Welcome to a new week here at Whimsical Wonderland Weddings. We have another jammed packed week filled to the brim with loveliness and today we’re kicking things off with a bang. Let me introduce you to Laura and Dave who are sharing their casual and fun wedding held at The Arches in Halifax, Yorkshire. The Arches is an industrial style wedding venue which was once a mill, it really is just a breathtaking space for weddings. We have definitely seen a rise in industrial weddings of late and I am just loving them.

Laura and Dave really made the venue their own with their long tables dressed in greenery and candelabras. The candlelit reception complete with fairy light ceiling really is so magical, it creates a fabulous atmosphere. Also keep your eyes peeled for a super cool camper photo booth which was situated inside too. Come evening a food truck was set up to feed guests and a live band provided the tunes. On hand to capture all the memories was the brilliant Paul Joseph Photography, we are so grateful to be sharing these amazing photographs with you.

The Proposal

Dave proposed by a lovely canal in Amsterdam after taking me on a surprise weekend away to see Sam Smith. Then we had a lovely dinner and champagne in the botanical gardens.

The Vision

We wanted it to be an informal and relaxed day and most importantly we wanted all of our guests to have fun! We also really liked the idea of industrial venues.

The Planning Process

We booked the venue 6 months before the big day so didn’t have a huge amount of time to plan it. But we felt this was a good thing as I am sure we would have filled up whatever amount of time we had with planning!

We both had fairly clear ideas on what we wanted from the day so selecting suppliers and making decisions about the day felt fairly easy and stress free.

The Readings & Music

Our friend Tom played the guitar for us as we entered/left. He played John Legend – All Of Me as I walked in and Riptide by Vance Joy as we walked back down the aisle.

We had three readings. One was an adaptation of ‘oh the places you’ll go’ by Dr Seuss. One of my favourite books to read to Oscar. This is where the tears came! The other two were selected by the guests we had chosen to read them. Our friend Charlotte wrote a gorgeous one all about how we had met.

Budget

We had a budget in mind of around £15000 but ended up spending a bit more than this as we decided to keep the booze a bit more free flowing on the day. But we saved where we could (I did most of the flowers myself and my mum made our cake).

Groomsmen

The groomsmen wore their own suits and we bought them all a green wool tie to match.

Bridesmaids

My bridesmaid wore a green Warehouse dress.

The flower girls wore dresses from John Lewis and cardigans from Next.

Your Outfits & Accessories

My dress was from a wedding dress warehouse in Kirkstall called The Wedding Warehouse. It’s a goldmine of designer dresses at cheaper prices. It does require a bit of digging but if you know what you’re after it’s great.

The grooms suit was from TM Lewin.

I wore my mums old pearl earrings, I had my grandmas handkerchief on hand for any tears (which was needed) and I also had one of Oscar’s blue socks wrapped around my bouquet as a little reminder of him on the day. (Oscar is our 1 year old son).

The Venue

The Arches – Halifax. We wanted an industrial style venue that was typical of Yorkshire architecture. We looked at a couple in Leeds but nothing jumped out to us as much as the Arches in Halifax. We also loved the fact that we could get married there too so we didn’t have any travel for our guests between ceremony and reception venue.

The Flowers

We did all of the flowers for the venue ourselves which helped keep costs down. We went for lots of greenery and white flowers (wax flower, spray roses, broom, gypsophila, thistles etc). We went to the Yorkshire Produce Centre early doors to get them which was a great experience. I really enjoyed doing them.

Our bouquets were made by Tabby at Mode for Events. Tabby also provided the greenery for the tables.

The Details & Décor

We did our own favours – little bags of Yorkshire mix.

For the tables Tabby had provided lots of greenery to go with our flower arrangements. Eucalyptus and Ruscus mainly.

We had a VW camper van photo booth. A great addition at The Arches because the doors are so big they can drive it inside the venue.

The Cake

My mum made it. It was a lovely fruit cake. She also did a huge cake table with a huge selection of other cakes.

The Honeymoon

We went to a great hotel called Another Place in the Lake District for a few days r&r. It was lovely!
