Sometimes with wedding planning you can stumble upon the perfect compromise. I love the idea of an intimate wedding in a romantic destination followed by a big party back home. Which is exactly what Lianne and Ollie chose to do, tying the knot in Sardinia at the beginning of April last year, followed by a UK reception party a couple of weeks later.
The setting was divine, as was the attire. With the most romantic tulle skirt ever, the prettiest bridesmaid, a first look and dashes of purple throughout.
Thanks so very much to the amazing Casey Avenue Photography for sharing these images today and be sure to check out the brilliant fusion film below.
THE PROPOSAL | We went ring shopping in Birmingham as he didn’t want to choose my ring but he wanted to decide when to give it to me. I tried to find it all through the house then gave up and asked him for it in bed the next day!!
THE VISION | Really relaxed, non-traditional and a good party. No Stress!
THE PLANNING PROCESS | Everyone I knew had gotten married all around the locations near us. We wanted somewhere hot too as I feel the cold. We looked at Italy as a region because I work in the Italian food industry, we knew it was a chilled place. We found Sardinia and loved it, the weather was perfect, not too hot but warm enough to be comfortable. I googled weddings in Sardinia, and found Vittoria “Wedding Sardinia”.
BUDGET | £9,000
THE VENUE | Pula Town Hall (Sardinia) & The Bell @ Alderminster (UK).
THE DRESS |Dress was from a sample sale £2.5k reduced to £600.
FINDING THE DRESS | I’d seen my dress in a magazine and I knew it was mine and ordered into a shop to try on then found it on a sample website in February 2013. A year later I saw the over skirt to have the best of both worlds, my main dress was my style (fitted) but I did still want a pooffy dress after trying them on in shops. I’d been on pinterest and seen people on the beach in a jumper and tulle skirt and loved it.
GROOM’S ATTIRE |Norton & Towsends, tailor from Warwick.
BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Angel Face Skirt & top.
THE FLOWERS |Handmade.
THE CAKE | Handmade by Mum and I.
YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER |I Found Hannah on a wedding blog, we were initially looking for a photographer just for the UK party but after chatting to Hannah on the phone (through terrible phone signal!!) we asked her to quote for Sardinia too. I was probably a pain in the ass and kept adding things on and then came up with the idea of a surprise present at our engagement shoot of a classic Mini from me to Ollie, Hannah captured the moment that I gave the keys to the Mini to Ollie during our pre-wedding shoot. We had the mini at our UK Party too for some extra photos.
We were all really chilled out in Sardinia and Hannah helped make sure I was ready on time. We had a “first look” of which I wore a huge tulle over skirt over my wedding dress as everyone was expecting me to have two dresses. I pestered Hannah again asking her to edit a film if my brother recorded it. She came back to me saying that she can do a Fusion with our wedding photos but only if she recorded it herself, that it was something she’d been thinking of doing for a while and with us having such a small intimate wedding it a great starting point! We were her first fusion, I love it and I’ve been watching everyone she’s done since!!
THE DETAILS & DÉCOR |We had a message tree and a finger painting tree as a guest book at the UK reception. We actually picked the venue because it matched our wedding colours!! There was purple and greys throughout. We had HUNDREDS of sparklers too because it was an evening reception.
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The beach part was really nice – before the ceremony Hannah took some photos on the beach of just Ollie and I, there was nobody else there. Stealing someone’s church for the confetti shot as we didn’t like the outside of the town hall! Ollie paid some kids to move away from the church so that we could do some photos in front of it. Sitting in Pula town square eating Italian ice cream and drinking fizz.
ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES |Stick to what you want as opposed to what other people tell you, you should have. Make sure that you have somebody that matches your personality for a photographer, someone that understands you and your vision.
