe Hurworth who is a lovely local guy and a DJ R2 events. Couldn’t have asked for better!
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had my three closest friends, Chloe, Justine and Aleisha and my beautiful springer spaniel and bff, Mischa as bridesmaids! The girls wore dresses that I found on ASOS, which beautifully complemented my dress. They are all so different so we were lucky to find the dresses and they looked stunning.
Mischa had a little ribbon but she doesn’t like a lot of fuss so it didn’t last long!!
THE FLOWERS | I adored the flower arrangements which were done by Mariana of Fuller Blooms and Garden Nurseries of South West Cornwall. Mariana was amazing throughout the planning process and she did by bouquet, the bridesmaids bouquets, buttonholes for the male wedding party, all the table centrepieces, a garland for the summerhouse (ceremony) and a stunning hair band for me. Wonderful!
THE CAKE | We had a wedding cake made of different cheese – it was from West Country Cheese.
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Alexa Poppe – I found Alexa online and she was brilliant. Very laid-back and the photos were very natural, which is exactly what I was looking for! Paul and I met with Alexa before the wedding and she brought her dog to the meeting so I knew it was meant to be!!
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | I hired some items from Inspire Hire Cornwall such as, vases for the centrepieces and tea light holders. Jam jars for the aisle were supplied by the florist and the rest of the decorations, I had bought online.
THE HONEYMOON | We had a couple of days in Cornwall after the wedding but we have booked our honeymoon for next year as we are going to New Zealand for three weeks. We wanted to go during their winter as we want to go snowboarding and do some other things in the South Island.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | I loved the build up to the wedding and was lucky enough to have my friends and family to help me organise everything. As the reception was held in a marquee on the grounds of the hotel, we had been advised that the entire dressing of the marquee was to be carried out by the bridal party rather than hotel staff. This took up a lot of time but I had brilliant people with me and keeping busy kept the wedding jitters at bay!
On the day, as I was prepping some final bits for the tables, Mischa (dog) decided to chase after some ducks into a mud filled pond! She came out covered in mud and my mum and I had to take turns holding her in the shower to get her ready for the wedding! I also loved our first dance, which was to Sexual Healing by Marvin Gaye!
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Don’t get too stressed during the planning stage and make sure you keep a clear record of your outgoings, they add up VERY quickly!!
