Rustic Red Spring Barn Wedding

I really love how cosy this Spring wedding feels, it’s red colour palette and woodsy aesthetics really works so well with the barn setting too. Then come evening the festoon lights transformed the grounds into an outdoor wonderland, just perfect for romantic images with WWW fave and Supplier Love member Jenny Macare.

Joe and Ellie were hitched on the 1st May 2017 at Shustoke Farm Barns in Warwickshire. A relaxed, fun vibe was order of the day and that’s exactly what they achieved. Adults and children were all catered for with brilliant food, drink and live music from Alive Network’s The Sparks. Decoration was kept simple, with wooden signage, multicolour blooms and a semi naked cake.

The bridesmaids dresses in a rich red hue looked perfect against Ellie’s elegant Sassi Holford gown. While Joe and the boys were suited and booted in blue suits and grey check waistcoats. All in all a really beautiful celebration that I think will really give you so many wedding ideas.

THE PROPOSAL | We went away to a log cabin for my birthday in March 2016 with some friends. Over the weekend we went on bike rides, we did Go Ape, archery and then a night time walk to see deer. Unfortunately, the deer had been unsettled that day so we didn’t manage to see any but the guide advised us to come back the following morning at sunrise for another chance to see them. Joe woke me up really early the following morning to go for this walk. Knowing that Joe would have loved the opportunity to see these deer I didn’t question it, despite the late night drinking prosecco in the hot tub! We went for our walk and were lucky enough to see deer along with a beautiful sunrise. It was at that moment Joe got down on one knee and popped the question.

THE VISION | We both wanted the theme of our wedding to be rustic with a relaxed vibe so everyone would also be relaxed, have fun. We wanted the day to cater for all; adults and children, with great music, food and drink.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We had 14 months to plan our wedding, which was exactly the right amount of time. We got the biggies booked first, so the venue, registrar, our suppliers and the dress, of course. The bridesmaids, mom and me had a planning meeting, which mostly entailed drinking too much prosecco and planning ideas for the hen, but it was great fun to get the girls together to talk ideas and themes. The remainder of the planning was a bit more adhoc and towards the end we had friends and family helping to make wedding signs, place names and decorations galore! It was great fun to get everyone involved.

BUDGET | We were conscious of getting the right balance with our budget but towards the end we were so excited about making it a day to remember that we ended up spending more than we had planned. That said, it was an amazing day and I wouldn’t have changed a thing!

THE VENUE | Finding our venue was one of the easiest things for us. We knew that we wanted a barn that was relatively close to home that also met our theme. We were lucky that the first venue we went to see did just that! The only thing we were concerned about was not having accommodation at the venue but there was gorgeous accommodation that we stayed in just two miles away from the venue.

We loved the quality of the venue, the owners had done an amazing job. The main room was lit with fairy lights and candles and it was just stunning, it certainly didn’t feel like a typical barn. The garden area had a number of olive trees and seating area for guests to mingle and fire pits for the evening when it got cold. We also bought marshmallows for toasting in the evening. We also loved the bar area, balcony and the glass wall to the rotisserie where guests would be able to see, and smell, their food cooking.

It met all of our expectations and more.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | I tried on all styles of dresses and the one I went for was different to what I had in mind. The dress was the ‘wild card’ choice of the incredibly talented mother and daughter owners, Denise and Becky at Silk Brides near Lichfield. It was a gorgeous A line Sassi Holford dress with a sweetheart neckline. I had a Pronovias diamond belt and a gorgeous veil with Swarovski crystals.

I also had Swarvoski pearl and diamond necklace and bracelet to match with my headpiece.

I wore Ted Baker heels, they were perfect but most definitely not comfortable! By the end of the night I had changed into my converse.

FINDING THE DRESS | Finding the dress was really easy for me. My mom and one of my bridesmaids came with me to Silk Brides. It was the first shop I went to and Denise and Becky were exceptional. It was such a lovely experience and they had a fantastic range of dresses with all styles and catered for all budgets. I tried all styles on but the one I ended up with was not what I had in mind when I first started looking. I knew I wanted something that I felt like a real bride wearing and I also did want anything that was too fussy, I wanted to be wearing the dress – not the dress wearing me! As soon as I tried it on I fell in love with it and it was an easy decision.

GROOM’S ATTIRE | Joe hired his and the groomsmens outfits from Peter Posh. They wore a blue suit with a chequered waistcoat with ties to match the bridemaids dresses. Joe also wore brown Ted Baker brogues with an Armani watch with a brown strap and metal grey face.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We had three readings on the day: A Lovely Love Story by Edward Monkton that was read by my brother, Alex. The meaning of marriage read by Joe’s dad, Andy and finally, Dr Zeuss, Oh the places you will go read by our good friend, Sophie.

The entrance music was ‘You’re my best friend’ by Stevie Ann and the recession song was ‘Adventure of a Lifetime’ by Coldplay.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | The bridesmaids all wore a raspberry coloured dress from Wed2B. They were a fab colour, great quality and really reasonable. We were tight on time ordering these dresses and they arrived within 5 days! They also wore a floral court heel from Dune to match their dresses an infinity pearl bracelet from Notonthehighstreet.

THE FLOWERS | Carrie Lucas Flowers was our florist. Carrie was amazing, I gave her an idea of the theme of our wedding and also that I wanted a bouquet that looked like it was picked from a meadow with wild flowers that were all different colours. How she took this vague brief and turned this around I will never know, but she did a fantastic job. Carrie also did gypsophila bouquets for the bridesmaids and a stunning floral border across the balcony in the venue. We had smaller bunches of flowers for the tables mixed with the gypsophila.

THE CAKE | Joe’s cousin, Beth, did our cake. We wanted a naked wedding cake decorated with real flowers. We also had three different flavours, lemon, coffee and Victoria sponge. Beth did a fantastic job as she had to decorate it at the venue in the morning due to us having real flowers. After she did the cake she came and did my makeup and then had to get herself ready as she was a day guest!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | We didn’t know what style of photographer we wanted until we met Jenny Macare. We didn’t get this sorted until later in our wedding planning. My mom and I had been to a wedding fayre and the Motorcycle Museum near to Solihul and saw Jenny Macare at her stand with her sister. Jenny’s stand caught our eye because her work was creative but Jenny was really modest and non-imposing, unlike some of the stalls we had visited. Instantly we jelled with Jenny, and as me and mom were chatting with her we both came away from the fayre with Jenny in our minds and I couldn’t wait for Joe to meet her.

We organised a coffee with Jenny, Joe and myself a few weeks later and Joe warmed to her straight away too. Not only is she great at what she does, she is passionate and also so friendly. Jenny has a real skill at making you feel at ease and this was demonstrated at our pre wedding shoot at our local park. We were delighted with the photos and this made us even more excited for her to be a part of our day.

On our wedding day we had so many guests comment on how impressed they were professionalism and friendly nature throughout the day. Jenny stayed later than she needed to in order to capture a particular photo Joe wanted with his groomsmen that he had seen on Pinterest.

When we got our wedding photos we were so made up. Jenny presented them is a lovely box with the highlights printed out and a USB be a video of these highlights. All of the photos (including the highlights) were also on the USB. We also had a link to an online webpage to save any photos we wanted to share on social media. With this she also had written us a lovely card, which was a really special touch.

We would highly recommend her to any couple looking to get married.

We also had a videographer on the day, Keiran Fuller, from Fuller Productions. Keiran was, again, fantastic at capturing the key highlights of our day. It was great to be able to relive key moments of our day and see the emotions of our guests and to see the fun everyone had. We loved the trailer video and watching the speeches back had us all laughing again.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | We were really lucky with the venue that it had so much character it didn’t need much decorating. We bought and made a lot of our own decorations. We also used a lot of ornaments and finishing touches from my mom and these went perfectly in the entrance to our venue.

For our favours we made a donation to Cancer Research and also we bought our guests a little packet of Forget Me Not seeds.

THE HONEYMOON | We wanted to go on an adventure for our honeymoon and we chose to go on a two week road trip to Canada. We flew into Calgary, drove through the Rockies and then travelled down to Kelowna, Vancouver, Victoria and Whistler.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Our first dance was our most memorable moment as we had spent 6 weeks learning a routine. Joe would admit himself that doesn’t really like dancing so this was a hugely proud moment for us both.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Make sure you do everything that you both want to do. You will have all of the most important people share your special day with you, so you will not stop smiling all day, for us, that is what was most important. Things wont always go to plan and for us there were several occasions where it didn’t, but these issues have now become our memories and we laugh about them. We also have some great stories to tell too! Its important to not lose focus of what you are both doing and the reason as to why! Make sure you enjoy every single step of your journey as it goes so so quickly!!
