It’s no easy process, planning a wedding on a field on a family farm. There is so much to consider, from toilets to generators and water. All the basic amenities you need to budget both time and money to when working out all of the logistics. The pay off though is a unique, personal venue with views and countryside second to none. I am pretty confident that this lovely pair thought all the planning and hand made décor and details were worth all of their effort mind due. You’ll see why when you clap eyes on the magical tipi reception, quirky decorations and the super gorgeous images provided by Natalie D Photography (thanks Natalie).
WWW readers Martyn and Rebecca were hitched on the 19th August 2017 and were blessed with beautiful sunshine, which meant their outdoor venue really worked superbly. The outdoor swing was perfect for portraits, as was the photo booth. This pretty affair combines stunning flowers for a timeless feel with more modern choices such as the quirky lighting, you know what though, it worked so well. Rebecca wore a divine illusion back lace gown and flower crown combo, while Martyn and the boys wore brown tweed and bow ties. I’m loving their style so much.
I’ll leave you to devour all of these wonderful shots and their lovely report below. Enjoy.
THE PROPOSAL | On 12.06.16 Becky’s 26th birthday Martyn decorated the garden with twinkle lights and candles and surprised me with dinner in the garden and proposed with an amazing sparkly ring, chocolates and beautiful red roses.
THE VISION | We really wanted to create a unique and personal wedding. We had so many ideas and tried to make them all happen.
We were so lucky we were able to use the field at my family home and knew we definitely wanted to have the tipis, they just look so beautiful during the day and at night time and are so unique, all our guests loved them and they suited the theme so well. I love all things vintage and rustic and having the reception at the farm meant we were really able to achieve the country wedding theme.
The main aim was for everyone just to have a great time with us. We thought it will be the biggest party we will ever throw for all our friends and family and were so glad we were able to achieve such an amazing and memorable day for everyone.
THE PLANNING PROCESS | We spent a long time planning everything and making sure we had all that we needed so everyone could enjoy the day. There was a lot to do as the tipis were in the middle of a field we had to think of everything from toilets to food, water to a generator etc. I most enjoyed the creative side of the planning I loved making all the extra little things, we made our own order of service, invites, decorations, favours etc. We didn’t want our day to be to formal but for everyone to feel relaxed and enjoy sharing our day with us.
THE VENUE | We chose to get married in St Marys Lenham Village Church as we have lived in the village for the past two years and have become a part of the community we love living here. We chose to have the reception under beautiful tipis in a field at Britcher Farm Egerton as this is Becky’s family home where I grew up and have many happy memories.
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | I absolutely loved my beautiful lace ivory dress from Stella York with buttons running up the back and lace sleeves, I also had a bespoke veil made to match and wore a pearl belt which matched my jewellery.
I also wore a beautiful fresh flower hair crown which matched my bouquet. My bridal perfume was from Jo Malone which smelt lovely all day.
FINDING THE DRESS | I went shopping with my mum and found an amazing Stella York dress on the first day of looking I loved it because it had beautiful lace sleeves. I continued to look and tried on around 8 dresses but none of them matched up to the beautiful Stella York dress.
GROOM’S ATTIRE | Martyn searched for a long time for a country tweed looking suit and eventually found one in Slaters Canterbury suit shop it was brown and green, and the groomsmen all wore brown suits from Next. Martyn and his best men wore a maroon bow tie and the other groomsmen wore maroon ties.
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | The beautiful bridesmaids were my best friends Hannah and Natalie. They did such a brilliant job of arranging an amazing hen do in London and were so helpful with the planning and shopping in the run up to the wedding and were amazing on the day helping me to get ready and helping to settle my nerves. They both looked absolutely beautiful and couldn’t of done it without them.
THE READINGS & MUSIC | I walked down the aisle to the wedding march played on the harp, Ave Maria and Fields of Gold were also played on the harp during the ceremony. The hymns on the organ were How Great Thou Art and Give Me Joy in My Heart. A reading from the bible was read by my brother and a poem was read by Martyn’s Nan.
At the reception soft soul music was played in the background before the disco started and the DJ kept everyone dancing the night away.
THE FLOWERS | The bride, bridesmaids and flower girl had beautiful fresh flower bouquet, which included succulents, beautiful roses called memory lane, daisies, and gypsophila, lavender and greenery and the bride had a flower crown to match. The button holes were all the same with roses and the mothers had special flowers in their hair and a broach, these were all from The Flower Barn. At the reception we decorated the tipis with home grown dried flowers to go with the theme. At the church we had beautifully arranged white chrysants with ivy and gypsophila at the end of the pews in candle holders and arranged on milk churns.
THE CAKE | We had an amazing wedding cake in an ombre style colour going from a dark sage green to light. It had a vintage tea cup on the top and was decorated with fresh flowers and even had a tiny icing dog the same as our beloved pet cocker spaniel. The wedding cake was really special as it was made by my Aunt Carrie, Carrie’s Creations
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Our photographer was Natalie D Photography. Natalie is so lovely and helpful and fitted in so well it didn’t feel like she was the photographer but more like a guest. Natalie managed to capture the whole day in a really natural way and the photos all look amazing. The photos arrived back so quickly in less than three weeks and we loved looking at them and showing all our friends it felt as though we were reliving the day. Natalie is so lovely and friendly and her service is amazing we couldn’t recommend her more.
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | We really wanted to create a unique wedding so most of the things we had at the reception were home made. I made lots of paper tipis as favours for everyone they had home made heart shaped shortbread inside, I grew succulents in cute vintage tea cups, which decorated the tables with decorated jam jars full of home-grown dried flowers. We had a sweet cart built by a friend and full of home made sweets, and vintage cake stands with home made cakes. The bunting and table runners were hand made and the chalk signs were hand written by a friend. Martyn built a swing and photo booth frame, which were hung in a beautiful oak tree, which lit up at night. We made all our own wedding invitations and we made the order of service to match and the table plan and place names were all matching and also home made.
THE HONEYMOON | We went to Lake Garda for our honeymoon the day after the wedding and stayed in Riva de Garda, which was so beautiful and very relaxing.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The most memorable moment was when my brother Jon did a surprise speech it was so lovely and unexpected, and it was just so special to have all the people we love in the same room sharing our big day.
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Advice I’d give to couples planning is don’t worry about the small things because on the day they don’t notice and just enjoy every minute because it goes so quickly.
