Ever tried ballet? I think I did once upon a time, but sadly I lacked the grace and elegance and I am sure patience to become a ballerina. However I can really appreciate and admire these beautiful ballet wedding ideas sent over to me by the wonderful The Two Hummingbirds and who was behind the graceful images? None other that the brilliant Henry Lowther, in fact the whole team behind this ballet editorial was superbly creative and Haarlem Mill was the perfect setting for the shoot.
I adore the romance of these images and the soft flowing feel. Think pale pink blooms teamed with on trend orchids and pampas grass, candlelight and feathers. There were stunning bridal gowns and accessories, a dapper suit, beautiful hair and make up as well as the sweetest flower girl dresses. Also look out for the floating cake and delicate stationery. Oh my!
Ballet Wedding Ideas
Haarlem Mill in Derbyshire on the 10th February 2020.
Using the ever so popular Black Swan as our inspiration the shoot took place in the historic industrial bricked Haarlem Mill, a stark contrast of the utterly romantic concept of a ballerina. Telling the story of an oh so romantic ballet-inspired bride using her dance as an imitate expression of her femininity, strength and love. Influenced by the delicate nature of the moment and gracefulness of the dance lends itself well to every little girl who secretly dreams of one day growing up to be a prima ballerina bride.
The professionally trained ballerina dances her way through the shoot in a number of delicate textured gowns by Frances Day Bridal (Misty by Suzanne Neville & Claudette by Jenny Packham) accompanied by her husband to be wearing a selection of handmade suits from Jon Paul Menswear (light grey 3-piece and a black formal 3–piece dinner suit) to mimic the contrast of the white and black swan.
The table featuring masses of layered soft textures coupled with delicate pink roses are an integral part of the décor for a ballet-inspired wedding. The table centrepiece was an abundance of hand selected flowing, full headed pink, blush, cream and grey blooms matched with contemporary soft white ruscus, dried stems and pampas grass to add that effortless feather texture that show a timeless sophisticated elegance associated with ballet. The table décor oozed romance with its mass of tall elegant dinner candles, smooth matt ceramic plates teamed with gold tones and soft textured linen menus for a touch of luxe. Also borrowed from the ballet trend was the use of rose quartz to represent the encouragement of harmony, purified love and powers of healing between the two swans. This we feel are textures working the way into bridal styles and beyond.
An impressively floating cake design inspired by the en pointe movement allowing the top tier to effortlessly float on a delicate handcrafted orchid stem, to replicate the elegance of the dancer and her ability to seemingly float through the air.
The jewellery that was beautifully worn by our couple were handmade for the shoot, using selected floral cuttings of cast hydrangea drop earrings were designed to sway with the movement of our ballerina bride. The tiny pearls which hang like droplets from the chain echo the texture and lustre of the cast flower head above. The wedding rings made from twigs and bark from meaningful places to create totally unique bands that capture memories and connections to that couple.
We kept the makeup neutral and glowing to follow a ballerina bride. The hair was styled romantically to embody the ballerina and suit each of the gowns.
The small wedding details such as wedding stationery were photographed on flat lays to showcase how your smaller details are just as important as everything else.
All inspirations taken very much from the world of ballet with Henry Lowther capturing in all its glory.
