Ashley is here with her first blog of 2017 today. She has been super busy, not only finding her dress and accessories, but booking in her hairdresser too. Now that’s productive! I also love Ashley’s decision to book a videographer for their day, a really brilliant choice you won’t regret Ashley xo Lou
Hello, and happy new year WWW readers! I’ve had a super busy few months recently, we have bought our first house, renovated it and moved all in time for Christmas. All the while our wedding planning has been quietly ticking along in the background. I’m really excited for 2017, and all of the amazing things it will bring. Also, I am incredibly excited to be able to say “I’m getting married this year!!”.
The most exciting news I have to share with you all is that I went on my first, and only dress shopping trip! I went with my mum and two of my lovely bridesmaids. We booked an appointment with Kate Walker at Kate Walker Bridal in Honiton a couple of months in advance as her Saturday appointments book up fast. I had the most amazing time, Kate was so lovely and sweet and really really knows her stuff! Her little shop carries not only her own range of dresses but also a selected few other designers, and Kate expertly guided me through all of the different styles. I eventually settled on the very first dress I tried on (after trying on one dress of every style!), and I am so in love with it I wish I could wear it every day! I won’t share any more details about the dress as obviously it’s all top secret at the moment, but it is positively dreamy!
My one piece of advice on dress shopping is to not expect it to be like you see on television. I didn’t cry, my mum didn’t cry, my maids didn’t cry! Everyone is different and reacts in different ways, it doesn’t mean the dress is any less perfect! I also bought something that I never thought I would have, it’s so different to what I thought would suit me – keeping an open mind is key!
A couple of weeks after buying my dress I went back to see Kate Walker for her accessories event. Although I did already have my shoes, I came away having ordered a veil which is just perfect for the dress, as well as a hair vine. Purchasing those two items spurred me on a little bit to get my hairdresser booked in. I have booked the girls from my local salon that do my hair regularly to come down to the venue. They are such sweet girls and I know they’ll do a fab job. It also makes my life so much easier when it comes to having my trail as I can just pop down the road!
We have also been discussing for a while whether or not to book a videographer. I absolutely loved the idea of having one, however budget considerations were making us hold off on booking one. After much discussion and hearing other couples who were already married say how glad they were to have had one, we decided to take the plunge and book one. I fell in love with the work of McGill Sister Films when we saw them at the first wedding fair we ever went to last February, so after checking out a few other videographers just to be sure, we booked them! I am so excited to have a film to look back on after the wedding. In all of the excitement of the day I know that I won’t get to see every moment, every facial expression, every minute. I hope a video will help me see some of the bits I miss on the day.
Our next couple of things to think about in the coming weeks and months are William’s shoes and suit, as well as our invites! We now have 9 months to go and things are definitely starting to feel a bit more real- eek!
