A Simple + Fun DIY Wedding

Morning {www}ers, i have a really fun wedding to share this morning. Philippa and Monty held their wedding reception at a really lovely church hall which gave a brilliant blank canvas to their whimsy wedding decor. With bunting, balloons, cupcakes and blooms, they had everything looking oh so pretty.

I really love Philippa’s vintage frock with pretty pink petticote, she looks just divine. This wedding was kept simple, with the focus on everyone of the guests having a great time.

Thanks so much to Mustard Yellow Photography for sharing their images today….

Names…. Philippa and Monty

Wedding Date…. 30th April 2011

The Proposal…. While on holiday in Bude. I (Philippa) didn’t want a big fuss or a big spectacle and I knew he was going to ask, but it was still a real surprise. He had asked my dad beforehand, which I had mentioned but didn’t think he had had time to, and he didn’t have a ring because he wanted to make sure I got one I liked but he had bought me some silver earrings which I loved. It was perfect, no fuss, just honest and true.

The Vision for the day…. For everyone to enjoy themselves as much as us.

The Planning process…. Everything was decided together. If we were too busy to get together and discuss it I would send him 6 cars that I liked and then he could pick out the one he liked and that way he wasn’t bombarded by choices and we both got what we liked in the wedding.

Budget…. It wasn’t set and we always tried to get things as cheap as possible.

The Venue… Sutton Coldfield Baptist Church and Swinfen Hall

The Dress + Accessories….. 50’s dress in ivory silk, pink underskirt, irregular choice shoes, seamed flesh coloured stockings, bird cage vale and pearl necklace and bracelets and bracelet given by Monty on the day.

Finding the dress…. Lots and lots of research, I knew what I wanted but did look and tired on lots of dresses. Due to the trends at the time there were 2, if any shorter dresses in each shop which really didn’t work. Looked at using dress makers and ended up using a family friend. But it was perfect and I was lucky.

Groom’s attire… Grey pin-striped suite, white shirt, green tie, black shoes.

The Readings + Music…. Till Kingdom Come – Coldplay – During the service, Bruno mars – marry you – For the way out, Ephesians 3:16-19, Jeremiah 29: 11-13.

Beautiful bridesmaids….. Lots of looking for dresses. Found one in Coast, similar to mine in design. The dress suited both of them and then they decide which shoes, headbands and handbags they want between themselves, which allowed them to get what they wanted.

The Flowers… The theme was pink and green and the flowers included roses, gerberas and eucalyptus.

The Cake… We had 200 cup cakes in pink and white butter icing made by my brother who is a baker and they sat on a clear plastic tiered cake stand

The Details + Decor…. Bunting in the church hall, made by my mum, little silver buckets with flowers in at church hall to decorate the tables and two posters my brother bought which had “keep calm and eat a cupcake” and “keep calm and have a cup of tea”  on them. The evening reception had different table decorations. They were glass vases full of sweets  and balloons coming out of the top. And lots of candles all around for later in the evening. We also had lanterns in the garden outside the venue to light it up.

The Honeymoon…. One week in Paris and then one week in Edinburgh

Memorable moments… The whole day seemed to rush me by but I think the one thing I remembered was coming up the aisle and all the nerves I had had in the morning went as soon as I saw him.

Advice for other couples… Remember it’s YOUR wedding. It’s the joining of two people and two families; it needs to reflect you both, so brides ask what he wants. If he wants something more than anything in the wedding maybe you should consider it. At the same time if you both don’t want to do something like inviting aunt millie who you have never see, don’t. We didn’t have a first dance because we didn’t want to and I’m glad we didn’t. Remember whatever happens, if it rains, if the cake goes wrong, if people get drunk, you are still going to be married at the end of the day and that’s what matters.
