Rustic Home Made Farm Wedding

I sure do get that summer feeling from this wedding. It has that hazy balmy sun shine vibe, set in the glorious English countryside, complete with the most wonderful home made touches. Wow.

WWW readers Gaby and Nick tied the knot on the 11th July 2016 at Ashley Wood Farm in Wiltshire. They envisioned a rustic and simple celebration, which was hand-crafted. It always makes for a special day when everyone comes together to create a really love filled day. I adore all of the sweet touches, from illustrated animal table names to divine seasonal blooms and festoon lighting in the barn. Then there was that cake, so many layers of sponge teamed with buttercream and berries. YUM.

Gaby looked effortlessly beautiful in her custom made lace gown accessorised with a perfect ribbon adorned flower crown. Nick went for a country style mismatched look in chinos, blazer and blush tie. Then there were the bridesmaids in floral frocks, just perfect for the summer party.

Thanks so much to Blondie Photography for sharing these sensational photographs today.

THE PROPOSAL | Rome.

THE VISION | A rustic, summer wedding without too many fusses and frills.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We wanted everything to have a home made, personal feel, starting with the venue, which was completely DIY. It involved a lot of planning. We started about 11 months in advance of the wedding, but only really stepped into gear about 6 months before. We basically tried to make the planning process as much fun as possible, so that it was exciting rather than a chore.

THE VENUE | Ashley Wood Farm in Wiltshire. It’s a beautiful old barn, with pastel blue doors and beautiful gardens overlooking a lake. It was love at first sight.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Dress – Sesay Bridal – bespoke made.

Shoes – Raffia wedges from LK Bennett.

Necklace – Ginette:ny (The first gift my husband ever gave me).

Bracelet – A gorgeous gift from my bridesmaids.

FINDING THE DRESS | I found this process pretty daunting to start with – there’s just so much choice. After doing the rounds at a number of High St bridal shops I was getting quite deflated because nothing was quite what I was looking for. A fashion designer friend suggested I speak to Christina at Sesay Bridal in Belsize Park. She is a total pro. All of her dresses are completely bespoke and it’s such an enjoyable, collaborative process. Her dresses are beautifully designed and she has an incredible eye for detail. She has a collection of samples to try on and then we worked from pictures and sketches until my perfect dress took shape. We decided to make the dress up as two separate pieces, so the lace came off for the evening and underneath was a simple yet beautiful crepe silk dress.

GROOM’S ATTIRE | Jacket – Rubinacci.

Trousers – Incotex.

Shoes – Crockett and Jones.

Tie – Hermes.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Walking up the aisle – Butterfly Waltz by Brian Crain.

Walking down the aisle – Waiting for a Star to Fall by Boy Meets Girl.

Pooh and Me – A.A. Milne.

On Love – Percy Shelley.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I wanted something a little unusual and in the end we found the perfect dresses from Zara, complemented by necklaces from Joulberry.

THE FLOWERS | Eucalyptus, roses, mint, lavender, thistles (for my Scottish roots).

We were lucky to find the most amazing florist: Hanna who runs Flowers by Tidbury, near Sherborne. We wanted something simple, delicate and pretty and she just totally got the look and completely over-delivered. She made a beautiful flower crown for me with long flowing ribbons and I absolutely loved my bouquet. It smelt divine, full of amazing fresh flowers along with my favourite herbs.

THE CAKE | A three-tiered naked cake – by Annie Bird at Bird & Carter. It looked and tasted divine.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Tim at Blondie Photography was a star from start to finish. He was so easy to work with, unobtrusive, undemanding and totally captured the spirit of the day.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Photos hung on string around the dairy barn.

Foraged flowers from the meadows around Ashley Wood for the bar.

Hand written name tags for the table.

Polaroid, props and hay bales for a DIY photo booth.

Dried herbs from the garden at home.

Watercolour animal table places – Susan Windsor.

THE HONEYMOON | TBC … somewhere hot.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The ceremony itself: the moment we were officially married and walking up the aisle.

Walking into the barn for dinner to rapturous applause!

Cutting the cake.

Speeches.

The first dance.

The party in the evening.

Actually, all of it!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Try to enjoy the planning process and get excited by it!

Don’t be bashful asking family and friends for help: we found that everyone wanted to help as much as possible. Delegate small tasks to others and you will get loads done quickly.

Remember that this is supposed to be the best day of your lives, and the biggest party you’re ever going to throw. Make sure you share it with the people you want to.

Most importantly have fun!
