A DIY Colourful Eclectic + Fun Wedding in Wales

Wow wow wow wow, this wedding is right up my street. In fact, so much so i shall be bookmarking this page for future reference hehe!!

Mel and Charlie were married in Pembrokeshire in October 2010 and what a stunning day it was. Mel made all the details herself, including the button bouquets and table plan, just beautiful. I adore those spotty bridesmaid dresses and the fact everyone was asked to wear gloves… to cute! If you don’t draw wedding inspiration from this couple, i don’t know what will hehe!!

Huge thanks to the incredible wedding photographer Julia from Modernphotographic for letting me share her work today, here is what she had to say about the day;

“Mel & Charlie’s wedding is nothing short of Wedding DIY wonderfulness. LOTS of gorgeous details, made even better by the fact the bride made them all herself! She isn’t really a WEDDING magazine devotee and tends to avoid the the net, so whilst she was inspired by felt bouquets someone showed her she then created the whole bright colour bursting wedding from herself.

Mel is an art teacher so I guess it comes naturally and to be honest the whole wedding reflected them both so well. Their home is full of colour and craft too! Mel asked all the ladies to wear gloves. The vintage outfits were amazing, not surprising as one of the brides oldest friends is Laura founder of vintage and bridal store Fur Coat, No Knickers!!!

The bride made all the favours bright and colourful with individually stitched names and driftwood boats to go with the seaside west wales location! She also made all the table cloths which were brightly coloured and directed guests to which table they were on! The easel table plan had a small strip of the table cloth fabric. So once you found out what table you were on, all you had to do was look across the marquee for the table cloth style! On all the tables to go with her button bouquets she had bright coloured balls of felt with chunky white buttons, and the multi coloured cupcakes had cute polka dot wrappers and flags.”

The Proposal…

Well…….It was on our favourite beach in West Wales Cym-yr-Egwlys just before Christmas on diving board rock. Charles had a mini bottle of bubbly and two plastic glasses in his pockets .He asked me when we were sitting on the rocks I said YES of course. We cracked open the bubbly had a glass then a hail storm came down on us and we had to flee the beach !

The Vision for the day….

Colour and for everyone to have the most fun ever.

Beautiful bridesmaids…..

My Sister Charlotte and Charles daughter Ffion they wore 50’s style dresses from “Hobos” in Cardiff.

The Ceremony Readings + Music….

The Reading were “ This day I married my best friend” and “Corinthians 13 4-7. We had two very close friend sing in the church accompanied by another good friend on the piano.

The Planning Process….

We both planned the wedding, Charles did all the booking and I made everything ( what a good pair)

The Dress + Accessories…..

The dress was an Essence design (The first one I tried on and did not try another one on !) and I made my head band from the spare sequins from my dress. The gloves were my Grandmas. A pair of Pink hunter wellies to walk to the church. I wore shoes I had worm to be a brides maid for my sister (recycling) no one ever sees your shoes which is why I splashed out on a pair of hunters which I have worn loads!

Memorable moments…

Drinking champagne over looking the sea in warm winter weather, and all friends singing “ you got a friend “ during the speeches.

Advice for other couples…

Look at the clock and every hour, stop take a look around and take a memory snap in your head, the day goes so quickly !

The Flowers…
I made all the flowers myself from felt and buttons.

The Venue…

St Marys Church Newport ,Pembrokshire , then to the boat club on the beach for champagne and canapés, then to the marquee in Charles’ cousins boat field over looking the Nevern Estuary.

The Details + Decor….

I designed and made all the marquee decoration my self and Theme- colours.

The Cake…

The cake was made by Charles cousins wife’s, brothers wife ! It was all bright cupcakes.

The Honeymoon….

St Kitts

Thanks so much to Mel and Charlie for sharing their day with {www}.
