I really adore this simple, relaxed and fun country affair today, let me tell you why.
Nicola and Patrick decided to get married on the 5th September 2015 at Little Quarme Cottages in Somerset. The focus was on ensuring their guests enjoyed themselves and they hosted a contest to win dessert, genius.
There was a heap of style on the attire front, Nicola chose an elegant number by Charlie Brear accessorised with a BHLDN sash, while Patrick plumped for a Ted Baker suit. The bridesmaids chose their own blush and nude tone frocks which looked super gorgeous together.
Thanks so very much to Benni Carol Photography for sharing these wonderful images with us.
THE PROPOSAL | It all happened when we decided to have a romantic weekend away at our favourite hotel in London. It was such a private and personal moment that I will treasure forever.
THE VISION | I wanted our wedding to be relaxed and fun. Of course it ended up being very emotional too, but we organised the day in order to have some fun moments to share with our friends and families. The guests sitting at the same table were part of a team and we played a game to decide who would have eaten what! Basically we asked 12 of our guests to make a dessert each. These were then going to be the prizes for our 12 tables/teams. Of course everyone was really on it, who wouldn’t want to be the first to pick up their favourite cake?
THE PLANNING PROCESS | We had 8 months to plan and so we had to make decisive decisions. The whole planning process was a nice trial of our future life together, we both worked as a team and made decisions together. I know that planning a wedding can be a very stressful experience, but we decided to opt for a not-too-picky approach which actually made everything much easier!
BUDGET | We didn’t really have a budget but we didn’t have an unlimited budget either. We just wanted to have a happy day to remember and we definitely managed to have it!
THE VENUE | The wedding took place in a small private estate dating from the Domesday Book, the Little Quarme Cottages in Exmoor National Park. The current cottages and converted barns date from 1708, they were completely renovated in 1989 and they have been constantly redecorated and upgraded to the highest standards. We fell in love with the location when we spent a nice holiday there a few months before our wedding, and it didn’t take long before we decided to have it organised there. Apart from being beautiful, it is also so handy for your guests. Everything, from accommodation to ceremony and reception venue is all in one place.
THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | The dress was a Charlie Brear dress enhanced with a BHLDN sash. While the shoes were LK Bennet shoes.
FINDING THE DRESS | Finding the right dress for me had been rather easy. I managed to go to a sample sale at Charlie Bear and the first dress I tried on was just the perfect one for me. Simple but at the same time so refined, there was no need to try another one on, this was just love at first sight!
GROOM’S ATTIRE | Patrick was wearing a blue Ted Baker suit matched with a polka dot tie which was the same as the ones the ushers were wearing.
THE READINGS & MUSIC | The first reading was actually taken from a song by John Cooper Clarke, “I wanna be yours” while the second one was a beautiful poem by E.E. Cummings, “Love is more thicker than forget”. We just thought they described perfectly our story. The music was played by a great DJ that was recommended to us by our good friend.
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had 8 bridesmaids, 4 were my sisters and 4 my best mates. I gave them a budget of £50 and a colour, antique rose. I shared with them few ideas on how I wanted them to look like, but then I left it up to them. Of course, they chose exactly what I had in mind!
THE FLOWERS | The flowers were made by Judith Collins, a family friend. She did a wonderful job.
THE CAKE | We asked 12 of our guests to make the cakes. I have to say that they really did an amazing job, each of them was different, from chocolate to strawberries, from apples to meringues.. For this reason, we decided to organise a game where the different teams could choose which dessert to go for. The rules were simple: the first place would have had the first choice, the second place the second choice and so on.. We wanted to make it as fair as possible, while at the same time having lots of fun! We also had a cupcakes cake with the same theme colours of the wedding.
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Our photographers were Benni and Carol, from Benni Carol Photography. We found them on the internet and their style of photography was just perfect for our wedding! On the day, they were such great photographers, we couldn’t fault them, worked tirelessly and in an non invasive way and they made us feel relaxed throughout. We really could not wait to see all the pictures!
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | They were relaxed and laid back. Our friends and family donated items they had used at their weddings, while we borrowed the bunting from our auntie. The catering company was just amazing, they were from Cornwall and they also did the beautiful marquee and supplied all the tables.
THE HONEYMOON | The honeymoon was just the perfect holiday in the Mauritius, 10 days of pure relax and great time!
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | It is really hard to pick a specific moment from the wedding. We really loved every minute of it. The ceremony was so emotional, as well as the speeches and we had so much fun throughout all the day and evening. Of course seeing my dad entering the dance floor with a pair of super bright (and random) white and blue crocodile boots was just priceless!!
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Our personal advice is definitely to make decisive decisions – don’t look around too much, it becomes overwhelming and difficult to make a choice, just follow your instinct and style and be true to yourself!
